@William'MindWorX'Mariager IDA?
LOL look at this fools, trying to sell bad html5 games for 1000$ marketjs.com
@Hjorthenify dm.dk
Through DM I can get into "lærerstandens brandforsikring", and because I'm a student I get 50% of my inhouse insurance and 25% of my personal insurance.
Ah
I'll look at it when i get home :)
Yeah, you should.
I saved 50% on my car insurance :D It's awesome. Went from 14k to 7k.
Thats hopefully not in euros
00:11
Haha, DKKs ofc :P
:P Still expensive.. Good thing we have public transportation here
Hehe, my GF kinda needs the car for her job :P
I'm thinking about getting an MC though. It's more versatile than public transport and cheaper. It'd suck sometimes of course, but I think it's still preferable.
MC aren't built for gravel roads
... gravel roads? Where do you live?!
Jylland? :P
00:16
Psh, we have plenty of good roads. All the money we make :P
Oh right. The stone brick ones a descent :P
Well jokes aside.. A MC sounds pretty neat :)
It's only going to be a cheap crappy one :P But still
00:19
I can get one for 10k and with a three year warranty which is plenty enough.

01:17
@TheMuffinCoder lol! im not going to place some of that stuff looks good though
man id be thrilled to get the tshirt

5 hours later…
user92578
06:37
Added grass placement, and now off to school:
user92578
user92578
06:54
Oh no I forgot the grass stuff that comes out of the ground
user92578
And there seems to be a couple of bugs
user92578
I use 6 different tiles and 4bit masking, so I've probably messed an ID up in the translation array
08:44
I have a plan for the js13k
:o
I'm thinking I'll make the reverse of invisible inc. i.e., you build the base and then AI agents will try to steal stuff
user92578
09:06
Sounds really cool
The question of if I can pull it off remains open
I think I've got the agent AI mostly figured out in my head
user92578
I got the grass working properly:
user92578
user92578
And I've still got an hour before I have to leave to school again
Jon
Jon
09:52
SSD Shipped.... now just missing my cpu cooler
user92578
nice
user92578
I gotta say that I would rather stay home and code than go walk in the rain back to school again
Jon
Jon
says in stock on their website..
user92578
But I guess I'll get trough just one english class
Jon
Jon
i asked them and they said that they expect to get restocked next week -- not happy about that
IN STOCK!
user92578
09:55
really annoying
Jon
Jon
In fact .. 3 of the items that said In Stock, were not in stock
First time I had this issue with them.
I think their stock management system is fucked up
user92578
:(
user92578
I might have to re-order my tileset once again
user92578
To make it more cleaner
Jon
Jon
Would suck to have everything except the CPU cooler.
Yeah why? looks fine
stop re-starting everything :P
user92578
09:57
:D
Jon
Jon
you are a serial restarter
user92578
But consistence!
user92578
I know...
user92578
But see how the tiles are duplicated:
user92578
user92578
09:58
Fuck Gimp and the black color
user92578
but you get the idea
Jon
Jon
hmmm
user92578
Not all duplication is required
Jon
Jon
just to get that different shade?
user92578
Well currently It's just a small shade difference
user92578
09:59
But I'd like to add some different border stuff etc
user92578
But yeah, the new format I use requires a 8x6 grid of the base tiles
user92578
So the stuff at the top left is rendered useless
user92578
oh man I think I'll try to implement a ladder brush when I get home after I've first left home
user92578
Anyways I gotta start prepare for leaving
user92578
see you in a couple of hours
10:09
@Tyyppi_77 how are you packing stuff?
user92578
10:21
@Ali.S Packing?
Jon
Jon
sprite packing.. your sprites are all soooo tidy
as in putting different kinds of tiles together to form that big reference texture?
Jon
Jon
wow
user92578
That's where I draw the stuff, directly to that single big texture
Jon
Jon
amazing video stabilization tech vimeo.com/136663915
10:23
well you can try these projects:
https://spritesheetpacker.codeplex.com/
https://www.codeandweb.com/texturepacker
Jon
Jon
second one isn't free
turns random sprites red
personally I prefer the former (cuz it's open source)
user92578
Well I don't see why that would help me?
@Tyyppi_77 it'll be easier to edit each sprite better
@Jon never had those kinda problems
Jon
Jon
you used it? It turns random sprites red until you buy it
might be a sprite limit on it
I thought it was shit anyways.
Better one is ShoeBox
10:25
@Jon and there is a free version
user92578
Why? I like working on the big sheet, allows me to see how a tile will blend with the others easily
user92578
Keep the theme consistent that is
user92578
But yeah, I think I'll just reorder the tiles slightly
user92578
10:27
Dump some duplicated stuff etc
Jon
Jon
The thing with sprite packers, is you can generate the atlas + the sheet
the ordering is not important
And you can add padding, and extrusions and shit
really fast
user92578
Oh true
user92578
I just don't see the huge benefit
Jon
Jon
it benefits when you have sprites all over the place
user92578
"Oh that looks ugly"
user92578
10:30
"Wait where is the file"
Jon
Jon
11:15
@Tyyppi_77 You should really check that out
user92578
12:00
Oookay
user92578
Yeah current AI can't do pathfinding, just walk on a single surface and not fall off
user92578
I think I've read that article when I was thinking about AI
user92578
But the whole AI is going to get a re-make I think someday
Jon
Jon
concept is simple. you tie the platforms together in a nodal like fashion
if platform2 can be reached by platform1, you link them
gives you a path -- Then it is a matter of determining what node a position is closest to
user92578
Yeah awesome pathfinding sure is something that could make the game pop out
Jon
Jon
12:03
Yep... quite frankly it could make or break your game
you could add dogs
super fast and come at you
user92578
Yup
user92578
I actually think I'll just keep the tileset for now
user92578
But now, a ladder brush
user92578
2-bit masking in coming
Jon
Jon
hehe
user92578
12:06
Oh no, wait, 1-bit I think
user92578
My bottom ladder is not different at all
user92578
so it's just a matter of "Am I the top-most ladder?"
Jon
Jon
easy peasy
user92578
Yup
user92578
After that I think I want to do a bridge brush
user92578
12:08
And then I think I need to do some core work
user92578
Saving/Loading
user92578
Or entity/trigger/collision stuff
Jon
Jon
fun stuff man
is the level editor in game?
user92578
Yeah
user92578
I need to spend some extra time fighting the GUI system, but then on the other hand it is really awesome :D
user92578
12:10
And allows quick testing etc
