Q: How are 3D still shots or "time stop" effects created?

Tyler DurdenI am always amazed by 3D still shots in which the action freezes and a character is able to walk around and the people are frozen like statues. How do they do that? Some of the famous movies featuring 3D still shots: The Matrix (1999) Clockstoppers (2002) circus scene in Big Fish (2003) Cashba...

Q: Movie where the American president dreams of soup/broth?

A: What do the triangles in the Ghost in the Shell (2017) poster symbolize?

3ncrypterI was looking for the same last week after watching the movie when I found this on Reddit. This looks like the correct explanation and makes sense. The triangle represents three components of the human psyche; Id, Ego, and Super Ego. Here is the source Reddit discussion page.

I got the same answer too but I was searching more but forgot to answer that

Also...I don't know how to do song titles. I know that we're supposed to italicize movie titles, but I don't know about song titles...

@steelershark 'tis the same use-mention distinction, no?

@steelershark done, nice question

Just italicize

7:50 AM
@M.A.R. I really don't know. I have never had to deal with it before ;)

@steelershark do whatever suits you italic, bold or link
You did link, it's fine

Okay. Cool :)

@steelershark Using a different formatting would mean you want to distinguish it from movie titles, as opposed to standing out from the rest of the text, and normally there's little reason to do that

I'm watching Die Hard with a Vengeance. I can't believe that I have seen this a million times and never noticed that Bruce Willis said that before!
@M.A.R. Okay. I guess that I will leave it for now :)

There are people on ELL that use so much bold, italics, strike through, numbered and unnumbered lists, headlines and a bunch of extra Unicode formatting that the post looks like a formatting salad.

Format salad! Hehehe!

@M.A.R. lol
@steelershark did you heard about Chester Bennington?

@AnkitSharma Who is that?

@steelershark Linkin Park lead singer

@M.A.R. he is singer

Oh, right! Yeah, I heard that he committed suicide. I didn't know his name, though.

Chester Charles Bennington (March 20, 1976 – July 20, 2017) was an American singer and songwriter best known as the frontman for the rock band Linkin Park. He was also the lead singer for Dead by Sunrise and fronted Stone Temple Pilots from 2013 to 2015. Bennington first gained prominence as a vocalist following the release of Linkin Park's debut album, Hybrid Theory, in 2000, which became a commercial success. The album was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2005, making it the best-selling debut album of the decade, as well as one of the few albums to ever hit...

@AnkitSharma the problem is can you cover everyone that's been in the TV and movie industries and what-not?

Don't sleep on the keyboard
Paths of Glory is a 1957 American anti-war film by Stanley Kubrick based on the novel of the same name by Humphrey Cobb. Set during World War I, the film stars Kirk Douglas as Colonel Dax, the commanding officer of French soldiers who refuse to continue a suicidal attack. Dax attempts to defend them against a charge of cowardice in a court-martial. == Background == Cobb's novel had no title when it was finished, so the publisher held a contest. The winning entry came from the ninth stanza of the Thomas Gray 1751 poem "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard". The book was a minor success w...

@Memor-X I'm very happy with a new Stargate series (in the TV canon)...I'll be interested to see how much it actually breaks canon though.

@Paulie_D i'm just hoping this sparks intrest in the franchise again and we get maybe more seasons of Atlantis or a new non space opera series

No way they'll revive SG1 or Atlantis. Maybe Universe but that's pretty doubtful. all the people involved have moved on. If it's fresh that's a good thing though.

@Paulie_D well with atlantis they don't need to bring back everyone because the key setting to it is now on earth

2:12 PM
anyone gonna go watch valerian this weekend?
@Memor-X part of why I lsot interest in star gate in general was that it became more about space warfare rather than space exploration

Two foreign gals asked me the way to a park and I didn't know that. When I looked it at Google Maps, I realized that it was the same park I already know. They just know it by different name. Uff me.

