@AJ I can name some more... all sorts of cocktails like Vesper, mojitos, some mule drink, whiskey, wine and he drinks Coke NEVER Pepsi!! Subway wraps, pickles. That's the food stuff that I can think of off the top of my head. He likes Miami Vice, Arrested Development, The Simpsons...those are the tv shows that I can think of off the top of my head. I feel like I'm going to get into trouble for forgetting something important ;)

There just seems to be inconsistent voting and VTC. Maybe it's like that on every site and I am just realising it more recently

@steelersquirrel down votes are generally opinion based though there are unjustifiable opinions. Close Votes ideally should be about either using the pre-set close votes which the custom ones really aught to link to meta or using the off-topic list defined in the help center which can list more off-topic reasons you can have the present reasons for

i think you only get like 4 pre-set reasons but you can use, like the tour, to store other reasons and copy and paste them into the custom close reason when you VTC

there's is also and addon for some browsers

It just sends mixed messages, especially to new users. I really thought that I had a firm grasp on what is off or on topic and it just seems like it's really confusing lately. Like, I rarely VTC anything anymore, because I simply don't know anymore and I am certainly not going to jump on a closing bandwagon just because a few others do.

@Memor-X Right. That's what down votes are for, but it seems like some users also throw on a close vote sometimes as well and that's where the confusion lies. Other community members see that and it sets a bad example for not only the OP, but for the other community members who vote.

That's why I always thought that you should have more rep before you're allowed to cast close votes. There should be a general community consensus on close voting that goes by policy, not opinion.

@steelersquirrel i DV and VTC when someone posts an off-topic question and has the badge for reading the tour because the point of that badge is that you're supposed to read the dam thing not skip to the bottom for a free badge. my reasoning for the DV is that research effort also count to reading rules that have been presented to you and a tour badge says they were

sometimes a downvote with a close vote can also come from wanting to discourage asking those questions and hoping to get an answer before it's closed which is why i also downvote id request answers on Anime and Manga (also falls under "not useful" since the id request would be removed)

@steelersquirrel opinion in the use of Close Votes probably comes from interpretation of the close vote reason. for instance with your id request guidelines, from my limited understanding (correct me if i am wrong) you just give a list of suggestions of what to include so....

Plot details of any scenes you remember - "an anime movie about mecha and a boy"
Descriptions of any characters or locations - "the boy is a whiny little bitch surrounded by girls"
Where you watched the movie or TV show - "at home in australia"
When you watched the movie or TV show - "at night on SBS"
Any idea of how old it was - "when i was a child"
Any idea of country of origin (if known) - "japan because it's anime"
Whether it was animated or not - "it's anime"
Any other distinctive detail - "there was a scene at the end of one episode of a woman having sex"

while low effort is really only downvote worthy but is it close worthy because they fill out the entire list?

some might say yes because it's low effort, some might say no because there's enough in there to id the series

That's exactly where the confusion lies. Some say yes and some say no. There needs to be a set policy on this or a re-iteration of what the policy is for the community, so that everyone can be on the same page when submitting close votes. As for me, I really don't have a clue anymore as to what's what ;)

That's why I rarely cast close votes anymore. Like I said, I thought that I had a firm grasp on things and the way that I have seen some voting go the past few months, I am just more confused, so I basically just skip everything in the queue unless it's a clear cut case.

I think that I saw one yesterday that a close vote for trivia was on it and Catija made a comment that it's not trivia and it shouldn't be closed as such. If she wouldn't have made that comment, I think that there would have been more close votes on it due to bandwagon close voting rather than actually reading the question and evaluating it as it should be.

I admittedly didn't look at the history on it, so I don't know, but I have seen that happen several times these past few months.

On a lighter note... Kickboxer is getting ready to start! Woohoo!!!