user92578
Oh I don't actually know how I'm going to do the multiple-different-brushes stuff in the editor yet
user92578
Might have to do an ugly if-chain
Jon
Jon
layers
user92578
Yeah I have layers
Jon
Jon
the background tiles is a layer... the collidable tiles is a layer... Then you have another layer for objects
or multiple layers for objects, if they overlap
user92578
12:13
Yeah, something like that
Jon
Jon
you are going to have to have some IF statements to handle the types somewhere
user92578
This is just an idea, but I might actually create the collision rects from the foreground tiles
user92578
Yeah that is true
Jon
Jon
or if you do inheritance
you could just call the base function
but whatevs
user92578
Yeah true, but I need different constructors
Jon
Jon
12:14
you would still need to cast
user92578
Funny thing is that I'm still using Tiled for just one purpose: it's the easiest way to get a tile ID for a sprite
Jon
Jon
I wrote my own sprite class
Then I have a spritesheet class
user92578
me too
Jon
Jon
I assign an ID to every sprite that is loaded
Then my animation system is derived off of the loaded sprite IDs
user92578
Yeah sounds kinda like mine
user92578
12:21
But getting a tile ID to use in the editor, just clicking a tile in Tiled is so much faster than trying to calculate it from a GIMP coordinate
Jon
Jon
cool, sounds like you are doing everything right, haha
user92578
:D
Jon
Jon
yeah, that is where spritesheet atlases come in handy
best to code that.. but it is difficult when your pixels are touching
Unless all sprites are the same size, then you can just grid it
user92578
Mine are
Jon
Jon
you could easily code the sprite splitting
assign IDs
user92578
12:30
Here we go:
user92578
user92578
Now I just need to add the if (selectedBrush == LADDER_BRUSH) stuff
user92578
Jon
Jon
12:51
friggen cats
user92578
lol
Joe
Joe
that is a GIANT mouse
shame it's not fun though
Pip
Pip
Eyo!
user92578
Eyo!
Pip
Pip
@Jon nice to see you working on that again!
Jon
Jon
I get random snags in my physics engine, at the corner of a polygon
watch...
user92578
13:23
Ouch
Pip
Pip
huh
try moving it down a tiny bit
Jon
Jon
lol, yah I tried man
it randomly gets snagged on that polygon edge
tried multiple variations in positioning
Pip
Pip
Any way to smooth that corner?
Jon
Jon
i could add more vertices there, but I think that is the problem
@Jon oh nuts
Jon
Jon
13:25
wow, @Pip that might of fixed it
just added another vert
Pip
Pip
heh, nice
sweet
Jon
Jon
yeah, no more snagging up to now.. looks good
user92578
Okay I think I really need to separate the tile types from the layer types
Jon
Jon
and @Pip wasn't working on it, just checked it out for a sec :)
user92578
13:30
Because I really want my "structure" tiles to connect to the ground tiles
Pip
Pip
Heh
So, I found someone's list of the bugs in Unity Linux currently
splash screen stays active in behind during project selection screen
close button is missing on project select screen
save scene has "Open" button instead of "Save" button
color chooser dialog can't be resized, moved and it's height is wrong so you can't set RGBA color correctly
animation controller doesn't show correct context menu when you right click selected item
tabs in editor are way to sensitive for poping out
mouse position can sometime be wrongly calculated and offseted by menubar(happens when dragging objects)
That's a lot
user92578
yup
user92578
hmmm, I wonder how do I do this effeciently
Jon
Jon
that are the bugs for his personal project.
oh wait, lol
well, they did say it was beta
user92578
I kinda like the feeling when you break something intentionally, hit F7, and wait for the shit to hit the fan :D
Jon
Jon
13:45
everyone is reporting stable @ 4.5Ghz OC for the 6600K
~110W
the wattage jumps pretty dramatically after 4.5 though
Pip
Pip
nice
Jon
Jon
Yah, that is a 1Ghz gain
@Pip doesn't seem too serious though
Jon
Jon
They apparently had massive issues getting to 14nm process
next family will be 14nm then they switch to 10nm
I have a feeling that 10nm switch is going to be pushed back
They need to focus on core efficiency more, instead of size, to reduce power draw
user92578
Getting closer:
user92578
13:53
user92578
Okay, so that works
user92578
Now everything on a same layer connects
Pip
Pip
@Almo forward it to me?
gimme an address
Pip
Pip
ward (dot) programm3r at the g mails dot com
just so it doesn't stand out in the log :P
user92578
14:10
It's something:
user92578
user92578
All tough I'm not a huge fan of the current "bunker" sprites
user92578
And it's a bit buggy still
user92578
Really buggy...
user92578
But hey, atleast I didn't break any existing stuff
14:19
Finally home!
user92578
Nice!
user92578
14:34
The fact that my tiles are actually a bit smaller than 16x16 (because of the borders) makes smooth transitions quite difficult
user92578
I need to have a thing behind a tile for connecting stuff
user92578
So basically if a bridge starts at (10, 5), the first tile needs to be at (9, 5)
user92578
But I guess that's a reason why I'm making a custom editor; the brush will automatically place the tiles where needed
Pip
Pip
15:11
Anyone else noticing Google's servers being slow?
Not just youtube, which is what I was using. Like.... google.com as well
huh, whatever. Seems to work now.
user92578
Youtube's been real slow for me
Jon
Jon
holy fuck the fan I bought is fucken huge
Joe
Joe
HAHA!! jsfiddle.net/xdbn7Lon (please note the volume is set to 2.5% and this is still kind of loud)
user92578
cool
@Jon pics or it didn't happen
Jon
Jon
15:20
I measured my case just to be sure
It clears it
neat
Jon
Jon
I didn't realize how friggen big it was.
is it quiet because it's so big?
i like quiet fans
Jon
Jon
yeah 140mm fan
its suppose to be very quiet for a fan based cooling
15:23
Bigger fan allows lower RPM for the same airflow, making it quieter indeed :)
Jon
Jon
I should of checked compatibility first with my mobo
Luckily it is on the compatibility list
Quite frankly, I thought it was 1/3 the size
lol.
:D
Jon
Jon
that might be a microatx board though
Well anyways, not gonna be scared to OC my chip now
4.5ghz here I come
Pip
Pip
15:40
HAHAHA THAT IS AWESOME
nice fan pickup
Jon
Jon
I may have to remove 2 fans from my case to make it fit, but not sure yet.
Pip
Pip
worth
Jon
Jon
my case has 7 fans
user92578
wow that's a lot
user4704
15:47
O_o
user4704
That uh.
user4704
Looks gross.
Jon
Jon
bought it a long time ago, lol
it is massive
user4704
I hope you hide it under your desk
Jon
Jon
yeah of course
user4704
15:48
otherwise i might worry about what long-term exposure will do to your eyes
user4704
:D
user92578
Bridges!
user92578

