Q: What exactly is the stuff in the middle of the Stargate?

cdeThe Stargate in Stargate, Stargate: SG-1, and it's derivatives, creates a wormhole between two Stargates, which most of the time has an unstable vortex kawoosh that tends to destroy anything that's sufficiently away from it's surface, before falling back in and leaving a mostly flat water or pool...

TetsujinI know identification questions can be difficult, but I just found this 'making of' showreel from Method Studios, which is in itself a wonderful 10 minute watch - but I realised I actually don't know which movies most of it is from. http://www.methodstudios.com/uploads/reel/video/7c8797eea81c9e4...

@DrRDizzle OK, I can't remember if you claimed to like Legend with Tom Hardy. I just watched it yesterday.
As always, Tom Hardy is frigging awesome, but I was expecting more of a British Goodfellas. It wasn't that great :(

1 hour later…
4:09 PM
OMG!! Lawless is on now!! I get to see my boyfriend, Tom Hardy two days in a row!! ;)

4:31 PM
My dad just stopped by my sister's house. He asked us if we were watching the debate tonight. I didn't even know that there was one. Are you watching @MattD?

4:45 PM
@steelerfan Nope. Don't plan to vote Republican, and I doubt anything they've said up to this point will be different from the last billion debates they've done. This one just won't have Carson.

@MattD Oh, I didn't know what debate it was. I'm still trying to come to grips with the fact that our next President will either be Trump or Clinton. Ugh.
Who do you think that Hillary will choose for her running mate?
My dad thinks that Trump will choose Christie.
I want him to choose Ted Nugent for entertainment purposes only. Hehehe :)

Apparently there's now calls for Christie to resign since he's endorsing Trump.

Haha! Oh my! My dad will be upset. He loves Trump.

5:00 PM
Meh, I'm just happy the theater my friend and I usually frequent finally has showtimes for Batman vs. Superman up, and I was able to snag us good seats for a much earlier showtime.

See! That's much more important than politics!! ;)

Yep. It'll also be the endcap to my first full week at the new job I landed.

What? You got the job? OMG!! I just thought that you interviewed!! I wasn't aware that you got it! Congratulations!!

@steelerfan Hah, that's on my Amazon Prime watchlist! Is it good?

@NapoleonWilson YOU'RE HERE!!! I'M SO HAPPY!! :)
@NapoleonWilson Well, I liked it. I love Tom Hardy's character in it. Pretty cool :)

5:18 PM
@steelerfan Thanks. I interviewed with the place that hired me a week ago today. Got a call last Friday while I was in another interview that they wanted to extend an offer. Worked out some details and accepted yesterday. I start on the 16th.
Other place I was interviewing at last Friday also likes me, but wanted me to take some test that was unneeded but I did anyway. Score was good enough for them, but they apparently still want to interview other candidates to be absolutely sure or whatever.

@steelerfan Aww, me too. I just had to read and answer my e-mails as fast as possible, since I went into a damn meeting right after seeing I had new mail... ;-)

Head hunter is kind of miffed because they didn't indicate they might want to do this, and I was the only candidate he sent over because he really wanted me to get the job.

@MattD WOOT!! Is your wife excited? Are you going to go celebrate?
@NapoleonWilson Hehehe:) sorry!

@MattD Congratulations!
@steelerfan Oh, why sorry, it's the light of my boring workday. ;-)

@MattD Great, Congratulations

5:24 PM
@NapoleonWilson Awwww, aren't you just too frigging awesome!

@steelerfan I have a Grater's gift card we plan to use tonight. :P

@MattD I have never heard of that place.

Graeter's is a regional chain of shops offering superpremium ice cream, baked goods, and candy which originated in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1870. Their thick ice cream has been featured on Food Network and has earned them many fans, including Oprah Winfrey, Harry Connick Jr, and influential food writers such as David Rosengarten of Rosengarten Report. It's been called "the best ice cream in the world," and "the best out there," and won "Best Sweet" at the 2014 Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival. == History == Graeter's was founded in 1870 by Bavarian immigrants Regina and Louis "Charlie...
Ice cream is basically my favorite dessert.

@MattD Whose isn't it?

@MattD I don't remember when the last time I had ice cream was. I don't really like dairy. I like frozen yogurt I guess.

5:31 PM
@NapoleonWilson Well I mean there's all types of desserts, and if you gave me an option I'd almost always choose ice cream.

