guys, it is just an impression of mine or in unity layout groups (horizontal and vertical) have severe limitations? like for example you cannot (at least easily and/or precisely) set their elements size?

it seems that unless you have dynamic contents it is way much better to use anchors

but aside that layout groups look like they are only usefull (partially) when you have dinamic content to show

and in that case it is quite difficult to set elements in the same row/column with specific size

if that size is fixed it is ok, you can set your preferred, etc. but if you want the size to be a % it has limitations

@Almo yeah, I think the anchoring system is quite good to have nice gui scale. but yes, indeed there are feature which need revisions :)

I've always saved a tiny bit of spite just for the monstrosity that the Unity UI system is.

Weird. I've never had much issue taking 2D code or concepts and applying them to 3D ones at least in Unity.

@Almo hmm actually as you se an anchor unity sets an offset to maintain proportions in the scene. when you alter an anchow be sure to reset to offset. working with offets to 0 is much more easy

one tip for dark souls: if anything seems completely unfair, like you're doing 0.1% of the boss's health per swing of your sword or something, then you're probably doing something wrong. maybe you went the wrong direction, or there's a gimmick, or you're not supposed to fight that thing yet.

I finally figured out that you need to do the jump move from on top and found the dying dude who gave me my flask. There is this hallway on top where there is a fucking skeleton who kept killing me. This stupid bag of bones kept kicking my ass. God I suck lol.

Are you meant to die twice and get that flask? The first time you clearly weren't meant to be able to kill the boss unless you are great from the start.

I'll play it later. Between my break I've been really getting into OW.

yeah, it's possible to kill the boss the first time, and there's a reward for it, but getting a real weapon and then jump down from above is how you're "meant" to do it

not sure if you're supposed to die, actually... but the estus flask is important. that's your main source of healing through the game.

Ya. I've seen a ton of videos and media on it and finally decided to pick it up to see what all the fuss is about. I actually tried playing on the PS3. It scaled me down to 720P and then I read online it had various problems maintaining FPS (why I am not surprised). So I bought it on GOG for $5 and got it running in 1080P at 60FPS with DSFIX.

I recommend getting a controller for it - the xbone controller just uses a microusb cable to plug into your computer and the driver should install automatically on windows - but dsfix is also how I played the first one and it works well enough. If you move on to dark souls 2 then you'll really need a controller.

I need to buy a new one for it actually. I'm using a PS3 controller at the moment with some xinput wrapper. It works surprisingly well though.

My old 360 controller had ghosting issues and couldn't be bothered with it.

Also anyone out there who needs a used PS3 controller just buy a Chinese one they are half the price and work just as well. At least in my experience.

ah yeah, PS3 controller would work too, and I think there's a mod to make the game show PS buttons.

@KevinvanderVelden I used it on Win8, but I haven't tried earlier than that. I'd be surprised if there's not a Win7 driver somewhere but I don't know.

I'm sure there is. It's easy enough to figure out though. Basically everything is the same minus the joystick placement and feel.

It's a shame you have to "fix" Prepare to Die Edition after you buy it. Out of the box it technically "works" but the port is still piss poor.

@Leggy7 yeah the Layout Groups aren't really meant to be dynamically-sized. You can, however, attach a LayoutElement to a child beneath a LayoutGroup and specify the exact size. The downside though is that you can't couple it with a ContentSizeFitter, so yeahhhh it's all a bit crap at times

@Sie yeah, from what I heard they never intended to port it at all, then just did it because fans wanted it so badly. 2 and 3 are much better, though, as long as you use a controller.

I played the original Demon's Souls for a week straight when it was kind of new
someone imported it into NZ and I bought it second-hand
guy hand-delivered it to me, as well as like 30 pages of print-outs (since the game didn't have very much info about it online, was hard to find)
pages were covered in dirty yellow cigarette ash/residue cuz the game stressed the seller out a lot lol

So any of you guys experiment with sales projections or how do you do that? I usually just look on Steam Spy (I know it's not the most precise tool) and then times the owners by the price (and also take into account sales, and price changes) then try to get an approximate value out of that.

I was farming the cows in the beginning village and went to rest for them to respawn > repeated until the cow god appeared

the cow god is so strong I can't go back to that village

It kills everything in the village

Then I have to actually wait like 2.5 seconds while my character drinks her estus flask. Really? You can't move and drink from that? What a load.

It pisses me off but I still feel compelled to come back to it lol.
