12:02 AM
hi all
@BrunoPereira I don't think I got to tell you congrats yesterday

@RolandTaylor no you did not :(
it was --> <-- this close between you and me :/

oh sorry about that lol
I wasn't on chat much (I haven't been this week)
yep
Congratulations btw :D

thx man

Hey @RolandTaylor
Sorry
I did vote for you though
So it's not my fault.

lol why is everyone telling me sorry? :D
maybe there is a lesson in it somewhere or something :)
...and before anyone asks...
I am rarely on chat only because I've taken up Blender-ing again
and not because I'm dejected or something lol

12:07 AM
@RolandTaylor the problem is there was just too many good candidates. It came down to a choice of 'who to vote in this year, who to vote for next'.

having 24K rep means you already have many privileges which give you pseudo moderator abilities. :P think of you're self like the mighty Hercules, standing at the bottom of mount Olympus looking up at Oli and saying "It's ok! I got things down here!"

He starts blendering when he's sad.

Yes, I do, but I was sad for other reasons from earlier in the week :)
Then I got excited
Now I'm fanatical

0.0
fanatical!
See ya in 4 hours

12:20 AM
haha

12:36 AM
@William this is proving harder than expected... the api does not bode well

hello
@William you owe me 50 rep, because the bounty i put on your question about the BIOS and what not, you never followed up on. so nobody got the rep because they didnt get a successful solution.

Sounds like more trouble with StackApplet and MSVCR.

@GeorgeEdison actually its a confirmed bug is all

Thanks for confirming it.

I did additional testing (with permission from Penn State, and 20 salvage-grade computers with XP on it provided by Penn State, since they're going to be reimaged anyways), and found the bug is extraordinarily rare but it does occur.

12:48 AM
Was there any unusual configuration on the machine that had the problem?

nope, they were all identically configured machines
(basically a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a skeleton config)
but no conf differences.
seems to be an extremely random bug is all.

@ThomasWard Strange...

sorry about that, i needed a screenie of that so i can put that as my system wallpaper :P

@GeorgeEdison will your php api allow me to return a list of tags with no wiki entry

Yup.
You can do nearly anything with my PHP library :P
@rlemon I'll give you an example:

12:58 AM
lol, will i have to painfully loop through each page and check each wiki entry to see if there is a result or do you have some magic filters.

So you just want a list of tags?
(Like the tag name, etc.?)

list of tags with no wiki entry
name and landing page preferably.

Sure... I'll give you an example:
$response = API::Site('stackoverflow')->Tags()->Exec();
while($tag = $response->Fetch(FALSE))
    echo "{$tag['name']}\n";
That prints a list of the first 30 tags (just their name) on Stack Overflow.
Replace the FALSE with TRUE to print all the tags.
@rlemon Does that work for you?

What kind of app are you building?
Also, this may be helpful: stackphp.quickmediasolutions.com/doc

1:11 AM
@William wants a list of all tags with no wiki entry for cleanup

Wait a minute...
You wanted tags that do not have a wiki entry?

yup

I'm not sure you can do that... (directly).

lol

I thought you meant that you wanted to fetch the tag name but not the tag's wiki.
You can still implement your app using my library, but it will be a little more work.
You'll need to fetch the tags' names and then check 20 at a time to see if they have a wiki.

1:14 AM
@GeorgeEdison
I need your brain again for a second

Here.

jono is working on this
it's basically achievements but for all of ubuntu
and I was just thinking.
if there was a way to just add all my askubuntu accomplishments and mirror them in this thing

I have to go for about 20 min. - be back in a sec.

so that when I get badges on AU it adds a corresponding accomplishment here
cool, ttyl

1:59 AM
Cool, the accomplishment system really seems nice!

jrg
Yeah, it looks slick.
i'm surprised we haven't had a "How do I install the accomplisment system?" question yet...

well, it's relatively easy to install
btw, how do I join the Beta?
what's the difference between the meta site and the normal one?

2:33 AM
Gtk-Warnings In Terminal http://askubuntu.com/questions/104590/gtk-warnings-in-terminal #terminal

2:52 AM
Meta site is for ideas you have and feedback about the main site.
@GeorgeEdison Yep, I want a "No Wiki Entry" sort to tags for cleanup.
@rlemon You there?

yop

@rlemon So - your'e gonna work on making a site for cleaning up tag wikis?

yea. i gave up on it tonight. but i will :P
now i'm working on this

@rlemon Could you make an answer saying you will so I have someone to award said bounty to?

Heading out now. See you all later.

2:59 AM
@GeorgeEdison See ya!

give it to the other guy. he agrees with you
:P

Still, e hasnt done anything.
@rlemon You are more deserving of the bounty.
Besides, 50 rep is a drop in the bucket for him.

yea but rep isn't so much important to me.