@steelerfan Oh, right, yours isn't it... :'(

@steelerfan You live in PA, right?

I don't like milk or milk products. Coffee creamer is the only exception.
@MattD Nope. I'm in Oregon.

@steelerfan Wow, I'm way the hell off.

@steelerfan I don't like milk either (neither coffee creamer). I never liked to drink it, not even as a kid (well, maybe as an infant, but that's a different thing, I guess). But I like cheese in various varieties quite much.

5:33 PM
@MattD Meh. Just the wrong side of the country. Hehehe :)

@steelerfan Looks like 6 Quality Food Center locations in Portland are the only places that sell Graeter's products.

@MattD Hah, because Steelers, eh?

@NapoleonWilson Partly, but I could have swore I'd also seen her mention she lived there at one point.

@MattD Nope. My dad did. Not me :)
@MattD I haven't even heard of that brand. We have Alpenrose and Tillamook dairy here
My dad was raised in Pittsburgh. He moved to the Northwest after college. We were "Steelerized" from him ;)
@NapoleonWilson You don't like milk either? OMG! Yeah, I like cheese. I really like Feta cheese. I hate yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, sour cream, etc. I can eat frozen yogurt sometimes.

At least you like cheese. The others I can kinda sorta get, but if you hated cheese I was going to call you a witch.
My wife, sadly, doesn't like feta or blue cheeses, and isn't terribly fond of sharp cheeses.
Also doesn't like gorgonzola.

5:43 PM
I really, really, really can't eat bananas. I literally gag. I have to put them in a smoothie. I don't have much of a gag reflex, so I can't like physically gag, but bananas make me physically gag.

@steelerfan Hah, I love feta cheese. I don't like yoghurt that much either. I don't think I've ever tried frozen yoghurt, though.

@MattD Haha! Well, Feta cheese is one of the healthier cheeses. I can eat it out of the container.
@NapoleonWilson Feta cheese is frigging awesome!! I can't eat yogurt. It's another gag thing for me like bananas.

Hmm, I rarely eat bananas, but I definitely like 'em.

<gag>
;)

So, I assume frozen yoghurt is not just yoghurt that's frozen?

5:48 PM
I don't think so. With yogurt, it's a texture thing. Like tapioca pudding. Gag.

I don't like pudding either, or stuff that's too gelatinous.

Oh, Lord. I feel nauseous now ;)
@NapoleonWilson Oh, yeah!! Me too. I frigging hate pudding!

@steelerfan Well, maybe we should switch to discussing things we actually do like to eat then?

@NapoleonWilson It's all good. I already felt queasy before we started talking about this ;)

@steelerfan How can you (dis)like so many things I do? You're just not possible!

5:54 PM
@NapoleonWilson I don't know!! I didn't know that you disliked milk and pudding and stuff!! That's awesome!! Bonus!!

Ditto! Now you just gotta give up that damn coffee creamer! ;-(

GOD! I don't know if I could function without coffee creamer!! No!!!
My sister didn't have hazelnut coffee creamer!! I had to go to the store to get some!! Haha! I gotta have it!!

;-)
Well, I for one am eating celery stalks right now.

You should have seen the fit that I threw at work because those fools didn't replenish the coffee creamer!! I made a fresh pot of Dunkin Donuts coffee, I open the fridge, shock, horror, dismay!! NO COFFEE CREAMER!! Chaos ensued!! ;)

6:02 PM
@NapoleonWilson I'm drinking coffee and not even wanting food. I keep waking up nauseous :(

@steelerfan Hmm, didn't you say you wanted to go to the doctor for that? (Or was it more the martinis this time?)

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I'm going on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure I know what it is. Nothing major, just a hassle ;) Haha! I only had 2 martinis. I was good 0:)

6:25 PM
Looks like pre-orders are up for The Force Awakens.

Pre-orders for what?

The home video release.

Oh. I will just watch when it comes on HBO.

Best Buy has an exclusive steelbook version I'm kind of tempted by.
And Target has exclusive packaging and 20 minutes of extras that aren't in any other version of the home video release.

Well, anything with the word "steel" in it is alright with me ;)

I don't like steelbooks or specially packed versions really. I want the DVDs/BluRays in my shelf to all look the same. I just don't like them interrupted by steel or paper boxes.

