Q: Mathoverflow links

Thomas KojarSometimes, I would like to reference a link from MO and it would be helpful if it got immediately turned into the title without having to type it and then include the hyperlink i.e. https://mathoverflow.net/questions/145606/on-the-pathwise-uniqueness-of-solutions-of-sdesstochastic-differential-eq...

This is a cross-website feature, so it's unlikely to be implemented anytime soon. You should also consider asking it on Meta Stack Exchange. — Asaf Karagila ♦ 49 mins ago

This seems similar to this feature request: Parse question links from other SE sites. (The difference being that this about specifically about Mathematics and MathOverflow, the other feature request is about all sites.) — Martin 2 mins ago

Q: Parse question links from other SE sites

SaturnIn a SE site, if you put the link to a question, the link is parsed into the question's title. For example, https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/246034 produces Is the loading icon copyrighted by Stack Exchange?. But this does not work cross-sites. Back at Programmers SE, I made a question ...

Wait, why does this work on Meta SE, though? I had no idea that that was the case. — The Amplitwist 37 mins ago
@TheAmplitwist See: What limitations does converting question links to links with titles have? The answer says: "On Meta Stack Exchange, all sites work." and "On all meta sites, links to Meta Stack Exchange work." (I did not know about that either - but I tend to use [text](URL) for links to questions and answers.) — Martin 26 secs ago

Q: What limitations does converting question links to links with titles have?

genesisOn this question there are more than 50 links to Stack Overflow questions. However, the last 6 links aren't converted to titles (http://facebook.stackoverflow.com/questions/6530420/control-the-image-that-facebook-shows-when-i-like-a-url should be converted to http://facebook.stackoverflow.com/que...

Thanks, @Martin, that information is new to me :) — The Amplitwist 1 hour ago
I have added the tag (internal-links) - the tag-info says that this tag is for: "Questions involving the automatic conversion of Stack Exchange URLs into question titles when included in a question or answer." If this question is specifically about those two sites, one might consider adding the tags (math-se) and (mathoverflow). — Martin 27 secs ago

I imagine the reason it doesn't just work everywhere for all sites is that it requires processing and that processing isn't free. So they do it where it is most commonly used (and useful), but not everywhere. — Stuck at 1337 16 mins ago

Q: Replace trilogy raw links with the current question title?

GnoupiIt often happens that people will refer to other questions by simply pasting the full link to this question, especially on Meta. Would it be a good idea to detect such links, and replace them directly by a formatted link on their current title? Example: You can try formatting at this questi...

A: Replace trilogy raw links with the current question title?

Kevin MontroseFor intra-site links (like, SO -> SO) this is now supported. https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/49424/stack-exchange-sandbox becomes* Stack Exchange Data Explorer Like with tag rewrites this is done on post submission and is not currently reflected in the editor preview. It will always...

Q: Dual of $l^\infty$ is not $l^1$

BenzioI know that the dual space of $l^\infty$ is not $l^1$, but I didn't understand the reason. Could you give me a example of an $x \in l^1$ such that if $y \in l^\infty$, then $ f_x(y) = \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} x_ky_k$ is not a linear bounded functional on $l^\infty$, or maybe an example of a $x \notin ...

A: Dual of $l^\infty$ is not $l^1$

Martin SleziakFor any free ultrafilter $\mathscr U$ the function $$\newcommand{\Ulim}{\operatorname{{\mathscr U}-lim}}f \colon x = (x_n) \mapsto \Ulim x_n$$ is a bounded linear function from $\ell_\infty$ to $\mathbb R$. Since $f(e^{i})=0$, this function is not from $\ell_1$. The limit of a sequence $(x_n)$ ...

"Since f(ei)=0, this function is not from ℓ1"why this function is not from ℓ1? — math112358 Nov 7, 2018 at 19:38
@mathrookie If a function $f\in\ell_\infty^*$ is represented by $(c_n)\in\ell_1$, this means that $f(x)=\sum c_nx_n$. In particular we get $c_n=f(e^i)$. So the only possible representation would be using the zero sequence. However, zero sequence gives use the function $f=0$, which is not the case here. (BTW this is basically the argument explained in detail in martini's answer.) — Martin Sleziak Nov 7, 2018 at 19:48
This requires the ultrafilter to be free, right? — Smiley1000 3 hours ago
@Smiley1000 Thanks for the correction, I have added the condition that $\mathscr U$ has to be a free ultrafilter. (This is needed to show that the $\mathscr U$-limit extends the usual limit.) — Martin Sleziak 1 min ago

Q: We're rolling back the changes to the AUP

Cesar MI’m writing this post to let you know that we’re fully rolling back the changes made yesterday to the AUP and having them go through moderator review. I also want to briefly talk about how it happened: much earlier this year - in May 2023, I received a preview copy of this from our legal team for...
