I agree it is better, as a general practice, for users with significant reputation to wait a while before answering routine questions, so that users with less reputation can answer them. Unfortunate...

Personally, I tend to answer questions only after they have been already moved from the frontpage. (At the current rate it is about one hour.) I guess that might be enough for "fast guns".
