12:00 AM
The one thing that's helping me out is that I'm literally copy-and-pasting stuff from my website here.
Pagination... Markdown... etc...

jrg
i hadn't done this before, so development was slow on my end.

@jrg meant before that, you ninny

lol with the way things are, I'm more of a figure head and occasional writer at 2buntu :[

jrg
12:21 AM
@LordofTime You'd think big important changes would get sent out to a PSA mailing list. I don't have time to keep up with the blog of every service I use.

And ta-da:

you assume we have a mailing list :P

and that's not the blog, that was the main site
i now have to rebuild from scratch, which angers me

Excuse the silliness in the bio :P

jrg
12:22 AM
:(
@GeorgeEdison :D

Any comments / suggestions / feedback?
(That's the user account profile page, BTW.)

jrg
@LordofTime I don't know the circumstances of what happened, i apologize.
I assume its gravatar based?

Grr. For a piano lesson, I ended cleaning up after a previous student who, coming from (of all things, why, considering today's heavy rain) a crew race, dripped water from the Mohawk river all over the piano then vomited all over the floor. I didn't even have time to check my piano skills today because of this.

jrg
any cool articles I should read while I'm in the car? I don't think I have enough interesting things.
@ObsessiveSSOℲ :(
And people wonder why I stopped playing the piano...

12:27 AM
That is one of the most fascinating articles I've read in a long time.
I have it in .mobi format if you want.

I stopped playing the piano because I was tired getting shouted at for not knowing things I was never taught.

@RolandTaylor Scroll up for a screenshot.

jrg
@GeorgeEdison: Thanks for the link. Now to play around in calibre... :D

@GeorgeEdison I just closed that tab actually :P

So I clean up after a lunatic rower with an irritated digestive system, and don't even get a chance to check my technical exercises. No Hanon today, just river water. And I had to scream just an hour ago (because his timing was crap) at that same kid over Skype since I don't have time or a ride to physically show up at the river just to scream at crappy rowers about their lousy timing/

12:29 AM
Oh! I almost forgot that we need a 404 page.
Otherwise it will display a 500 page.

jrg
oh , 404 pages are useful.
make it with a random placekitten
so do them between 400-450x400-450
@ObsessiveSSOℲ :(

My hands smell like vomit and I ran out of keyboard wipes.

jrg
Tmi bro. tmi

jrg
12:31 AM
too much information.
@GeorgeEdison that one is my placeholder somewhere... hangon.

@GeorgeEdison In code.launchpad.net/win-cross, how do you have branches as mature with the initial commit?

The contents are copied directly from stable release archives.
Hence they are stable - even though there is only one commit.

jrg
@GeorgeEdison: How did you create the mobi?
i'm curious, since I need to do that for about a bajillion other webpages.

@GeorgeEdison Ah.
I need to get some keyboard wipes.

12:38 AM
P.s. don't use my kitten - I don't know where that image came from
I'll work on some funny 404 stuff next week (maybe)

jrg
oh, i think i have a good one for a 404 page
subtitle: Sorry about that, I think I broke it. Would you like to search?

(that was random)
(and not related to our conversation :P)
@jrg me gusta

jrg
Dear me, wonder what happened to that gif. ;)

Sorry, stepped away for a minute.
@jrg: I just imported the HTML file into Calibre.

jrg
12:50 AM
@GeorgeEdison i think thats what I just did
we'll find out if amazon accepts it in a moment

jrg
I like that one.
that is our 404 page.

...and here we go...

jrg
or that works. :D
sweet. thanks for the link @GeorgeEdison, i'm going to read that.

You're welcome.

12:54 AM
@GeorgeEdison lol!
@GeorgeEdison can we have it pull from a pool at random?
(or almost random)

Maybe later - I don't want to spend too much time making random kittens appear instead of making sure passwords can be reset, etc.

@GeorgeEdison lol exactly - one of those things we can list for later improvements :D
"Did you eated that page?"

3 hours later…

@jokerdino due to Slow internet connection , I tried till I could fix without it

well, you can't fix without it.

5:18 AM
What's size of boot-repair-tool ?

not too big.

But how much ?

about 350kb

@jokerdino OK so yeah, I probably should have heeded your warning -.-''

Ok, Thanks a lot

5:20 AM

@jokerdino I have query that Boot-repair-disk (355 MB) and boot-repair-tool is the same or not ?

hm
it's boot-repair. and it's from the PPA

Ya, understood, I have to create disk so I can fix problem anytime it occurs again in future.Thanks

No fix

darn, you need to run unity --reset to get back.

5:30 AM
is it in ?