I'm not fully sure about the steelbook version. It's $5 more than the standard, and if they don't get steelbook versions for the subsequent films it'll look awkward on my shelf.
@NapoleonWilson By paper boxes, do you mean the slipcovers?

Pfft!

From the few collertors editions that came in an external paper box I usually just threw away the paper box and put the classic plastic cases into the shelf as is.

I like slipcovers on my movies.

6:33 PM
@MattD Or boxes where the plastic cases are in an external paper case, like when it's multiple cases. E.g. my Harry Potter collection.

My Tower of Disney has all slipcovers. Even paid a guy $8 via eBay for the one for Mulan because mine came without it.
I have to agree that the cover designs for the home video release are pretty lousy.

@MattD That's the biggest problem I eschew from a bit. Buying a solo version of something that will once be a completed series anyway. I'd rather buy it when it's completed then.

They should use the poster design.
@NapoleonWilson Well, Disney only makes a certain number with slipcovers for retail release. There's apparently a number you can call to get them if your copy lacks it, or it was damaged in some way, but only if they still have some in back stock.
Initially all copies have the slipcover, and then they start shipping ones that don't. I'm trying to build a collection so I'm quite anal about them all having slips.

I always considered a James Bond collection. But I don't really want to buy a pre-made collection now, since you'd then have the following movies as standalone additions, which'd be awful. Rather that that I'd just have only standalones. Would be great if they offered collections for each separate actor.

@NapoleonWilson I could have swore they did?
I have the Bond 50 collection, including Skyfall, so I'm good overall.

6:37 PM
@MattD Well, I admittedly never looked for it throughly either, maybe they do.

And word has it Daniel Craig isn't going to continue as Bond, so yeah.

I need to look through my collection and see if I'm missing anything that's been released recently.
Looks like there might be a slowdown as Disney brings out some of their vaulted movies in a new signature collection. Really tempted to "upgrade" some.

Tom Hardy is the next Bond.
At least in my warped sense of reality he is the next Bond ;)

Meh, I'm not a big BluRay buyer. In the past I largely just bought older cult things I hand't seen on TV for too long. I rarely buy new stuff. But I did get meself Fury Road. And maybe I have to buy The Martian, too. Though, I finally started and (almost) completed a Nolan collection when I got me a BluRay player. And I finally started a Mann collection too, with one of his best works.

6:42 PM
As much as I might like to get it through Target for the extra features, I have $10 in rewards certs at Best Buy so that appears to be the best avenue.

My Carpenter collection is still largely DVD, though as is my Hill collection. But that's quite in its infancy still anyway. Hell, it doesn't even contain Southern Comfort yet, for shame!

Lots of friends and family have moved over to buying their movies digitally via Amazon or iTunes or Google and whatnot.

@steelerfan Or Henry Cavill?

I just can't bring myself to buy things like movies or even music at this point on digital.
For music I just use Spotify, and I like to own my movies and see them on a shelf, not as some digital collection on a screen that can be lost of the company folds or decides to not do movies anymore.
I still only have The Lord of the Rings trilogy on DVD, and they still play just as well as the days I got each of them.

@NapoleonWilson OMG!! Yes!!

6:47 PM
Hah, Lord of the Rings I still got on VHS!
As is The Phantom Menace and the classic trilogy. Wait, Attack of the Clones, too.

@NapoleonWilson Depending on how old those VHS copies are, they could be worth a good deal.

At some point I might have to get me a full Star Wars Bluray collection just for having it.

I have the complete Star Wars saga on Blu-ray, the first version they put out.
Got it for half off at Barnes & Noble because their clerks were letting people use a coupon to pre-order something 6 months out when they shouldn't have been. :D

@MattD Uhuh. Why that? It's the Extended Versions. Hell, they're two-part each and you have to actually switch cassettes mid-movie. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson OMG!! You are so frigging awesome for still having something on VHS!!

6:50 PM
@steelerfan I made the switch to DVD rather late, the same for BluRay, just a year ago.

@NapoleonWilson The versions released in the 80s are the non-Special Edition cuts of the film. To the right buyer you could make a pretty penny, or, Euro. :P

@MattD Oh, I thought you were talking about LotR.

@NapoleonWilson I still have stuff on VHS too :)

@MattD No, the Star Wars collection is the '97 Special Edition (though, with the old force ghost still, if only that). But that was when I got into Star Wars anyway.

