Is there any creature like this? OR it is just any computerised video.

8:14 AM
@Mesentery
The family Phylliidae (often misspelled Phyllidae) contains the extant true leaf insects or walking leaves, which include some of the most remarkably camouflaged leaf mimics in the entire animal kingdom. They occur from South Asia through Southeast Asia to Australia. At present, there is no consensus as to the preferred classification of this group; some sources treat Phylliidae as a much larger taxon, containing the members of what are presently considered to be several different families. == Characteristics == Leaf insects are camouflaged (using mimicry) to take on the appearance of leaves....

@Tytoalba Oh! Thanks for the reply. I refrained from asking in the main site because I thought it may not be real. Anyway, I cannot give +1 :) but can give a star.

@MadScientist Well, because they were gonna retract them
It wasn't the flaggers' fault. It was SmokeDetector autoflags

11:04 AM
@terdon , @paracetamol found on facebook

heh :) I hate that one too

12:03 PM
@terdon which "one"? the confusing abbreviation?

12:20 PM
yep

12:48 PM
@M.A.R. that doesn't matter, they shouldn't be handled any different than manual flags. And if you get it wrong, declining the flag is the correct course of action

@MadScientist sure . . . They didn't get to retract them in time, and I guess it doesn't make sense to leave the flags be for such a long time. Those messages were just meant for a possible mod present in the room, which no one was, apparently

If smokey is casting wrong flags, that should be noted. The flags should be declined.

@terdon does happen from time to time
That reminds me
I forgot to check whether "anti-aging" was unblacklisted on Bio.SE

Hello folks

@anuvaramban Hi

12:54 PM
@M.A.R. Very rarely, but yes. And I don't see any reason why those flags should be treated specially.

I'm currently working in the theoretical biology space after completing my Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engg and Communication Engg respectively

@terdon shouldn't. I was just leaving the messages in case a mod was wondering what sudden spam flags were doing on a legit but bad question

I was hoping if you guys could help guide me towards which places/professors i should be on the look out for as i apply for PhD this year.
Ideally, I'm looking for a PhD position in US, Europe or Canada. My Field of research right now is Adaptive Dynamics.
I'm interested in Morphogenesis as well
My skill set is mainly mathematical namely, Stochastic Calculus, Dynamical Systems and Quantum Formalism of Probability. Additionally, i have good mastery of Undergraduate Organic Chemistry as well
@M.A.R. @MadScientist @Chris @terdon please read above! Thank you!
@MattDMo as well :)

@anuvaramban we can't really help you with something like that. it's a very personal decision and depends on what you want to work on what professor happens to have a position available, who works on a question that interests you, where you want to live and all sort of things like that.
Just find people who work on things that interest you and take it from there.

@terdon I understand what you mean. I am not expecting to find the perfect fit from suggestions alone but given that this is the background i have, please do suggest possible people who i can consider if you are aware of people who do something with either the tools i have described in my arsenal or the topics that i have described as interesting to me in the Mathematical/Theoretical Biology space. There is no wrong answer right?

1:07 PM
That is incredibly broad I'm afraid. You will need to narrow it down more. And the important thing isn't what you know, it's what you are interested in and nobody can help with that.

@terdon Let me attempt to whittle the playing field/topics of interest

Look, broadly speaking you should look at Systems Biology, networks, modelling etc. Those are heavily mathematical fields. As is synthetic evolution.
I'm sure they're many more but I have always avoided the math stuff despite ending up as a bioinformatician and doing a postdoc in PPI networks/system biology. We collaborated with math types and they did the math for us :)

@theforestecologist may be this is the missing link between reptilia and aves
:p

Mimicry is a weird thing. @Mesentery