I knows.

community respect :P that's where it's at.

3:01 AM
Still, you deserve it more. I want to give it to you for actually trying.
@rlemon I've never had to argue with someone to give them reputation before.

3:31 AM
A whole 99 cents off!

Can you answer this? How to migrate gedit settings? http://askubuntu.com/questions/104390/how-to-migrate-gedit-settings #gedit

5:57 AM
@jorgeCastro Thanks! :D
@brunoPereira did it go on g+? I now wish I had some freinds on g+ that were actually using it... :D

6:17 AM
Edit approval services please?

@William where?

Changed the answer entirely, didnt know what the OP was asking for.

@William no edits to be approved..

What does the answer look like?

Press F10 right after turning the laptop on to enter BIOS settings.

6:26 AM
OK.
It did get approved then.

-.-

gnight @all

@William morning

Q: One Speaker Refuses To Work

ZachSo, with three different sets of speakers, two different sound cards, and even two different distributions of Ubuntu (10.04 and 11.10), my left speaker is the only one that will work. I've spent quite a while looking into this and I just can't seem to find anyone who knows how to fix it. I really...

my first thought is "your cable isn't pushed in all the way"

7:40 AM
Can someone enlighten me?
What does he mean?

A: How do I deal with "unauthenticated sources" errors in the Software Center?

WHOWho is the FUKING BLITHERING RETARD that came up with this authentication crap AND DIDN'T INCLUDE ANYTHING IN THE MENU TO BE ABLE TO TURN IT OFF OR DISABLE IT? WHAT A FUKTARD!!!

But I did find this offensive post.

Flagged and left a comment.

9:36 AM
Twitter made it?

Yup.
Note the amazing navigation concept.

Looks simple and elegant.

@JorgeCastro what's the rep cap? :)

Rep cap is 200 from only upvotes.

What happens ?

9:50 AM
you stop getting rep at all even if someone upvotes your posts

Whaaat? Why? So I'm not allowed to have a good day?!
How mean :p

Q: What is the navigation concept Bootstrap uses called?

Octavian DamieanThe Bootstrap documentation site uses a very interesting navigation concept. They have a per-page navigation bar that sticks on top of the page once you scroll down and highlights the current area on the page as you go. Here is a screenshot of the navigation bar when you are at the top of the p...

20x upvotes are enough, those do not include accepted or bounties. Its nice to have a nice day in the site, its nicer if you go outside and see the sun and friends once in a while ;)

Damn it! You've ninjad me.

@OctavianDamiean thats what I said :P

9:53 AM
Yup. I know. :D

hi all

testing desktop notifications in firefox, could somebody mention me plz?

@Chipaca \o/

@Chipaca o/

Can you answer this? How do Ubuntu LibreOffice builds differ from vanilla LibreOffice builds? http://askubuntu.com/questions/104584/how-do-ubuntu-libreoffice-builds-differ-from-vanilla-libreoffice-builds #ppa

11:55 AM
grr, doesn't work
d'oh
my bad
again please?

@Chipaca ping. :)

drat
now they're enabled, and it didn't work either

bk to the drawing board then

but they work on other sites, it even adds it as "webkitNotifications", so there's something awry with how AU is doing it

jrg
Odd, I had them working until I moved to precise.

12:02 PM
in firefox?

jrg
Yes.

jrg
12:24 PM
@JorgeCastro I see you suggested themes <- theme - its currently the other way around, does that work for you?

12:40 PM
hello

g'day

jrg
Hello, slayer of mispelled ubonuts. :)

askubuntu.com/questions/104733/… , can any one check & edit my question if some thing wrong . Thankyou

do we have a simple to understand ranking of the election result?
i don't wanna download this math yadda yadda

jrg
I won't pretend to understand the meek STV, I'll let someone smarter than me make a computer do it for me. :P

12:43 PM
i just want a simple plot :D

@jrg that was me who suggested the theme.
@htorque what exactly do you want to know ?

jrg
@jokerdino ah, ok i didn't read through all 50 edits to see when it was introduced, just saw it was mostly Jorge and assumed it was him. :P

votes → rank

Do you want the meek stv console file?

a png would be nice :D

12:48 PM
You don't understand that right?

thanks
that's enough for me :)

OK then.

Oli
Meek STV isn't that hard to understand

I was prepping up thoughts to put it simpler. Never mind.. :P

@Oli but you need to do something to understand it - i'm soo lazy. ;)

Oli
12:52 PM
Oh sure, you run it through OpenSTV and you get something like that with the calculations and explanations at each level. I'm saying that output of that isn't hard to understand.
Given you understand that votes transfer.

