I think I got 5 hrs sleep, not sure if awake

Its 2:30 am here and I'm reading in my C# book.. I know how you feel

12:49 AM
lol
I guess atm I'm itching to try out a new art style for Tallowmere. otherwise will stick to mah pixels
but yeah, a sequel.... sounds appealing. C# is calling me
furthering work with UnityScript sounds like digging deeper into a pit of molasses unfortunately :/
think that's the glaring thing that's been bothering me

Seek deeper into the dark side... Use UnityScript

it's affecting my mental health :p

lol or go hardcore and use Boo >:^)
Show Unity that it is wanted

even Unity has said they're shying away from UnityScript and Boo since it compiles so bloody slowly lol

arithmetic operations are not atomic.. What

1:04 AM
kids these days...

Kids these days with they're fancy C#... back in my day we used some good old Java

shakes fist

Rips off Jacket

Back in my days we used good ol' C++

Pff C++ we used to use vacuum tubes

1:06 AM
and stamp cards

Real programmers set the universal constants at the start such that the universe evolves to contain the disk with the data they want.

pretty sure my programming languages went BASIC > PHP > JavaScript

BASIC > JS > PHP for me :D

nice

1:09 AM
:P
I went BASIC > JAVA > JavaScript > C# now :P

Awww yeaaa BASIC doesn't suck according to that website

BATCH->Lua/Sql->C++->C#->Python->C# :P

lol

What?

<3

1:11 AM
<:3 it's a hat now

Mine was an ice cream cone btw

isnt a ice cream cone <o ?

No that's the emote for black hole collapses to a singularity

lmao
🍦
I FOUND IT the real ice cream code 🍦

<o`)

1:13 AM
Is that the java guy?
I think he needs arms

There is a Java guy?

Bro don't disrespect duke

You best get to knowin or 'tend like you does foo

Looks like a shark tooth with a blister on it...

1:14 AM
xD

hahaha
sorry bro I can't let my only good star get pushed off the board

Sorry, man
It had to be done :P

Now can't star it, just to spite you

>:D

and I can just reduce to 110% zoom level to have it back
And your mom goes to college!

1:17 AM
Atleast my mom is getting an education
>:D

I made a tree
user image
3

Ooo
Looks good!

thx :D

You need to post more of this stuff so we can get Mick's stars pushed off the table :P

I still got plenty of zoom to go before my eyes get annoyed ;)

1:19 AM
:P

@Hjorthenify I made a high resolution crate :D waiting for it to upload rn :P

@MickLH Was afk didn't see it
Not bad
Made in Blender?

I google imaged duke and this came up

Senpai Duke

I always loved whiteboard graffiti

1:31 AM
Yay
Done with the chapter
Didn't go as much in-depth as I had hoped for, but I'll be heading to bed now.
oh and does any of you know of any in-depth articles on multithreading?

About multi-threading what?

Synchronization primitives in general?

Yes

I don't know the C# ways to do all that, I do it the dinosaur way with mutexes and semaphors

1:34 AM
C# has the lock keyword :P

Sounds like a mutex

lock(this)
{
//all this is now thread-safe
}

Is there something like wait too?

It's a monitor
Yeah

LOL! is now thread safe...
good luck with that

1:34 AM
Hm?

Locking around your operations is barely the first step :P

Yeah..

The real work is thinking it through, how do your threads "zipper" together

Thats why I asked for a more in-depth :P
Because this way more of a "This is a thread, use lock and forget" chapter

With mutex & semaphor, it's pretty simple: When processes compete for resources, lock around any transitions from one valid state to another valid state.
Otherwise, when processes are waiting to be asynchronously triggered, block on a semaphor so the thread sleeps until it's ready

1:37 AM
lock()
semaphor?
semi whore?

C# has a semaphor, I don't know the semantics of it
But you can use it like an asynchronous message, some threads wait for it, some threads trigger it.

Ahhhh
That was mentioned
Pulse is the word I think

I think you'll be safe as long as you strictly never unlock until the object state is valid.

Also, assume that Monitor.Exit() or the end of a `lock() {}` block, is actually gonna pass the CPU directly to the next thread, so even a instant unlock-relock will result in all your data changing... but only when you don't want that to happen ;)

2 hours later…
3:22 AM
Hi folks

3 hours later…
6:51 AM
o/

7:18 AM
hi

1 hour later…
user92578
8:47 AM
Morning!

