12:00 AM
Which has 30 upvotes and 31 downvotes, for those who can't see.

Yeah. It was contentious.
(Again, putting it mildly.)

It was also toned down quite a bit.
The original title was "Puzzling.SE: Where We Hate Fun - It's time to disallow challenge questions"
After a lot of edits, it now sounds as if it was seeking community input rather than making an edict.

Yeah. I disagree with the original phrasing, though I can see why they made the decision to post it, and I probably would've done the same.
You might find several things in this image interesting:
(I'm not going to show the actual comments, of course.)

Only 3 flags?!?!

They're very vitriolic though, and even that is putting it mildly.
Yeah, and two are from Community!

12:05 AM
Holy hell. How weren't more of those comments flagged?
Hmm. Lemme check something ...

Comment flags don't appear there.

Ah, OK. Two from Community and one from me, I guess from before I really knew what flags were for.
@Deusovi I think they do.

Wait, really? Huh.

Urgh. Bad memories.
hunts for something positive to say

Yeah, I'd imagine so.

12:10 AM
Any more progress on my Three Blind Mice cryptics?
Nobody's made any headway on #2 yet, and that's the one I'm most pleased with.

Not yet. I'm still looking at it.

12:50 AM
I did think that "poor spelling" sounded almost like deliberate, fake bad spelling. But I didn't like to say so, just in case it really was just someone with bad English.
Got to wonder why someone would go to all that trouble just to troll and annoy people.

user61230
I'm trying to move everything from Wheatley's first message to Trashcan, but it's silently failing. @Deusovi, @Randal'Thor, can one of you try?

Hang on ...

Just tried. Didn't work.

user61230
That's... super weird.

Maybe it's because the chat user Wheatley no longer exists?

user61230
12:57 AM
That would be frustrating, if true.

We could try moving everything except his messages (which are all deleted now anyway).

6 messages moved to Trash

Aaand that takes care of that. Move along, nothing to see here.

>Maddie wrote "_ _ _ _" on a sheet of paper, but nobody knew what she meant because it was a misspelled word.
...Really? They couldn't bother to spell all the words correctly?

Nothing important.

@Deusovi - SE(le)CT?

Nope

6:22 AM
@Deus, any puzzle hunts coming up?

There's Puzzled Pint, a monthly minihunt (5 or 6 puzzles, usually) that takes place in a couple cities in person. It's not competitive at all, just relaxed puzzle solving.
P&A Magazine's next issue is March 11.
Oh! And a friend of mine, Jack Lance, is making his third annual "PI Hunt". It'll be released on March 14. Here's a link to the second one.

BTW, should we have a post on here: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/240634/…? We've already got 26 fortnights' worth of challenges.

Oh, definitely! That'd be great - I'll write up something quick right now

Q: one who likes puzzle

elavarasanEight people Sneha, Savita, Soniya, Sarangi, Seeta, Sona, Samaira and Sajna went to an ice cream parlor to have ice cream of different flavors, vanilla, pista, strawberry, butterscotch, mint, mango, chocolate and orange. They all like different colours. There are four boys and four girls. Sneha ...

6:40 AM
@Deusovi Oh, you've never been on Meta SE before?

I have. I just don't go there often.
And I don't really post there at all.

Hi @Anko!
@Deusovi, can you help with the situation on the most recent puzzle? Elavarasen is getting quite upset.
Hi Anko again! :D
Hi @Sid!

6:59 AM
@boboquack Hi! Sorry, wasn't really here

Do you want to play Contact?

Sid
Hey.

Can't right now...I'll have to go soon :(

Sid
@boboquack How were they able to post a puzzle if they are limited to one per week?

@Sid Their puzzle got downvoted into negative, so having 2 negative questions triggered the restriction.
I assume, by what they said and their stats

Sid
7:02 AM
Yeah, well I am surprised they weren't able to solve that question. Although, I now know from where they are getting those questions at least, apart from the app that they mentioned.

Actually, abilities do differ.

Sid
Well, Yes, I don't disagree with that.

But they'd have to learn how to ask a good question in order to avoid getting "devoted".

I think Puzzle stackexchange is useful to me, but now I am new,so you have to Upvote for my question, all are devoted , Now i have blocked from asking question — elavarasan 20 mins ago

"I am new,so you have to Upvote for my question" is a weird of reasoning

7:05 AM
Sounds like they really want to get upvotes, and are taking devotes really badly

Sid
@Deusovi Help the poor puzzler, please. Apparently, Em doesn't like all of us helping him. So, you do it.

@Sid, How to approach these type of puzzle sum [sic]? - are you planning to edit?

How's Deus gonna help tho ?

Sid
@boboquack Edit in for him. I don't plan to do anything.

eh, gotta go now, bye all!

7:10 AM
I'm not really sure what to say, to be honest.

@Sid I'd basically have to do all the working, and I don't really want to do that much. Already got homework to do.
But did you really need MathJax? I mean, really?

Sid
@boboquack No worries. I'll see what I can do if I get some more time.

(or actually, ignore that)

Ignore the going?

