If anything, they're probably just overly careful.
If Disney is driven by anything, it's money and expected revenue. So they naturally try to find the least common denominator and avoid any and all possible image controversy.
But the word "phobia" has also grown a lot over its actual meaning, so maybe it's still that.

if Disney was worried that the whole thing was just going to be a platform to push an agenda to the detriment of the series then that would be understandable, but "could NOT represent any form of bi or gay relationship on the Channel" sounds more like "your series seems great but hide your gays and we'll give you money"

Q: Was Cary Elwes's evil scientist "Dr. Jonas Miller" a last minute addition to Twister (1996)?

Michael SternI watched Twister for the first time today and was struck by how much of an afterthought the "evil competing scientist" subplot seemed. So much so that I suspect it may have not been in the original script at all, and perhaps was added at the last minute at the behest of the movie studio. Beyond ...

Q: Did Heavyweights' Tony Perkis Inspire Dodgeball's White Goodman

Jim G.In 1995, Ben Stiller started as Tony Perkis in 'Heavyweights'. Tony is a fitness nut who believes he can whip the campers into shape because he too was once fat with low self-esteem. Similarly, in 2004, Ben Stiller started as White Goodman in 'Dodgeball'. White is a fitness nut who owns Globogym....

@M.A.R. (You’re no longer pingable in the periodic table room) How much Alkaline Phosphate is good for liver? I mean what it actually do, does it help in digestion or something more subtle?

6:54 AM
@KnightadmiresChappo Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme found in some organs, and if its levels in blood rise too high, it'd indicate those organs are damaged and the enzyme 'leaks' into the bloodstream. It varies from person to person, really, and you need the advice of a licensed professional whether it's "good" or "bad". Its levels go up in hepatitis or kidney injury, for example. If its levels are high, you may be prescribed to undergo some sonography.
Its levels could also go up simultaneously with blood phosphorus levels, indicating that something has gone wrong especially regarding the Ca–P balance in the blood and tissues which is often because of some kidney disease.

@M.A.R. You have mentioned that kidney disease has to do with high level of Alkaline Phosphate, but it’s amount shows up in the liver function test, any relation between these things?

Q: Does Zha-ya in "Curb Your Enthusiasm” really mean "Fuck me"?

ksadjadI know they discuss this at length on the series, but I haven't found any non-curb related evidence to support it. So does it really mean that?

7:36 AM
@KnightadmiresChappo Both kidney and liver tissue have AlkP. There are much more obvious ways to determine kidney diseases, but AlkP is one of the few things in a normal blood test that'd indicate liver damage or fatty liver or similar

@M.A.R. Thanks! It’s great to learn things by discussions.

It is indeed

Q: A story about a young police officer in China

j4nd3r53nPlease forgive if this is off-topic; there doesn't seem to be a tag for story-identification, so I'm not sure. This is a film I saw on the plane to Beijing several years ago, perhaps 10 or more. The setting seems to be in a provincial town, and there is a tall bridge over a fast flowing river, as...

Q: Identify date a movie was aired on TV in the UK at end of January 2003

DanielI'm trying to identify a date which is significant to me. I remember that Terminator 2 was playing on the TV that evening (in the UK). It would have been some time between January 14th and January 31st in 2003. But unfortunately I can't remember the exact date and the only way I can think of to i...

Hey everyone, quick question -- I gave an answer to a question yesterday(?) and the OP didn't like my answer I suppose and I believe they just went through some of my other answers and spam downvoted them. Their question has since gotten like, 4 downvotes and I'm assuming they're just salty about that and are taking it out on me.
Any advice or is there anything that can be done to reverse their spam DVs?
movies.stackexchange.com/questions/110366/… is the question/answer in question. I checked their rep activity and their 5 DVs all match the timestamps of my receiving negative rep across 5 other answers I've provided in the past to other users.

@Charles while i can't tell how you've been able to match their downvotes, the timing of your rep losses does look very like serial downvoting. not sure if the system will pick it up though and reverse it
i'd say if it doesn't reverse after a day or 2, maybe @ ping one of the mods to take a look

2:12 PM
@Memor-X I went to that user's Profile --> Activity and looked at their rep changes and compared their 5 recent downvote's timestamps with the 5 downvotes that I've received. IMO it's pretty indicative given the situation and the fact that I've not received any other DVs or that user issue any other DVs recently within the last few weeks.
and compared their 5 recently issued** downvote's timestamps with the 5 downvotes I've received.

@Charles i'm probably not seeing what you are seeing as what i see is the -4 and -6 downvote to their question which would match to the 5 downvotes they got to the question

oof.. you're right. Sorry.
But still!, the serial DVing I've gotten remains. Okay cool, thanks for the feedback :)

Q: What does "He's a lox" mean?

Nelson BlakeIn The Departed (2006), Frank speaks on phone with Colin, who just saw dead bodies of two gentlemen from Providence: Frank Costello: Who's the lead detective? Good. He's a lox. By google, it is a reference to smoked salmon (lox). I am confused. What does "He's a lox" mean?

Q: Did Gus have a family?

treskovWhen Gus invited Walt to his house for dinner, there was a short glimpse of his - probably - living room where we can see a toy car and a toy table. Was Gus’ family ever mentioned in the show? I think there was an implication of Gus being homosexual and the revenge he took on the cartel had also ...

Q: Why everyone turned away from this character?

YasskierThis is a question about the very ending of a 6 season series, so obviously HEAVY spoilers ahead: I am failing to understand the final reaction that the main cast had in the end towards one of them - it is clearly displayed that they are going to cut all the ties to one of them. This character is...