You know what I don't understand? That 6 other people put me as first choice.

well, that's stv basics
@jokerdino bribed? :P

Nope. I have had no direct influence on the voters.

Oli
@jokerdino You do do a good job flagging.
Ha. Do do.

Yes. I do do. :)
But, to be frank, I just started flagging seriously last week or so.

12:56 PM
@rlemon user script request: a button on top the edit box that allows the inclusion of [ tag:something ] quicker.

If only I knew the review page shows you all the culpable answers, I would have gotten a much higher flag weight :D

jrg
Well you do know flag weight is gone, right?

On a really serious note, some pointers that I mentioned in my nomination post aren't really true.

@jokerdino keep those flags coming!

@jrg Yes I know. :)
@BrunoPereira Sure sir!

1:00 PM
I hate being a Linux noob... How can I run a wine bottle making sure that it will create a 32bit wine arch bottle inside a 64bit Ubuntu system?

(continuing) Things like I want to serve the site is not because I like the Ask Ubuntu community too much. But, because I want to serve the Ubuntu community itself.
well, there. You have my confession.
Now that I confessed, I am now weighing in my options for next year.
@jrg @BrunoPereira Just a pointer. It is burninate. Not burnate. :)
And hereby, I end my monologue :S

jrg
adds that to his auto-spellchecker that never worked anyway

Burninate is not a real word.

@jrg does not spell check titles :S

jrg
@BrunoPereira Exactly...

1:08 PM
waht's a spelchecker?

something you need :/ :P

some device for harry potter's magic wand?

@htorque I herd you like ubontu?

Haha, it fixes your faults..

i always thought those red underlines emphasize great word creations :D
8

1:09 PM
Something that needs you.

@htorque <3 imba

jrg
Thats what I always thought too!

In Soviet Russia, spell checker uses you.

U mean the ssu right?

oh dear, i have to call ISP support today. i've already taken some pills that hopefully will help me to stay calm.

1:15 PM
I am half way there to the marshal badge! \o/

1:37 PM
@BrunoPereira will do boss
@BrunoPereira I don't like the button.. so instead i'm going to give you a keyboard command - what do you want? Alt + T?

love it, one would be able to change it later in case it messes the browser keybinds

Give me a python guide and a python debugger and I will be a python developer. :)

5 second delay then it all restarts.

Wait, winpdb is a debugger?

1:55 PM
how do i fit this card in this case

2:12 PM

2:40 PM
@jrg either way works (themes or theme)

jrg
Ok, i'll just leave it then.

It is SE custom to use the pluralized version.
But, I think it doesn't matter.

2:52 PM
Bounty offered: How can I change the icon size on lubuntu's desktop? http://askubuntu.com/questions/103807/how-can-i-change-the-icon-size-on-lubuntus-desktop #icons

Oli
3:03 PM
@rlemon Big version of that pic doesn't work here :(
But my suggestion: Hit it with a brick.
@jokerdino Just run python from a command line. That's your interactive environment and debugger all in one.
And learnpythonthehardway.org/book is a fantastic, verbose and free book on learning Python.
Whoa and I only just noticed the comments at the bottom of each page. Zed (the rockstar who wrote that book - ages ago) still checks and replies to people asking for help. You should definitely learn Python from that.

jrg
Oh, Zed Shaw? Yeah, that guy is still answering questions etc for that.

A: Make Unity Launcher transparent

me4oslavYou want to remove the 1px white border around the launcher, right? If that's the case, I believe it's hard coded and it's not something that can be achieved without messing up with unity source code, or in your case - with unity-rotated one :)

I managed to get Georgi to answer stuff :D

3:18 PM
@jokerdino you sir, deserve the chocolate chip cookies... that I just ate.
In real life.
4 of them in all.

@Oli Well, I think I will just stick to the terminal then. Thanks! And thanks for the link to the book too!
@RolandTaylor LOL what?

jrg
@jokerdino Good work with getting Georgi to answer stuff.

Oli
Btw just as a general notice: If people are considering buying a Raspberry Pi but aren't sure they really do want one, buy one (you're limited to one at the beginning) and have a go. If you don't get on with it, talk to me and I'll happily take any RasPi Model Bs off your hands for what you paid, plus whatever it costs for delivery.
That obviously only applies to people who don't live on the other side of the planet where delivery to the UK costs more than the board.

jrg
3:43 PM
But what if I pay for the delivery because I hate it so much I want to get rid of it?
still want it?

Oli
As long as you haven't spat on it, I'll take it.
Hell if it still works, you can do whatever you like to it.

jrg
Ok, i'll seriously consider getting one then.
as opposed to "it'd be nice to have one"

Oli
These are going to end up all over the house (and garden) doing all sorts of silly things.
We're getting chickens later in the year so it'll be handy to have a computer in their hutch. Not sure what for, yet... But I'll think of something.

o.O
Sometimes, I can't believe that Oli is still in the mid 20s.
And probably not married yet..
BTW, is that your real face in that green halo of yours?

