Can't really test it on mobile, but that question in russia, isn't that just a case of mismatched file name/ class name?

I wonder how long it will be until AI and other things basically allow the internet to be completely language independent? For instance the browser could have a setting to Always Translate to X Language, so any time it runs into Russian, or French, or Japanese it would just do it quietly in the background without having to ask. I know that browsers do translate pages, but for some reason you have to tell it to

Cuz some folks are fluent in multiple languages and one would like to not have those languages translated?
I suppose also just doing it by default would probably hammer servers for not much of a gain..?
If google ads are not much present on Chinese or Russian sites, there is not much of a gain for them to "spend money" to let you go on sites where they don't advertise?

Also, if you don't know that the site has been translated, some text might look pretty weird and you'd be confused. E.g. the "Home" menu item which would lead you to the site's main page could/would be translated to "maison" in French, which doesn't make sense. And some languages are written in certain ways e.g. AFAIK Arabic is aligned to the right(??) which could be completely weird and difficult to read if translated to English..

That's why I think AI would have to be involved, to figure out what the word should be in context. I don't know what word the French use for the "home" page of a website, but if it's kind of a standard then hopefully an AI system would eventually be able to take the english word home and turn it into whatever the french use.
And in a way it could maybe be used to get more ads on more computers, since there would be more of a reason for non-english speakers to come to english only websites and see the ads.
And lastly, it does seem to make the most sense to have a range of automatic options. "All languages", "All languages except for list", "No automatic translation". Maybe it would require for AI processing to be more local for security/privacy. There are some things that you might not want sent to some online AI platform to translate.
I know some of the anime and manga companies are planning on switching to AI instead of human localizers because they keep running into localizers that actively hate the property or author and will change the spirit of the work instead of being faithful to what was written.

@AndyD273 You'd still need someone to know both languages and do the check to make sure that the AI did keep the spirit. Although presumably the effort will be less and so the cost will follow.