Jon
Jon
its too big to be on a desk
user4704
I have such a hard time buying PC cases because I think they're basically all ugly.
Jon
Jon
15:49
I bought that case back in.... shit 2001
2003
Pip
Pip
@JoshPetrie yes
@Tyyppi_77 You've been working hard, man. Nice job.
user92578
Thanks!
user92578
I might have to do something about erasing stuff tough...
user92578
If you click on the railing or on the supports, weird stuff happens
Jon
Jon
@Pip
Pip
Pip
15:56
Hm?
user92578
Okay, well, that was an easy fix
Pip
Pip
I'm going with a 960, that's been decided
nice OC though
Jon
Jon
whats your PS?
user92578
Just checking whether there is a bridge below or above us, and adjusting the erasing position based on that
Pip
Pip
450?
Jon
Jon
15:56
you might want to get a bigger one
Pip
Pip
Possbily
I might go for a 750 one
Jon
Jon
200W under load + 91W for the cpu
Pip
Pip
Again, the cost :/
Joe
Joe
ok i have background music! but now i need to reduce 500 bytes
lower bitrate
Joe
Joe
15:59
soo the "music" is code... i literally have no otherfiles outside of a js and html index
Pip
Pip
@Jon yeah, I'm at 296 with no OC
oh
Joe
Joe
i think i need to remove code logic? idk
is it minified?
user92578
16:09
lol
16:53
People that are doing the 13k js thingamajing
What libraries are you using?
user92578
I just can't draw a good fucking bunker wall tile
user92578
The coloring is so hard to get right
Joe
Joe
@Lasse yea im 500 bytes too big minified
@KevinvanderVelden i wrote everything from scratch with the exception of my sound code
user92578
start renaming your variables to a, b
Joe
Joe
17:05
^ the miniifcation already does this
user92578
aaaaah
Joe
Joe
@KevinvanderVelden js13kgames.github.io/resources i use JSFXR that @TheMuffinCoder reccomended and i also use the soft synth code for bg music right now gist.github.com/p01/1285255
@Joe JSFXR is indeed the plan
I'm also probably going to be using twgl to help with webgl
Joe
Joe
i wasted a few days trying to do actual wave files until muffin showed me that
user92578
Looks like I'm stuck, so I'll just call it a day
user92578
17:09
cya guys tomorrow
Pip
Pip
17:21
later Tyyppi
Joe
Joe
@KevinvanderVelden think you can fit webgl in 13k?
@Joe easy
Given that webgl is in the browser =p
Joe
Joe
but 3d models and stuff? or your going to go proc gen route?
Proc gen
Well
I'm going to go with tile based stuff and sprites
Just webgl for rendering it quickly
Joe
Joe
ahhhh
Joe
Joe
cool ty
18:04
Aah
Protip: When working with random numbers in GLSL, don't store the seed in a float
On the bright side, I've got my background working!
What happens?
18:18
Well, I did a ripple effect, with the last few ripples showing as well
However, sometimes rarely all the ripples would move to a different position
Well, all, several at once
Which should never happen, except for floating point imprecision
Yeah first bit of art
Now to make it a shitton smaller because it's nearly 4kilobyte
@KevinvanderVelden stream!
Haha ok
Streaming CC @Hjorthenify