Oli
Not married but as good as (10 year relationship this year), 27. Practically a pensioner in Internet years
@jokerdino Yeah

3:50 PM
I sound like I am sucking up to you. :/ Moving on..

is there any election result ?

ty

how do I change which of my two displays is my primary display

System settings > Hardware > displays

3:57 PM
what are the results who is selected ?

I don't see an option to set it as my primary
the EMA 19" has no option either.

@rlemon Not sure then. I haven't really played around with multiple monitors.
@OneZero jrg, fossfreedom and bruno are the newly elected moderators.
And, btw, Good night all. :)

@MarcoCeppi ^

@ ty

lol, what if I switch plugs :P
thinking old school
HAHA! It worked!
cept now the 19" is 1920*1080 and my 24" is 1440*900

4:03 PM
Hello all

WOOT!
all setup
and hello @AmithKK!

@rlemon Hey :D

ok Balls!! Why do my desktop notifications appear on my secondary display

@rlemon The design

ugh... failship..
my small monitor is my primary display.

4:06 PM
@rlemon You should get bored more often

it appears that the Left side monitor ALWAYS wants to take the role of primary? is this correct?
@AmithKK lol, I saw marco's wheel of moderators and it got me thinking... I bet I could make a PokeBall in CSS

@rlemon Usually, you want it to do that

yea but my setup is [small monitor][BIG MONITOR][PC1][PC2]

@JorgeCastro yesplzthisisawesome

I could put the small one on the right... but my towers are there.
@MarcoCeppi you know any way to force my primary display to be the right hand display and not always the left.

4:08 PM
@rlemon You missed one small detail, The open button

it is there.
ohh nvm. i see it.

@rlemon One more circle in it

anybody experienced installing opencv in ubuntu ?

Q: How can we participate in the Ubuntu Global Jam?

Jorge CastroEvery release cycle Ubuntu has an event where people from around the world gather to participate in Ubuntu. It's called the global jam. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam Right now the recommendation we give people is "Answer questions on Ask Ubuntu." That's not very detailed at all. I wa...

any other ideas?

@OctavianDamiean heya

Hello Amith.

@htorque do you have a query for all those mispellings you check for for editing?

4:24 PM
man, I really don't want to have to move this small display to the right of my big one.
Does anyone know how to force my right monitor to be my primary display?

I found out something

ok more specifically how do I force the launcher to live on one display vs the other

3.14 mirrored is pie

5318008 upsidedown and backwards is boobies

Oli
If anybody wants any one-line bash porn: askubuntu.com/a/104800/449

4:38 PM
@jrg @OctavianDamiean Can you guys flesh out your ideas a little bit on the Global Jam thread on meta? I'd like to include it in the global jam announcement, something like "And here are some easy tasks you can do to get started on Ask Ubuntu!" or somesuch

Hah! Jrg has 8,404 rep

@JorgeCastro Will do.

@OctavianDamiean it's harder than it seems, I'm trying to get like a list of stuff
instead of "go fix this tag"
since theoretically it'd be a bunch of new users.

Oli
Not sure I've seen "Unbuntu" before.

BBT

Oli
4:49 PM
Argl. Only just noticed that my reinstall the other day gave me a 24GB swap partition >_< Damn you installer! Damn youuuuus!

@Oli Lots of swap space. :D

wow... it seems i'm doomed to move my monitor arrangement.
8
Q: How to move Unity Launcher to a different monitor?

JamesI have two monitors. The left monitor is set as primary, but the Unity Launcher appears on the right monitor. How can I move it to the other monitor?

I have installed the patch, but because I want my launcher on my right side monitor and not my left I have more problems.

Oli
Yeah it decided I for every megabyte of RAM, I need a megabyte of swap on my SSD. I should just nuke my swap completely.

Now to open my launcher I have to mouse over the left side of my LEFT monitor... even though the launcher is on my RIGHT monitor.
@Oli I had 2gb swap on a 60gb SSD. (8GB RAM) and it was never used. like ever.

Oli
Yeah I had something similar before I reinstalled

4:54 PM
now i just say eff the swap.
8GB ram, who needs swap.

Oli
You say that... My Firefox was eating 4GB on its own the other day.

nods
I've never even created a swap partition with 8GB RAM.

I pressed f4 (terminal opens) like hell a minute ago, I just realized that I'm in windows and that command will never work.. :D

Alright., at first I thought TryStack would be cool but it just isn't. Nothing that requires a Facebook account is cool.

@OctavianDamiean that's a bit too mainstream... (require a fb acc)
