We have moved away from the true menaing of christmas to it being a time of shopping and presents,etc.

"true meaning"... it was never about baby jesus, thats for sure.

what do you mean?
Kind of getting off topic: Does anyone here use Sliderocket?

I don't even know what it is

Checkout slidercoket.com
its an online presentation editor
works real well in Ubuntu
Oh... can someone approve my tag edit?

12:07 AM

hello earthlings . . .

hello

hello

@jrg Thanks for the update. Too bad I've switched to Chrome dev builds lol

Icedrake

Hiya

12:40 AM
hello

@jrg And there's a good chance I won't switch back to Chromium. The download progressbar displaying on the launcher is just too good. :P

@Icedrake not all of them got it?
i got it on Firefox trunk and Chromium Trunk
(unity you talking about i guess)

@juancarlospaco Do you mean the progress bar that appears on the icon in Unity?

@Icedrake Yep

yes
i've got both browser and both show the progress bar too

12:43 AM
@juancarlospaco It appears for you on Chromium? o.O Didn't work for me when I was using Chromium.

@Icedrake Yes, try the Chromium daily builds!, the one that comes with Ubuntu gets old quickly

@juancarlospaco I've been using those until the PPA stopped updating because the builds kept failing. Then I switched to the Chrome dev builds. Now jrg confirmed that the PPA is up and running again so I might switch back to that.

Chrome its bad sometimes compared to Chromium...
@Icedrake also check your about:flags

@juancarlospaco Got those covered, thanks. ;)

12:50 AM
I'll be back in a few minutes, switching back to Chromium

last time i builded the nightly firefox it got a bug on the about pop-up, you close the browser and the about pop-up stays, lol (already reported)
:)
so good so far

I need some help, my sudo stoped asking for password, and I would liket to haveit back. any one could help me?

check the /etc/sudoers
search your user, and see if it have a NOPASSWD keyword there

ok
@juancarlospaco, thank you you were right.

12:59 AM
cool

@Lipe thank you :P

Ah, it's good to be back to Chromium.
Like visiting an old friend, lol.

yep

I go to water my Cactus . . .

1:19 AM
Confirmed that Chromium does have the progress bar in Unity. ;)

2:11 AM

@BrunoPereira :)

3:23 AM
Whoa... Chrome got a new extensions page!
chrome://extensions
(Not that the page is new but that it has changed significantly.)
@rlemon: Found a bug with the 'Quickie' script... it causes problems with secure pages (https:// pages).
Perhaps disable it for those pages?

Hey guys

3:42 AM
Hello.

4:00 AM
Hey jrg, you there?
Need some web dev advice :P

Maybe I can help.
What's the question?

Well, I've implemented a Twitter feed on my site using some html, but the problem is that it displays each of the tweets in a bullet.
I'm trying to get rid of those bullets.

Ah, that's a CSS problem.
You need to create a style rule with:
list-style-type: none;
That will remove the bullets from the list.

Awesome, I'll give that a shot.

That gets applied to <li> items, by the way.

4:13 AM
Worked perfectly, thank you!

Great!

Hmm... that's weird.
Updated website files in web host and all of a sudden website doesn't load.
Everything worked fine the previous times I did the same thing... Wonder what's wrong. o.O

@stefanoPalazzo @oli @marcoCeppi why was me question moved to superuser? and why didn't anyone tell me?! superuser.com/q/368856/66048

12:31 PM

1:01 PM
bought the Official Ubuntu Book

@Alvar It's not Ubuntu related at all, you're asking about the best web server

@MarcoCeppi Back ?

@AmithKK Only for a few mins. Still away from internet this weekend.

@MarcoCeppi on an Ubuntu machine...

That's not what the question said, and even still it's not a very constructive question

1:06 PM
@MarcoCeppi ok.

It's a borderline recommendation question, since you didn't really give any requirements. The criteria was way too open. You'd have a better time looking at each of the web server software in the software center and comparing descriptions

@MarcoCeppi ok, thanks.

mm, It's a much better question for chat

o/ Marco.

since it's highly subjective. I'd say and recommend Apache, but @jrg Will say something like nginx
\o Octavian

1:08 PM
nginx for static content and Apache for dynamic content.

@MarcoCeppi Resources.... nginx and Awesome Dynamics Apache

heh, NOTHING IS BETTER THAN APACHE

Then I'm sure this is where @GeorgeEdison would say "Duh, JetHTTP"

Yea. :D

1:09 PM
@MarcoCeppi lol

I was about to say.

@StefanoPalazzo would say write everything in Python and use CherryPY

I don't know what @Oli would recommend, maybe he uses LigHTTPD

@MarcoCeppi I got the recomendation of using lighttp

1:10 PM
@MarcoCeppi Rather... Stefano:Hey pull out the Python 3k and make your own web server
I go for apache

@MarcoCeppi lighttpd*

Anyways, the point is @Alvar It's a highly subjective question :) But now you have at least 8 different web services to look into

I'd also go for Apache, just because nginx is a pain.

@MarcoCeppi well thanks :)..
I realized it would have been a list if it wasn't like that...

I've been trying to upgrade this computer from 11.04 to 11.10 - the install new packages has taken over 24 hours now, with another 1 day 9 hours remaining

1:22 PM
@MarcoCeppi Seriously... how many packages are installed

Q: Kernel Source Tree (Ubuntu 10.04/Kernel 2.6.32-xx)

Is there a way to delete a misspelled tag?

You can report it on Meta. One of the mods will burninate it.

Okay, thanks.

@AmithKK: I know how to fix the problem with @rlemon's script.
He needs to assign a higher z-index to the element.

When marco told me to look in the Ubuntu software center I almost aksed him, what's the USC? :P

Oli
6:35 PM
@Alvar No idea - I probably would have suggested ServerFault rather than SuperUser but either way it's very subjective.

Any suggestions for how I could improve that page?
It's the unit test results for my PHP API wrapper.

6:58 PM
@GeorgeEdison Yes! I have a suggestion.
If there is a log then add a expand log link instead of having the container scrollable.
I hope what I said makes sense to you.

Ah, okay.
Yup, that definitely makes sense.

Like the SE faqs.

7:28 PM
@JorgeCastro We have to find a day which is most comfortable for you guys as well for the Budapest sprint because I have to book the room soon if I want to sleep at all. :D

Q: How to permanently save powertop's suggestions?

unfortunately not all suggestions show what they do, but the answer from Lekensteyn is exactly what the guy wants.

Hi all

hi!

Hi @htorque: long not seen - I was so busy recently shrug
Time for Xmas break.
2 weeks off absorbers \o/

ditto :)

I do miss the chat during my working hours...
It's so much better than my work ;)
I didn't even find time to peek on 12.04 :"(

not that many differences yet

9:47 PM
That's what I expect. But curiosity usually wins.
At least I have a new project for my holiday (If I find time): get libpulse play nice with my Python.

no skiing? :P

I don't like snow.
In fact I hate it.
Oh - and there was some unexpected money drain the other week... Nothing left.

oh, here it's only the expected xmas-money-drain hehe
i could go skiing if i'd sell one of my kidneys, though. :P

That's not the same. I was facing a tax refund they claimed for 3 years...
...means I was working the last half year for treasury

-.-

9:56 PM
I was about to send them all my absorbers.
But I stopped it in time.
Not that the absorbers make them find another 3 years... :D

hehe

My lawyer says chances are not bad. Lawyers always say that...
With "not bad" they mean that I pay them well.

chances that he's gonna get paid
right ;)