9:11 AM
howzit
I think I can finally work on some art again. past 48 hours, real life's gotten in the way lol

Real life is the worst

yep.
might play a bit more Catacomb Kids for final inspiration first

user92578
i slept like 6 hours last night

user92578
programmed to 3, then rolled around in bed to almost six

user92578
woke up at 12

Jon
9:49 AM
sounds like a pretty awesome day

user92578
lol way too little sleep for a teenager :D

Jon
lol i was joking

user92578
oh

user92578
im too tired to get them :D

user92578
uuuugh ive been trying to tweak a sine wave velocity for like 20 minutes now

user92578
9:59 AM
it's just two floats

6 hours is more than enough sleep for a teenager! I used to sleep about that much when I was a teen.

user92578
lol I need atleast 9 hours

omg, do you not have mountains of homework and study centers you need to go? R you not Asian or something?

user92578
okay, parachutes now apply a small "wind" wave to the characters

user92578
lol

10:04 AM
more time you spend studying, better life in the future. Just study no life, man. flips burger , lets out deep sigh
that's what all the adults used to say. fck that. Go outside have some fun, life is not all about study :)

user92578
oh i spend a lot of time studying during the year, and i've gotten really great results

10:42 AM
I haven't had a reason to go outside the past week because of grey and boring weather, but what happens the day I actually have to get out? We get thunderstorms with a mixture of heavy rain and hail combined with strong winds that makes sure you aren't going anywhere on bike.. -.-

user92578
lol

user92578
true nerds dont get out even if there's sunshine

user92578
Okay now I think I want to add a new type of hazard to the game

user92578
Actually, I might rework the blood particles first

s-sunlight? what's that

user92578
10:46 AM
^

Jon
heh

@BlueBug Another of those "Why the fuck did they have to change the lyrics just to add some generic, boring synth-beats instead?" remakes. See also: "Behind Blue Eyes".

I live in Denmark.. I wouldn't know. Always covered behind the clouds.

@MartinSojka
is there any fast emulator?

Jon
In canada, we get sun eh?

10:47 AM
No.

@Hjorthenify I like ambient sunlight, with a roof over my head and zero glare

@ujwaldhakal No. Emulators are, by definition, slow.

i am using android studio really sucks

Jon
emulators are not only slow
but also not accurate

10:49 AM
@MartinSojka Wait you don't like the lyrics? (It doesn't make any sense, but I like it)

@BlueBug I don't like that they changed them - and replaced them with just some generic beats.

Jon
Martin hates change

haha

2 days ago, by Tyyppi_77
AAAARGH I DONT LIKE CHANGE

user92578
^

user92578
10:51 AM
Sooo, cool hazard ideas that aren't too much work to implement?

user92578
I was thinking about mines

user92578
But they aren't that good when the environment isn't destructible

Johnny Cash replacing " I wear this crown of shit" with " I wear this crown of thorns" in his re-make of NIN's "Hurt" works and adds some awesome Jesus allegory to the whole thing.

@Tyyppi_77 blowdart thingies

Replacing a whole part of the song with senseless beats is just stupid.

10:52 AM
or snakes

@Tyyppi_77 flaming barrels

exploding towers

user92578
thats on the list

user92578
at the bottom of it, but on the list :)

10:53 AM
@Tyyppi_77 frag mines, they have less terrain damage and more fragments (particles!) flying around

Just reminding you...

user92578
frag mines could be cool

user92578
flames could be awesome too

user92578
NO

10:54 AM
@BlueBug THAT'S WHAT I SAID

user92578
THATS ONE OF THE CHANGES I DONT LIKE

I was staring at it. Thought I was going mad.

Jon
Yeah, the new color is really dumb
Look at the logo on the bottom right
dat contrast

user92578
Like WTF was wrong at the cool hexagon thing?

it sucks

10:56 AM
I liked dark hexagon better too

Is there a place where I can appeal my complain?

user92578
Meta I guess

user92578
@Hjorthenify Your own style? I like it

@Tyyppi_77 wait... you really liked my crappy code?

10:58 AM
I cant do bright background for text on my screen..

user92578
I think that for most parts it was easy to follow the logic and see what's going on, at least on a general level

Got custom styles for here, wikipedia, stackoverflow and msdn

user92578
But I only did some quick skimming

user92578
Could you give me the style???

user92578
I only have a style that hides the feed box

user92578
10:59 AM
I think I want a hazard that has something to do with the player stepping on something

#input-area {
    background: #333333;
}
kind of helps

Jon
greasemonkey

Stylish

Jon
on it

user92578
But it still, a plain color doesn't beat hexagons

Jon
11:01 AM
#input-area {
background: hexagons;
}

user92578
What would be a good "OH NO I STEPPED ON IT, NOW I ONLY HAVE A SECOND TO REACT BEFORE <what> HAPPENS!" thing?

Q: Can we have old color theme for the chat room?

Blue BugThe current version is way too bright. It would be superb if we had color theme we can customize for the chat room. If such feature is too much to ask, I at least desire to tone down the color a bit.

2

makeAesthetic();

user92578
I wonder if that's a thing for our meta, or is the style the same for all chats?

@Tyyppi_77 Lava! Airstrike! Zombies!

11:02 AM
as long as it looks better, I'm all for whatever

user92578
I can't upvote it :(

user92578
too little rep

@BlueBug you might need to specify which chatroom it's for, I dunno, or is it applied to all rooms?

We also still need the improved link colors

user92578
And should we just ask for the old style back?

Jon
11:03 AM
ok

user92578
Instead of just modifying the color

Jon
so the background image was deleted by mistake I think
if you look at the CSS
for input-area

user92578
Yeah I found that too

what was it called?