Sid
Not really. But it looked clumsy without mathjax

7:11 AM
yep
:D

At least use \mathrm.
Welcome back, Ankoganit! :D

hehe

Sid
@Ankoganit You're at school?

I'm going to off and on for a while now
@Sid No

Sid
I don't really understand the downvotes on their latest puzzle. It's probably due to their poor English, due to which it's not quite clear what they want. But apart from that, it's an Okay-ish puzzle.

7:14 AM
There's only one DV though

Sid
7:24 AM
@Techidiot you found the link? I thought those puzzles were only in books.

There are many links @Sid
Just check this link and you will see :)

Sid
7:47 AM
Hey, @Techidiot Do you have any idea where that puzzle disappeared? The one with the red horse and king riddle?

Let me check

@Sid Sorry, it got deleted.

Yeah. Its done
Gone!

Sid
Him again? Really? This is ridiculous.
I am not going to spend time anymore looking at new users' puzzles.

Who was that?
I don't remember
Wheatly something right?

Sid
7:52 AM
A hopping marsupial.

If anything seems suspicious to you, you can always flag it to bring it to our attention. We'll look at it as soon as we can. (As long as you're not flagging half of all posts or something ridiculous like that.)

Sid
Ok gtg.

@Deusovi How to deal with plagiarism? Flag or VTC?

@Techidiot I mean, there's nothing wrong with doing both.
I'd suggest at least flagging, though. If you can find the source, that's even better - include it in the text of your flag.

Okay thanks
@Deusovi There is one more thing which I need to ask. Should I drop you a mail?

7:56 AM
Sure, that's fine.

I've made a pretty outrageous suggestion on Meta. What do people think?

I may not be able to say some things if they're top-secret mod only information, but I'll try to help out as best as I can.
@boboquack That... actually sounds interesting.
I'm not sure how well it'd work, but I'm not opposed to it.

@boboquack We already have a post with the tools required to solve questions. Have you seen it?
Is that what you are asking?
But again, a written documentation is different thing altogether.

We could always just make a main site post like "What are some common ciphers used in puzzles?". Maybe do it all as CW.

Yeah.

7:59 AM
That seems similar, but less... exception-ask-y.
Anyway, @Techidiot - let me know when you've sent that email.

@Techidiot Yes, I've seen it, but what I'm asking is more about the actual content of the site, author's notes, handy hints and things like that.

@Deusovi Sent
@boboquack Yeah. As I said, referring tools is not of much help but written documentation is way better. But will people spare some time to do it? Will anyone see it? Should it be a website or a community wiki post?

Q: Documentation on Puzzling?

boboquack 'Would anyone even be interested in a website that 1) offers all the basic classical cryptography/cryptanalysis tools you already know from sites like rumkin 2) adds new custom cipher tools and articles concerning P.SE questions once they are solved (ofc only if the cipher isn't complete crap ...

8:15 AM
@boboquack Homophones for you?
Ewe, yew?

Yeah, ewe
So then...

New year's eve?

-1

Top view?
Top yew?
:-/

Go check the other comments to get the intermediate stage

8:16 AM
First yew

(1. UU) UU is important

Neil has got first woman as Eve
Top word is THE

@Techidiot So far, people have found 'FIRST' and 'DOUBLE' and 'EWE'.
Put them together
And use the tag to your advantage

Sounds like a terrible Dolly reference

8:23 AM
@Sp3000 Exactly

Hmm that could have used more confirmation in the puzzle IMO

@Sp3000 Sorry, just realised I forgot to put 'a name of 5 letters' in. It must have slipped my mind at post time and then I assumed it was already there.
Oh, and hi @xnor!

@Sp3000 Do you already have an answer for the rebus?

8 mins ago, by Sp3000
Sounds like a terrible Dolly reference
^^ that

I didn't get that comment. :-/ Dolly reference?

8:33 AM
First cloned ewe, basically

Lol.
That's too much knowledge. :D
You can post the answer then. That should end the puzzle :)

Well it was famous because it was the first cloned... checks mammal actually
Eh, do I have to post :/

Yeah. :)

(Bobo basically spoonfed the answer)
I have no idea how DA has anything to do with the last rebus

@Sp3000 In one of his books, a similar clue appears

8:49 AM
That was impossible for me to guess. You guessed right @Sp3000 so you deserve the points.
UU were clones

But I don't want points :P

Can't find a similar clue in Cluetopia, Puzzled and Wordburger so I guess it must be in Riddledom

Think it's in Puzzles and Words
@Sp3000 It's not in Riddledom

9:04 AM
Hmm don't have that one either, am just curious what clue it was
nvm

By the way, @sun-solar-arrow, here are my comments on your user profile. Good work! English is a very tricky language to learn.

I cannot speak English well. If you found bad grammar in my post, please improve the post.

I'm (very slowly) working on something new...

Ooh! Exciting!

9:14 AM
Lol at the star. :) I'm flattered, but don't hold your breath, life's pretty busy, so it'll be a while.

Hi @Mithrandir!
Are you going to change your puzzle? :D

Which?

Your chat one

How/why would I change it?

