@AndreAquiles I'm happy for you, man. If you're both in that space right now, go for it. As to what threetimes said about "never recommend rushing into marriage," I'd agree. But there are also many many cases where the lovebirds get married and stay in love past the "honeymoon phase." For a famous instance, see Jeff Bezos and his wife. My dad's cousin and his wife are just like this still — frank 56 secs ago

The relationship you describe with Katie sounds exactly like any new romance "When I said, "I can see me in your eyes" You said, "I can see you in my bed" That's not just friendship, that's romance, too You like music we can dance to" — Anthony 19 secs ago

@R.. - no, I mean to reply to this one. One of the most hilarious, bad advices I've seen on this stack. Funny how a mod deleted my comment. — Davor 1 min ago

I'm not sure I agree with giving the benefit of the doubt in this case. Since, as you said, a respectful person would apologize and explain that something urgent has come up, I'm sure it was manifestly clear to the OP that such was not the case. — Andy 2 hours ago

I'm not sure I agree with your first paragraph. I doubt she will delete messages, I'm sure they communicate primarily through Facebook, and if I find it's true that they have had no contact for a year (which is what she's claiming), I have no reason to wonder the same thing in a few months. — user123 22 secs ago

Also, do you think "knowing whether or not a SO is cheating" is "protecting [myself] from serious harm"? This was the justification I used to go through her personal emails in the first place, and she agreed that it was justified. I think I could have requested to view the Facebook conversation then and also be justified, but I didn't. So does it matter that I'm now asking to view the conversation a year later? — user123 25 secs ago

I also disagree about your stance on trust being the only thing relevant here. The most relevant piece of information is what actually happened, or more precisely "did my GF and X do anything else more inappropriate". If an oracle answered this question without revealing anything else, that would be enough to eliminate my worries, eliminate my desire to read the conversation myself, provide me closure, and let me confidently decide whether to stay in the relationship after all. Alas, there is no such oracle. — user123 1 min ago
