@Takkat nope it was really a bug which I can't explain right now. I'll have to contact the Google guys working on Android to find out why that component behaves like that
@userunknown That's the idea. There are someprojects that try to do this for both IRC and XMPP/Jabber but they're very hacky and basically involve you running your own server and a "bridge" to connect the web-only SE Chat to your local instance. Ideally SO Inc would just run a XMPP server that interfaces directly with Chat.
@userunknown The XMPP variant could probably do both but even if they didn't, for me, just getting a chat application out of a browser would be a good start

In the beginning there weren't that many high rep users who could edit questions. As that number grows I thought I would add some tips/tricks that I use for those of you striving to earn a badge improve the quality of the site.
@MarcoCeppi Just saying it doesn't make any sense for the person making the edits to not know what edits where rejected. Wonder if the SE guys made that decision consciously or not.
@JamesGifford The SE guys are ALWAYS pushing changes though. It may just be something not implemented yet. They kind of push a "half-assed" idea, get feedback, tune, feedback, tune, feedback, then before you know it there's this whole new section of the site!
@JamesGifford It's a good point, but it would require those guys to give a reason, making rejecting edits a pain, thus lowering the quality of the accepted edits (just a guess, thinking out loud)
Well editing review was only available to moderators for a while. Then we gave them feedback and it was available to 10k users, they gave feedback, then lower and lower down the reputation row

I don't use Unity but given what I know of its mechanics, this may work:
unity --replace
You'll want to stick that in a run box (alt+f2) rather than a terminal or it'll break when you exit the terminal.
The suggested edit is suggesting unity --replace instead of compiz --replace
@Oli It's correct, but "setsid unity" would be even better. It shows you error messages in the terminal, but doesn't quit unity when you close the terminal
This probably isn't a 'typical' use case, however, the Launcher icon property 'count' introduces a break for numbers > 9,999.

@MarcoCeppi I've discovered the icing on the cake for why I hate working with MS technologies. Our win 2k8 server is stuck in rolling reboot mode for updates. which means our web-presence, our email and SQL server are all going down... and the company in their efforts to save money put our staging server on the same as our production server so it halts my progress every 15 minutes when the SQL server poops out
our code is so database dependent, theres no "single line" i can comment out to stop pulling that data, everything, the site theme, the article data, the menu structure, all database driven.
@lazyPower The update method isn't great but it's not unique to Windows. The way to stop that is to wump in a few more nodes and cluster so you can update one node at a time
haha, that would be ideal. They pay hosting.com for this "unique" service.... i made reference to getting a rack and just doing it all in house, or even a rackspace account where we could do load balancing over three nodes, a staging, production, and failover
@MarcoCeppi The existing IT guy, my project lead, consulted them into thinking this was all they would need...ever... and they arent budging off that position, despite the owner and my direct supervisor complaining about the lack of web presence right now, and their "company wide emails" not going through....
The companies - yes. We have 10 micro servers that do all our processing, two web app servers, one Amazon RDS Database instance, one load balancer, and one private network setup
In fairness my hosting bills are much smaller than most companies... It's just a couple of dozen smallish Django sites bubbling along at practically 0% CPU
@MarcoCeppi thats what I would expect us to pay for a cluster per month if we hosted it in house and paid for the bandwidth, plus ran our own UPS solution.
comparable to that cost, so thats not bad. and amazon takes care of the server space... pretty slick.

@htorque Oh yeah Ubuntu is fine. I just find myself moving and symlinking too much stuff (eg Call of Duty Black Ops - 15 gigs straight off, my TinyXP virtualbox image - 20gigs, etc)