Just wondering
(To reinforce your greatness or something like that)

9:28 AM
@boboquack Are you hiding a character in the puzzle? :-/

:P I'm working on Clue 29 ATM.

@Techidiot Yeah, but you have to find it

Is any trivial knowledge required? like the sheep one?

Not for that part, no

There are dots and dashes which seemed like morse code to me but doesn't give anything
Also the AROUND thing
Which might be a red herring

9:31 AM
@Techidiot Not a red herring but not relevant to the riddle
@Techidiot Not intended to look like that, but does serve a purpose
And I'm not going to spoonfeed this one.
:P

Haha.. Offcourse dont.

Have to go - bye!

9:52 AM
@boboquack Thank you for giving the comments!
but you aren't here now...

Q: Forget the freehand red circles - it's a freehand rebus! - Clue Twenty Eight

Mithrandir<<---First clue <--Previous clue This is an entry in the 26th Fortnightly Topic Challenge. You speak the password. The entire space shudders, and the wall that you were leaning on open, spilling you headfirst into... an art museum? There are all of the pictures from the previous Clues there...

@Sphinx Hmm, fast today, are you?

@Mithrandir Have a go at my latest riddle!

@SohaFarhinPine Is the first one Nighmare?

10:22 AM
SO that should be she...

I know, I know.
I wrote it down in a hurry
@Mithrandir There's no such word as Nighmare.
It's Nightmare, you mean.

Ye :P

I was about to comment, is a "nigh-mare" an adolescent filly? :P

Second looks like Cherry

yep, that's what I thought

10:25 AM
@Techidiot No, it isn't. :-)
I extended the first bullet.

@SohaFarhinPine Why do you hurry in making your puzzles? I have seen your puzzle changing drastically after being posted.
Like right now, the first bullet is extended to add a lot of new stuff

@Techidiot I think it's a part of my personality.
I'm a bit quick in everything.
Even I speak fast
at times so fast that I am barely comprehensible

I do that too, but I spend a bit more time on my puzzles.
@SohaFarhinPine Advice: Your puzzles will be better received if you spend more time on them, because they will be more complete and therefor better.
Like my highest-voted puzzle took 3 days to draw.

You should wait a little before putting a hint up. Puzzles sometimes take days to solve.

@Mith it was an accidental post

@Mithrandir Is that it? I guess I got it

Q: When should I add hints to my puzzle?

BmyGuestHints can be a valuable part of a good puzzle, but there are many examples on site where improper use of so-called 'hints' really degrades quality of the individual puzzle or the site as a whole. Okay @Mithrandir I got it

@Techidiot Your final answer is correct, but your method is different.

2 tongues and a ten. Isn't that right?

I'll edit your answer.

10:50 AM
Tungs -> tongues. That's what I guessed
Sure.

I don't think the individual images are rebuses, tech
The three images are one rebus leading to TUNGSTEN

It's probably TONGUE SSSS TEN

Oh, good point

Haha.. That's a way as well :)
But I guess 2 toungues giving tungs fits as well. I mean it sounds fine to me :D

Sid
Yeah, I better not give anyone the tick right now..
I am actually rather proud of this puzzle.. :P

Personally I'd give it to tech (provided maiden voyage is the right answer) since he put maiden voyage on his answer first.

Sid
Yeah, it's the right answer.

I'm not sure what the other user is upto but check the last updates and you will see that the things are just copied and pasted into that answer :)
Sweet puzzle btw :)

4:27 PM
I've observed that user do multiple things that I (personally) don't particularly approve of

Sid
I had secretly hoped someone will fall into that valentine day's trap. Both of you did. Like the icing on the cake for me. :P
@dcfyj neither do I.

I thought that thing was limited to the questions.

What was?

The abrupt changes.

To quote a film "Don't follow"
As in I don't follow what you're talking about

4:30 PM
Talking about the other user and the abrupt changes made to the posts
Haha..
Your humor is a puzzle in itself
:D

@Techidiot I suppose? it's pretty straight forward, I have a dry morbid sense of humor.

And your choice of words makes me remember T-Bag if you know

Lots of edits should be refrained on no matter what it is you're editing. Granted, with answers that's sometimes not as simple to do.
But I wasn't strictly referring to editing when I said she does things I don't approve of. Either way it's not like she specifically answers to me.

Yeah. The thing about ad's adds up

The ad's adds? :P
or maybe the adds ad's? hehe

4:34 PM
lol. I just did a dcfyj

How so?

ad's adds up is a tough one to catch
Anyway, this makes me think of Benjamin Button.

@Techidiot I have no idea what you're talking about... again...

The riddle in the link :D

@Techidiot I've never seen it, but the bold "case" kind of points to it alone

4:36 PM
Oh, haven't you seen the movie?
It's good!
@Matt Are you here or taken away by them ?

When I said I have no idea (again) I wasn't talking about the film

Abrupt modifications to the question + posting them as ad's in here :)

Not so much abrupt, as frequent
Hey @Randal'Thor
Good Aftermornight!

They are kind of abrupt. It changes the question altogether sometimes ;)
Hi @Randal'Thor

I think GAmen is more accurate to the sentence :P