Q: Who are these DC superheroes?

JeanPaulBesides Batman, Superman , Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, who are these superheroes?

hahaha
check out the comments on the most-upvoted answer
I'm really considering going back to windows 7 and dual boot windows 10 instead..
An overview of the entire dungeon in DCSS:
You need three runes to enter the realm of Zot, where you can take the orb and win, so it's definitely not necessary to visit everything to win.

1 hour later…
20:08
ok got my dog working and animating and following the player in UE4
now I have to move to our client's version of UE4, and figure out what they've changed
20:22
@Almo for a second I read "my dog's working ... "
ahhaha
Joe
Joe
i did the same thing... "hes got a dog that makes games... I am a horrible developer"
2
and I was like what? his dog is smart enough to tackle with UE4?
hahahah
@almo please don't break our spirit like that!
20:24
:)

My mother has this issue with her windows 8 PC where each button press is triggered twice (once when pressed and once when released) any suggestions on how to fix it? I did check easy of use functions and did a system restore. It also seems as if the alt key is held at all times.
Ooh, they've been busy making a documentary about Magic: the Gathering and its pro tour for two years! :D
21:35
@Hjorthenify try another keyboard
@Ali.S Laptop :/
try another keyboard!
like open it up...
disconnect internal keyboard connector
I did try an extern one and no probs there
So we are certain it's a hardware problem, with laptops keyboard?
Yeah :/
Unless its a driver problem
But the restore should have fixed it if that was the case
21:43
@Hjorthenify have you tried opening up the keyboard?
checking if the key is stuck?
