Perfect opportunity to introduce your kid into pair programming

Haha he's still a bit too young :P
That's most likely be pair LEGO building :P

Kay
I've once saw the homepage of an IT-consultant. He kept a history of projects he worked on and what he did. In all of them he mentioned his 3+ year old child as tester.

nice hahaha :D

Kay
when the child graduates it will easily have 10+ years of experience on his belt. By this he will easily fullfil the hard requirements given to junior devs

I actually now wonder whether there is a way to gauge skill in software developent and how skilled someone is supposed to after x-years. I'm quite certain though that doesnt exist
the best thing i can come up with is actually how much value the software dev is creating. whether it be in sales or time saved etc

That's hard to evaluate...
And from my experience, giving 'value' to "time saved" is much harder than to give 'value' to "value added"...
"by doing X, we'll be releasing the software 3 days earlier" does not fit well in an accounting excel spreadsheet.

well thats true, but improving existing processes can also be part a dev's life.
I've currently developed a piece of software for my company for like 2 years. We ve recently got the first big order and the time invested returned almost immediatly. Now they can easily "live of the fat of the land"

1:11 PM
It should be part of a dev's life :p
But these improvements should be guided.
"I'm improving this process, it'll take me 5 months, and it will save us one month when I'm done."
It reminds me Mike Acton, who said that if it didn't save 5x the time taken, it was not worth it.

Wow, solid software process management advice from a game dev chat :P

@ShotgunNinja I think that means I should start removing all those messages to hide the evidence