Jon
background: #000 url("//cdn.sstatic.net/gamedev/img/bg-notify.png") repeat scroll 0% 0%;

user92578
11:04 AM
an odd name tough

user92578
so I wonder if it's related

Jon
add
background: url("https://i.imgur.com/iENg3.jpg");
looks decent, heh

is better, aye

Jon
well, could be better, i just googled hexagon black
took something on page 2
leeching off his bandwidth
oh its imgur.. cool

moved the meta to game-dev-meta. Now at the correct meta website.

11:08 AM
sweet

user92578
again, I think you should mention the lack of the image

@Jon Nice one, but I'd add background-size: 30% auto;.

Jon
yeah agreed :)

Jon
much better

11:10 AM
@Lokkij very cool

:D

Jon
doesn't connect for me...
oh, flash
doesn't work

dang how do I add "background: url("https://i.imgur.com/iENg3.jpg);" I am totally noob with web browser.

I use Stylish

Jon
a plugin basically yeah. I just did it right in firebug

user92578
11:15 AM
Me too

Jon
if you refresh the page, you have to re-add it everytime this way though

user92578
True

Lol

user92578
OH WHAT THERES A META POST ABOUT THE THEME?

11:16 AM
u r too late @Bot!

user92578
Maybe I'll try to make a spike pop out from the ground

Jon
make his legs fly off
just do it
thank me later

I've got
div.message a {
  text-decoration:underline;
}

#input-area {
    background: #333333;
    background-image:url(i.imgur.com/iENg3.jpg);
    background-size: 60% auto;
    box-shadow: inset 0 5px 20px rgba(0,0,0,1);
}

#input {
    box-shadow: inset 2px 2px 3px rgba(0,0,0,.666);
    padding: 5px;
}

button.button {
    box-shadow: 0 2px 10px rgba(0,0,0,.666);
}
at the moment

Jon
i'll try it
also found this
oh n/m that one is good

user92578
Oh man that is really good

11:19 AM
oh yeah I did it
Chrome lets you simply edit it on your browser if you hit f12

yeah

@BlueBug So does Firefox. The question is if it survives restarting the browser.

refreshes the browser .... :* (

Just use stylish, works fine

Tried to use the stylish... I got this result.
I want something like this... i.imgur.com/Ol1yTQU.png

11:29 AM
@-moz-document regexp("https?://chat\\.stackexchange\\.com/rooms/\\d+/.*"), regexp("https?://chat\\.meta\\.stackexchange\\.com/rooms/\\d+/.*"), regexp("https?://chat\\.stackoverflow\\.com/rooms/\\d+/.*") {
body .messages,
body .message .meta {
    background-color: #1E1E1E !important;
    color: #AAAAAA !important;
}
body .messages {
    border: 1px solid #666666 !important;
    border-radius: 6px !important;
}
body .messages .content {
    text-transform: none !important;
}
body .messages .content code {

@Hjorthenify Hey man. Save me from this shiny new theme. My eyes are burning. How did you manage to do that?!

Found most of the code somewhere and tweaked it to my likings

user92578
Oh that's cool @Jon

#room-tags {
    visibility: : hidden;
}
#roomdesc {
    visibility: : hidden;
}
Why doesn't this work?

11:38 AM
Try with fewer colons, maybe?

Yes, one colon, not 2

Wow im blind..

user92578
lol

CSS is annoyingly fickle.

11:39 AM
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! TY PEOPLE!!!

user92578
Wow the style from the github link has all sorts of cool stuff

Such as?

user92578
It zooms on images when you hover on them

user92578
which to be honest is kinda annoying :D

wow
@Tyyppi_77 I just noticed that as well. I think that's cool

user92578
11:45 AM
Yeah

user92578
It's just the scrolling that's annoying

I do have that problem as well. It's got that funky up/down when zomming in/out. I guess its because my monitor is too small

I'm trying to remove the room description and tags..
Doesn't go too well. What am I doing wrong?
#room-tags {
    visibility: hidden;
    height: 0f;
}
#roomdesc {
    visibility: hidden;
    height: 0f;
never really done any CSS btw

Use display: none; instead of visibility: hidden;
The latter only makes it not visible but it will still take up space

11:48 AM
That's why I tried to change the height :P
Awesome! Thanks :)

Well don't do that in this case =p
Also the reason it doesn't work is because "f" isn't a unit

Ahh
So it fails silently?

Use Npx, N% or 0 (where N is the value)
@Hjorthenify yeah, css doesn't do any error reporting really, there's tools for it but not browsers
Same with HTML. It's pretty much why we're in the browser hell we have right now

Good god I'll never make a website..

user92578
@Ali.S lol

11:50 AM
@Hjorthenify that's not bad advise =p

2 days till its announced if I am accepted into college :D

user92578
nervous?

Nah

user92578
Hmm I starting to get scared if I'll run out of entity type flag space

Was more than qualified for it

11:58 AM
"you're too smart, we don't want you"

How many entities do you have? O_o

user92578
not that many

user92578
how many flags can I fit into a long?

64?
I think

user92578
Okay

user92578
11:59 AM
Ah then I'll be good for a long while, thanks :)

Depends how long the long is
