"...but you might also be wrong..." +1 on the critical thinking and self-skepticism - Being honest also means honestly assessing your ability to assess someone's talents. Has the OP worked in every field to know that this person will be unsuccessful in all of them? — Greg Schmit 18 secs ago

@FezVrasta I disagree, but if feels uncomfortable or insulting to you then I suggest you do not use this approach. — Adam Davis 47 secs ago

@DoritoStyle there was an oral agreement, but that agreement did not mandate the OP writing the article, as was explicitly stated. — barbecue 1 min ago

+1 I could see myself using this approach. I don't mind the physical contact, but I do think we'd have fewer incidents of cold and flu if we stopped shaking hands. Also, people of some religions are uncomfortable shaking hands with someone of the opposite gender. So there are a lot of reasons why people might not want to shake hands. — mhwombat 1 min ago

@Andy I don't disagree some people will be argumentative, but I think I was unclear on the tone one should aim to set. I've updated my answer. Personally, I have a very little preference in airplane seats, so I will frequently accept a swap without argument (often considering it a legitimate upgrade as well, given I tend to book seats last minute and have few options). — TemporalWolf 14 secs ago

I wholeheartedly agree that if they are asking for the reason you want to stay, they want to argue about it. I have no ill-will towards those who offer a reason for you to switch, but it's then entirely your choice as to whether that reason and the offered compensation is worth switching. — TemporalWolf 34 secs ago

@Erik Can you explain to me how disagreeing with something is the same thing as denying people opportunities? — Clay07g 1 min ago

I agree, they definitely deserve some politeness and kindness rather than a humbling. Chances are, they're just stressed and over worked. A blessing could be exactly what they need to restore faith in humanity. — Kendra 34 secs ago

@Clay07g It is not automatically denying opportunity to disagree with something, but the only alternative for people who disagree is homosexuality is that they are simply ignorant of what homosexuality means. It is simply non-sensical to "disagree" with a trait. — Erik 1 min ago

I'm voting to close this question because it's still asking "What should I do?" Such questions aren't a good fit for this site. @ArtieLadie If you edit this question to indicate what your goal is when responding to this cashier this could be turned into an on topic question. — sphennings 12 secs ago
