Q: What movies are featured in the Movies & TV Stack Exchange header background image?

Andrew OstergaardThis is a link to the background image for the header for the Movies & TV Stack Exchange. You should see this image at the top of your page, although it's a little easier to see each frame if you click the link. The image is in the shape of a filmstrip, and there are seventeen frames. I was able...

Q: How was Gustavo Gaviria able to appear in this scene?

K.RejepowI watched Narcos a long time ago, but I know that Gustavo Gaviria is killed by police after he gets caught. However, Pablo Escobar later talks with Gustavo on the bench when he goes out to the public secretly. Was that a hallucination or did Gustavo not die?

They just found the real person that committed the case through DNA in 2019 for the Hwaseong serial murders! — Almer Dzananovic 6 hours ago
if anyone has time, can you add a link to the story or post a new answer to that effect?

11:00 AM
@Hakase i think this is the article?

11:16 AM
I didn't do any research but at first glance this seems relevant
are you hanging around in most rooms or just the sames ones I do by accident? :p
>.>

there's probably one movie I'm looking forward to that I can name, and it's the next Matrix
wonder how it's gonna feel with all the John Wicks

what

I'm a lil afraid of the curse of Johnny Depp
there's a chance Keanu is gonna be like "sure, call me Neo, but you know I'm John, right?"

John Wick 1 is good. 2 and 3rd I didn't check yet

I went to a theater for 3 for the first time in a loooong while
and you know what it was just nice to sit with 7 other people in the theater
it was a ten o clock screening in English with subtitles so you know not the most popular version or time slot
I wanted to make sure a 4k 49" screen at home with headphones on a discrete audio card is not losing to any theaters and it doesn't :p

11:33 AM
@Hakase Is this some kind of weird joke or is this genuinely planned?

what is?

The mention of the "next Matrix" from the message I replied to.

if you're talking about bracket faces, it's just an off-brand attempt at emoji humor re: deleted message
umm no joke there, I'm genuinely waiting for the movie

But is that a movie in genuine planning or just wishful thinking?

I admit I'm not updated on the movie industry news so I might be unaware that it was a rumor and not actually true, but right this second I googled "next matrix movie" and it seems pretty real and coming up to me

11:36 AM
Oh my.

does it look real or still shaky?

Apparently it's a thing.
How odd!

alright, then have you heard about our lord and savior, the final fourth Evangelion movie coming up with a more or less solid release date?

@Hakase just here, The Bridge and Maid Cafe so i say by accident
or coincidence, whichever

11:53 AM
@Hakase Well, I haven't even heard about the first three.

ye I suppose anime and moves have a lot of overlap, and games are also a major entertainment medium
@NapoleonWilson honestly you should watch the original series first if you want to get the full picture because there is just sooo much content omitted from the movies
I've rewatched it recently and this is basically the extra content you would want to see if you've only watched the movies, which is great

@Hakase Does it help if I...haven't heard of that either yet? ;-)

@Hakase apparently this year in June
assuming you're talking about 3.0+1.0
Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 (Japanese: シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版𝄇, Hepburn: Shin Evangerion Gekijōban) is an upcoming Japanese animated science fiction film directed by Hideaki Anno and produced by Studio Khara. It is the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, based on the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Originally expected for release in 2015, the film was indefinitely delayed due to Anno's involvement with the 2016 film Shin Godzilla. Production resumed after the production of Shin Godzilla ended in late 2016. The film is scheduled for release in June 27, 2020. == Production == The...

I guess movies and anime have not as much overlap as I thought :p
I mean just go from the top down, see what you like
we can give specific recommendations either here or in the anime room if you want
not everything is for everyone, for example I almost never watch those sports animes
we even have a recs list meta post

Q: You want recommendations? Here's a list of them

HakaseThis is the special meta post where we post our recommendations. It's not for asking, just for posting whatever you feel like others would be interested in watching/reading/playing/hearing. Also, below is a list of third-party sites which may be helpful in finding recommendations. Third-party l...

it's outdated but still good stuff there

I always wanted to watch that Cowboy Bebop thing people are so up in arms about. Never got around to it yet, though.

12:03 PM
@Hakase rebuild movies are different continuity. sure watching the series helps understand but really it just sets up how different the first film is to the start of the series

look, you should ignore everyone on movies, anime and tv shows, alright? just look at the screenshots and see if you can stomach the art style first, then check out the first 20 minutes (or one episode) and see for yourself
this is the only real advice I've realized works best over the years
even "sports" anime genre has something for me
myanimelist.net/anime/20583/Haikyuu specifically I enjoyed very much
also, if you're ever going to try to get into Ghost in the Shell, you might want to check out our recommended viewing order answers

Q: In what order should I watch the Ghost in the Shell series?

KilluaThe Ghost in the Shell series is comprised of several movies and animated TV series. TV series: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG Ghost in the Shell: Arise Movies: Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG...

the live action movie is trash btw :x

@Hakase I watched the original movie. Also the live action remake. Both were nice.

I still enjoyed the live action for what it was worth, which wasn't much
I liked blade runner 2 more, if we're comparing older and newer revisions , but this is an odd comparison

I have to say the live action film for me actually transported the themes that everyone said the original was supposed to transport more than the original did.

oh...
well, yea I get how it could be

12:10 PM
I mean, it was still an interesting film, but whenever people said what the deeper themes were, I went "yeah, I guess, kinda". The remake made those clearer to me, if only because they were more in your face maybe.

did you think of the original's pacing as weird and unnatural?
ye this series in particular at least at the start tried to be subtle and hinty rather than in-your-face
with the latest Arise series it's a bit more mainstream and says what it means

I watched it quite a while ago, but I think I found it generally a little...disconnected and episodic. Maybe "pacing" might be the word for that.

yea it has a peculiar sense of direction
this is why I like it though, japanese directors give you something different from the western styles
variety, spice of life, something something

Possibly, yes.

have you seen that Memoirs of Murders movie?

12:20 PM
No.

well there you go, another recommendation :p

Is that the exact title?

(Because there's a lot of different things with slightly different titles. Do you mean the Bong Joon Ho film?)
Ah, okay.

I can't remember that f'd up korean movie where all the bad things happen to a woman who moves cities with her son, but I don't feel like it would be a pleasant recommendation anyways, just something that is very moving in a spooky way imo which I haven't seen in western cinema to quite that extent
if you ever find it, you'll know what I mean :p
Ad Astra is an okay recent space sci-fi movie I liked
but I liked Interstellar and Gravity more

12:26 PM
I haven't seen that yet, but I wanted to, since it seemed kind of like Interstellar.

yea it is closer to that
I wish there were more space movies like that

like I've read so much scifi stories from classic writers, a lot of them were space-adjacent and the problems described were just that much more interesting because the setting was basically handwaved as something "not the usual everyday stuff"
some directors like to take the usual politics and put them in a space scifi setting not understanding the important differences and it turns out pretty disappointing
Bright was a mess of a movie for one

That thing with Will Smith and the Elves and Orcs parallel world? That looked really weird.

yea
scuze my french :D

12:42 PM
anyway if you ever want an anime recommendation, ask in the anime room and someone will talk to you for sure

Q: How could Ronan the Accuser be killed by the Power Stone if he is immortal?

Braden EllisIn Guardians of the Galaxy, you see the titular Guardians kill Ronan the Accuser on Xandar using the Power Stone. But if he's an immortal entity, shouldn't that mean it can't phase him?
