[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in body (96): How to motivate my lazy partner towards self improvement? by Koenshi on interpersonal.SE

Thank you! That's a good tip. I am indeed still trying to get my life in order and I have stopped participating in his unhealthy habits, but I didn't think it may influence him as well. I don't want to go into actually manipulating him or trying to control his life or anything, so that sounds like a healthy way to be a good influence in his life without being too direct. Thank you very much! — Koenshi 14 secs ago

Thank you for this answer, I will look to follow your advice. I really appreciate you sharing your experience as well, I have lived a fairly easy life so it's difficult to understand how serious things like losing a loved one effect people. — SeriousBri 52 secs ago

Your question is limited to asking your sister to do less public displays of affection, but it sounds like there are some deeper issues. In your post you talk about no one in your family being included in wedding party or pre-wedding events, and obviously that hurts some. It sounds like there's a deeper communication problem than just the displays of public affection. — DaveG 2 mins ago

Hi rekrap, welcome to IPS! Unfortunately, as Erik said, deciding whether your intended course of action is within your rights is off topic here. You may be able to ask your question on Law.se but you should read their guidelines for what is on-topic to make sure your question fits before you post it there. — Rainbacon 1 min ago

+1 for the Your partner cannot change unless they are willing to. That was something my mom had to learn about my dad and that the more effort one partner puts in the less the lazy partner will put in. — Lux Claridge 1 min ago
