Thank you, I'll take a look at that, but I'm not certain that therapy would help - it might just turn something which she doesn't see as too scary into a really terrifying thing (that's something that her parents often do which just makes various academic things worse). But other than that, they sound like great ideas, thanks!!! And especially thanks for the link! — DaveThePerson 54 secs ago

@Darkwing That "avoidance strategy" tackled the obvious problem very successfully. — gnasher729 23 secs ago

"He thinks my job is just 'free time' as I often could send him a short message and tell him about my day, and he does the 'real work' - as our toddler is very demanding." :: Wow! I think this would be the same argument if the roles were reversed. Sorry. Just amazing to read. — VISQL 2 mins ago

On the flip side, you could ask what they are getting. I can never decide what to eat, so it gives me a starting point and a price point to compare to. One time a friend was treating me, and I wound up getting the same thing as them. It was easy to pick because it was something I liked, and I knew i wasn't overstepping any boundaries, even if they didn't have any. — YetAnotherRandomUser 2 mins ago

You could try getting a girlfriend. Then you could tell them you have one, and it would be true. — Nacht 40 secs ago
