12:40 AM
@Gajet - You want me to develop an RTS?

that would be nice

What would set it apart?

you mean from other rts games?

Right

first of all you are developing it.
and after that, I've always had an idea to create an RTS game, combined with a workshop.

12:43 AM
workshop?

I mean you could design weapons while playing the game.
let's say, you've researched swordman, and horse.
you can combine those two to create a horse rider.

Kind of like combining Dark Templars / High Templars in SC to make Archons in SC / SC 2?

I'm not really sure about that.

I guess the question in more basic terms... do you combine two units to do it or is this unit available to build after the two things have been researched?

I'm talking about before creating units,

12:47 AM
In SC its combine two units

I combine two technologies, to create a new type of unit.

Hmmm
That seems like a normal RTS where units have prereqs.
I must be missing something?

I'm not sure about how the graphics will fit into each other, but if you get it right, it will expand much more than any other rts game.

yay I'm back

Welcome back!

12:49 AM
Thanks :3
Hey guys, any of you know well the C# Reflection library?
I'm having a behavior with it that is not documented/expected

I've done some work with reflection... but only real basic stuff such as dynamically figuring out what class / namespace / assembly I'm in, etc.
@Gajet - I'll give the RTS thing a thought. I think I'd like to do strategy of some sort but I've gotta think up some fun mechanics and then decide RTS or Turn Based.

I'm trying to convert a Property into a tuple of two delegates (Func<T>, Action<T>)

Yeah I can't help with that :P
Sorry.

I've only touched Reflection in Java, sorry.

Anywho... I'm out for now. Ciao!

12:53 AM
):
bye!
Got it to ALMOST work.
protected Tuple<Func<object>, Action<object>, Type> GetPropertyDelegates(string name)
{
    PropertyInfo prop = GetType().GetProperty(name);

    Func<object> getter = (Func<object>)Delegate.CreateDelegate(typeof(Func<object>), this, prop.GetGetMethod(), true);
    Action<object> setter = (Action<object>)Delegate.CreateDelegate(typeof(Action<object>), this, prop.GetSetMethod(), true);

    return Tuple.Create(getter, setter, prop.PropertyType);
}

Okay, I am going to see if I can't get an enemy to shoot at the player, now.

I can get the getter, but the setter, it throws a Error binding to target method.
Strange, because the getter is going fine with the this parameter as the binding target.
Ok, I've found the mistake
parameters of a delegate aren't covariant
But how am I going to generalize it? D:

1:39 AM
@GustavoMaciel we've never trying finishing that TD game

@Gajet You're never going to try finishing that TD game, or You're never trying to finish that TD game?

@EbonDreamer it was a misspelling I meant "we've never tried finishing that game".
though i'm not sure if I'm right this time either.

No, that makes perfect sense. Though I think I'd say "to finish" instead of finishing.

2:22 AM
I love unity's hierarchical organization. <3

2:38 AM
@Gajet yup, maybe someday :D

@GustavoMaciel you are at your end term break now, right?

you mean vacation?
I still have somedays left.
What do you think about we remaking it for the ludum dare on august?

that would be a nice idea.

awesome :D

finishing that should not take that much time, maybe a day or two.
and I've got plenty of days left of my summer vacation.

3:24 AM
Progress!

3:45 AM
@EbonDreamer yay!
sorry for saying it late though!
any new releases?
@GustavoMaciel ludumdare rule #1 : you must work alone (solo)

WAAAA

guess that's it.
@GustavoMaciel though there is jam competition which allows working in a team.
you don't check the chat room often enough, I'm a bit disappointed.

4:01 AM
oh ):

seriously what are you doing?

right now? eating bread, thats why i wasnt on pc in the past 10min
asides, I got a little work as a tool dev

cool.

making GUI and level editor for a game of a friend of mine

is there any screen shots available yet? or a playable demo?

4:11 AM
there is a old video
let me search

Delegates are effin' awesome.
Now that I know how to use them, anyway. Haha.

yup, delegates are sure awesome :)
@Gajet this is the old interface, It's constantly changing heh, this video is from 1 week ago or so, so lots of changes has been done

BRB started a game

4:47 AM
@EbonDreamer cool enough, though it's very easy.

Try to use reflection with Delegate.CreateDelegate and all that
it won't sound that easy xD

@GustavoMaciel you know there is an actual game studio out there named gear studio?

Oh yeah?
didnt know, do you have the link?
nvm, just googled it
it seems to me its a random forum ._.
no, i didnt find nothing related and relevant.
gearstudios.com.br btw this is ours
(work in progress)

@GustavoMaciel gear-studio.com
though mine is google result too.
but it seems they have some games out there

woaah

4:59 AM
my google works better than yours :D

although, those guys dont update anything in 2 months

doesn't mean they are dead

doesn't mean we're going to use the same name

5:18 AM
@Gajet Yeah, hehe. I'm working on that.

Hi
I am finishing my map building engine
and i want to export all the map information in a file
the problem is that i dont know what filename should i choose
at the moment i'm saving the map like map.pendejosgamemap
is that bad or good, or it doesnt make any difference?

3:12 PM
Why oh why does Unity's Rect struct only have a constructor defining it from the top left point?
@Chorche It shouldn't make a difference, but file extensions are generally shorter.

7 hours later…
10:00 PM
I want to flag these two questions - gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/31903/… & gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/31905/… as "not constructive" but I'm not sure where Game Dev stands on these
On reflection I decided that flagging them as "Not constructive" was appropriate. If I get the flags declines at least I'll know for the future.

10:36 PM
yup, those questions are no longer appropriate

10:56 PM
Anyone have a suggestion for this?

Q: How can I move along an angled collision at a constant speed?

Raven DreamerI have, for all intents and purposes, a Triangle class that objects in my scene can collide with (In actuality, the right side of a parallelogram). My collision detection and resolution code works fine for the purposes of preventing a gameobject from entering into the space of the Triangle, inst...
