"Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” (Matthew 19:21 NKJV) This is the getting rid of your own thoughts. The treasure is that the word is being heard this will bring you to understanding. Following me means listening to what the word is saying.

@Flimzy You say "Existence also doesn't mean anything close to all things." Well guess what! Here is what Websters Dictionary says: the totality of existent things (2) : a particular being <all the fair existences of heaven — John Keats> (merriam-webster.com/dictionary/existence)
I wonder if John Keats even knew how right he was. I wonder if he knew that he was writing out the name of the One True God.

So it is with all the greatest minds. That's why I don't expect any recognition for my work. ;)

@TRiG Is it supposed to be audio only? Why is he the "first person to live and die as an Atheist"? The speaker must mean that he is the earliest source that fully disbelieved in all notions of an afterlife or spiritual realm. That's a neat tidbit. I thought for sure there were much earlier ones (that I'd been told about anyway).
@fredsbend Aye. It's a radio programme on "the history of ideas". It's also available as a podcast, and comes highly recommended.
Yes, the intro did sound interesting, but I'm afraid my listening to it right now will have to wait. Very busy. Pulled an all-nighter. Working on my 30th hour without sleep and I'm starting to feel it.
@fredsbend Yikes! I need food and bed meself.
Well, that's what I get for procrastinating and shooting time with an SE pistol.

@waxeagle "In Our Time" is absolutely brilliant. It's a programme on the history of ideas. I once listened to a show on gravitational waves. The guests were two physicists and a historian of science. At the end of the show the host, Melvyn Bragg, said, "Next week, Greek and Roman love poetry." Their range really is that broad. They do a lot of philosophy and not a little theology.

@TRiG The archivist. That does sound like a show I would like. I've bookmarked it. I'll get to it some day.
I still have that ethical dilemma bookmarked on my other computer. Ophelia or something like that.
I almost read it two days ago.
Omelas
@TRiG That's the one.
@SabreTooth They say that in AU?
some do
was thinking about your earlier question @fredsbend

for me, I not do not believe, I do not care about religion - and all attempts at persuasion make me believe and care less - I think I have been testing a subconcious theory
when someone advertises something (i.e. preach etc) its affect on me is the reverse of what they are aiming for
and the owner of this room's rantings, judgements and close-mindedness simply confirms my Atheism and apathy
I think you've already said that, in not so many words, though.
it takes me a while to put into words
and I also have an attitude that I am not changing (unless I choose to) whether people like it or not
