While speciation and despeciation has been observed in various organisms through its evolution history, an organism that can switch or hop between two distinct branches is unheard of and possibly impossible. Even if we take microbes which can freely interchange and incorporate new genetic material, it will be able to change its genome when it is still alive to be able to hop into another e.g. bacteria branch

In fact, I think even a direct genus change within a virus is unimaginable because it will need to change everything from its capsid to genome