@AJ lol

Oh wait
> Each episode in the 10-part series—which will follow Catherine Langford, the daughter of the archaeologist who first discovered the Stargates, as she goes on a journey across space to protect Earth from a catastrophic threat—will be just 10 minutes long. And, stop me if you’ve heard this before, the series will form an exclusive part of MGM’s new Stargate-branded online streaming service, Stargate Command.

@DForck42 i didn't so much mind that myself.
@Paulie_D it wont be Ra which is a shame

Nah...no need to repeat Ra. It's been done.

2:23 PM
@Paulie_D but Ra was awesome

2:35 PM
@Paulie_D eww
@Memor-X it's just not what got me into the movie/show

Q: Why was Child 44 banned in Russia

D.AI was watching Child 44 on TV the other day, and it struck me as another Hollywood movie based on a Novel. The book is : Loosely based on the story of the real-life mass murderer Andrei Chikatilo, although the action is set decades before Chikatilo’s killings took place Source: The Guard...

Shubham JaiswalWhy did Bond end the psychiatric assessment when prompted with 'Skyfall' in word association? Shouldn't he simply have replied 'Home' etc.

Q: An old Japanese movie about love of father and baseball

Kyle SunI have seen an old Japanese movie about love of father and baseball. The main actor was on the train back home (maybe? I forgot) and he thoughts about his father when he was a kid. He was not getting along with his father and they quarrel a lot. Actually his father loved this kid but he was just ...

4:17 PM
@AJ what happen ?

A J
@AnkitSharma the killing scene is worse.

worse in which way?
Is it making you depress or the scene is not nicely filmed?

A J
Yep first part

ohhh

The most daunting fact is there's no shortages of these scenes in history @AJ

4:26 PM
@M.A.R. the real wtf is humanity...

A J
Movie is filmed nicely giving the atmosphere of that time.

The Nazis just gained some attention because Americans ended up being their enemies and winning the war

A J
I didn't get the real motive behind this.

Assyria was a major Mesopotamian East Semitic-speaking kingdom and empire of the ancient Near East and the Levant. It existed as a state from perhaps as early as the 25th century BC in the form of the Assur city-state, until its lapse between 612 BC and 599 BC, spanning the Early to Middle Bronze Age through to the late Iron Age. After its fall from power by the early 6th century BC, Assyria endured for the next thirteen centuries a geopolitical region and province of other empires, although between the mid-2nd century BC and late 3rd century AD a patchwork of small independent Assyrian kingdoms...

@M.A.R. Seriously....you seem to forget that the rest of Europe was fighting the Nazi for 2 years before the US got involved.

4:29 PM
The Assyrian empire has committed the literal worst war crimes of history
@Paulie_D well yeah, what does that have to do with anything? I'm not trying to cover up the hideous things Nazis did
I'm just saying they weren't the only people in history that did things like that
It's really hard to believe that the smartest beings on the planet did the worst things to each other

@M.A.R. because humans are more of jerk then smart

Q: How did Gwen die in Amazing spider man 2?

ashveliI remember the scene where Gwen falls from the Clock tower & Spider man uses his web to catch her before she touches the ground & he did catch her. But I still didn't get how she dies in the Amazing Spider Man 2.

Back to Assyrians, they even proudly made all the things they did to poor people of countries they conquered into stone
One great king proudly boasted in a document that he "silenced all human and animal cries of joy"
@AJ why?
Anyway, I think it's best to change the subject into something less disturbing

A J
yes please

@M.A.R. take my four legged freak nephew on a walk for me ?

4:43 PM
@AnkitSharma can he imagine me walking him?
@Ankit I was actually gonna recommend "Wreck-it Ralph" as the movie of the day

@M.A.R. I wish
@M.A.R. I like that film but watching it once was enough

Not every movie needs to be rewatchable
It just needs to be good

Wreck-it Ralph is good but I despise there plan for sequel
