Thanks. Sounds like good advice. We had a long talk about the situation this morning. One problem is that sometimes I don't know why I'm down. Then my wife asks "what's wrong", and I answer (truthfully), "I don't know". This sounds like lie, of course, so the downward spiral begins. Also, I'm sometimes reluctant to say "i'm r — bubba 1 min ago

Is it possible your boss was simply more surprised that you hadn't told him sooner that you would leave early? Has your boss previously had reasons to suspect that your tiredness issues are impacting your work? — Kozaky 1 min ago

Not an answer, but the incubation period for the flu is usually about 2 days. If you were experiencing a full suite of symptoms yesterday, it's very unlikely it was from that dinner. Now, that's not to say you shouldn't have a conversation about their food serving hygiene, but if your goal is to be tactful and persuasive, I wouldn't use this incident as a reason. — Lord Farquaad 47 secs ago

I would add to this - a change as simple as going from "I don't know" to "I'm not sure, I am in a funk." can mean a world of difference. "I don't know" often sounds like "I don't want to say" to people whereas "I'm not sure" sounds like a question that you're trying to answer. It's all about communicating something. — Ethan The Brave 22 secs ago

The next time you catch her eye, if she is not already in a conversation / on the phone / in a meeting, stop, approach her and say something like "Hi. I don't believe we've actually met yet. I'm Duncan." and go from there. — MrWonderful 1 min ago