@Mahesh nope
cd $HOME; rm -rf .compiz-1
@moc --^

As an additional detail - I had the low-graphics mode error in the beginning and an internal failure saying Xorg wasn't working. I'm thinking I should update my drivers. I had to with 12.04 because it was running Unity2D.
@jokerdino It returns ERROR: the reset option is now deprecated

@Mochan i know.

why do you want to get rid of all her customizations. :P

@Mahesh it doesn't work otherwise ;p

5:31 AM
@Mochan we fixed it. yet to land in Unity.

@Mochan hm, i guess that's the problem.

O.o

her drivers prevent things from showing up

yup. got that.

@jokerdino question is that I show another option for Ubuntu 12.10 installing for OEM what's difference between Standard "install ubuntu" option and that ?

5:31 AM
Jeff is in SU chatroom \o/

@jokerdino Yeah? Could you help? I forget how to do it and I'm a noob anyway.

I'm waiting a week before upgrade. mainly coz i'm dumb enough not to download the cd while at college.

@Mahesh LOL

@K.KPatel what's the other option again?

Hi @Mitch

5:33 AM

@jokerdino ? I know where the drivers are. I need help to apply them.

5:34 AM
@K.KPatel it's supposedly meant for those pc makers.
@Mochan i never had to install drivers. so i wouldn't know.

ok

@jokerdino NP. Do you think I should use the beta driver or the stable version?

which one are you on?

@jokerdino As in...?

are you using beta or stable atm?

5:36 AM
Don't know. I think they're generic. But I'm going to download the stable one.

Yeah?
Didn't know it was. I thought it was graphical suicide :P
Hi @nathancahill

Hey guys

6:35 AM
I say fglrx is evil, but maybe thats just me.

@Mahesh Most likely. Do I need it to run WINE programs?

depends on the program we are talking of.

A) Skyrim
B) TS3
Don't judge. Hear me out T.T

never heard of that. :/

skyrim is a game o.O
you are a gamer :O

6:38 AM

@Mochan oh

@jokerdino :3

okay.

But yeah. Do I need fglrx to run games on WINE?

6:41 AM
@mahesh, now we can add and remove the show-desktop with the python script \o/

I love trying to say fglrx. Sounds like a have trouble pronouncing things XP

hello
I have this panel on lubuntu (right side)

that's lxdm
been there; seen that

how to remove the extra spaces?

you can't. it's a feature

it is not in Lubuntu (default installation)

7:13 AM
then, purge the configurations. that's how i fix most annoyances.

it only appears because i installed lubuntu on top of unity
OK
what is the name of "startup application"'s executable file?
Found it..
gnome-session-properties
I disabled "Update notifier" and now the space is much smaller!

kan
Pain!!

@kan Ubuntu!!

kan
What does sudo su do?

o.O
it gives you temporary su access

kan
7:27 AM
did I kill something?

no

lol
It lets you execute a single command as a different user
as opposed to switching users
and not necessarily root, you can actually set it up for more restricted things too

kan
But, it spit out a large number of directories with number infront of them....

so, why did you run that command?

kan
Oh! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I typed in sudo du! :((((

7:31 AM
gj

kan
I put in man du and I am at peace.

that won't break anything
du = disk usage

kan
Sorry! :)

Now if you rm -rf /
;p

7:33 AM
if you run that command, you shall get yourself killed

kan
I was worried: I knew what sudo su did but this behaviour made me go paranoid... I did not expect....
@JourneymanGeek Heh. Must. Resist. Temptation. To. Try.

stop right there ;p

you'll lose all your data :)

Simon Sheehan on July 25, 2011

This week at Super User, MaxMackie asked “How far will you get with a ‘rm -rf /’” ?  Within minutes of the post, it had not only my attention, but others as well. It had 39 upvotes just eight short hours later, and answers and thoughts poured in.

We’ve all heard the stories – and please, don’t try this at home! rm -rf has caused a LOT of problems with accidental usage in the past. It is a linux/unix command which erases all files recursively, and won’t stop to ask if you’re sure. Adding the extra / has it start at the root directory –  …

someone else actually did it
;p

kan
:P
Is it possible to check if my laptop is overheating? :)

7:40 AM
yeah.

yes

i wrote a bash script that annoys you when you exceed 70 degrees

kan
@jokerdino I see. How long is that?

about 15 lines
need to install sensors for that

BBL

kan
7:42 AM

Hmm... it isn't even working for me :(

nope o.O

Oh hang on...
Try again.
I can confirm it's publicly accessible on port 443 now.

@jokerdino I have question that quental's (12.10) features are available in 12.04.1 ?

nope

\o/
@Mahesh there?

@jokerdino then just sequirity packages are updated in 12.04.1 and bugs fixed or anything else?

8:46 AM
yeah something like that.
they mostly fix minor bugs in 12.04.1 and release it as 12.04.2

@jokerdino upgraded to 12.10 ?

yes

kan
9:25 AM
@jokerdino so, there's 12.04-2?

@jokerdino I see. OK. That update should not be traumatic... :-)

it's just bug fixes being rolled into one