My parents bought into DVD around 2000 or 2001 I think, and I bought my own VHS/DVD combo player around 2002.
I bought into Blu-ray when I bought a PS3, and a few days after that I bought my first HDTV.
They were my gift to myself for graduating college and landing a good job. :D

6:52 PM
@steelerfan I also have In the Mouth of Madness on VHS because the DVD was just too expensive, but I recently got me that on BluRay.

@NapoleonWilson OMG! The one with Sam Neill?

I also thank myself for realizing the benefits of widescreen presentation in home video before I started to buy my own DVDs. Can't imagine how crappy my collection would be if it were all full screen, pan-and-scan versions now.

And I also have The Resurrected (1991) on English VHS, simply because I really liked The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and wanted to find some kind of cinematic version of it.

I need to ransack my parent's basement at some point and find the bin they put a bunch of the VHS tapes we had growing up. We had a pretty sizable collection of Disney movies.

@steelerfan Of course. You might have noticed I have a thing for Carpenter. But it's a really good film IMHO. And as a bonus I usually like Sam Neill very much.

6:55 PM
Those bad boys.

@NapoleonWilson Yes, I noticed that you have a "Thing" for Carpenter. (no pun intended) :) I frigging love Sam Neill!!

We own a few too. But my parents kept most of the VHS tapes as they were theirs (or well, my mother's actually). Millions of Bruce Willis things. But also some Disney films.
@steelerfan ;-)

@MattD Haven't seen them all
Nice collection

@NapoleonWilson Chris Sarandon, right? faints

@steelerfan I think so. Haven't watched that for ages. I didn't know it at all before actively going looking for it.

6:59 PM
@AnkitSharma Those aren't mine, just an example image of the old VHS packaging Disney used.
I remember seeing movie shelf listings in ads and they would have a separate number for how many Disney VHS tapes they could hold because the packaging was so much larger.

ohhh

@NapoleonWilson I will have to watch with you while not drinking milk and not eating pudding together ;)

Awwww, I only have $5 in reward cards at Best Buy, but they expire in a few days so it's good I learned about it now.

@steelerfan \o/

OMG!! My sister fell back asleep!! What a wuss! ;)

@steelerfan Because you don't entertain her, talking to fake internet people all the time (not that you should change that). ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Well, my dad came over this morning and woke her up and then she went to go watch Survivor on DVR, so I went in the other room so I wouldn't have to watch it. I go in her room and she's asleep!! ;) You're not fake!! You're very real! Well, I could leave and go wake her up if you prefer ;)

Aww, don't! :'(
;-*

I won't, silly bean :)
I might go jump on the bed, though ;)
evil laugh
You should have seen my dad when he walked in this morning...."What in the hell were you two up to lastnight?" Hehehe :) She's the one that stayed up with her neighbors. I was asleep by like 7:30. 0:)

7:28 PM
Hehe. When's you brother in law and the kids coming back? Do you stay another night?

He's coming back today. I'm leaving as soon as she wakes up. I have to work Noc shift tonight, so I am going home until it's time to leave for work.
I work Noc shift tonight and tomorrow night!! DJ Steelerfan in the early morning hours!! Woot!

God Dammit! I gotta go. Be back shortly. Ugh.

@NapoleonWilson I've updated the bounty ad to the new dimension guidelines. Apologies for the delay, I was not the original author. The link is still the same as previous years.

Q: What Is the Material of Captain America's Shield?

Asim HaiderI had seen the movie, but i didn't get the name and the description that what is the material of Captain America's shield ?

8:50 PM
First official photo of the Power Rangers cast.

Eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Only one of those kids is actually a teenager, but not at an age you'd normally find in high school.
Also interested in it because Elizabeth Banks is playing Rita Replusa.
Man, some of them were born around the time the series originally began airing in the US, though.

9:31 PM
the girl second from the left looks familiar.

Indeed.

@MovieReel Gotta love the double standard, folks.
A bad 1-line ID Q would've been on hold in 2 minutes.

@Walt Like flagging for low quality instead of close-voting?

@NapoleonWilson Couldn't decide on a reason
Trivia?

everyone one of those kids looks vaguely like someone else.

9:37 PM
But this is not the first obviously bad non-ID 1-liner that's been answered and upvoted for no reason lately. Some of them have gone on to become HNQs, again for no reason. I really wish we'd hold non-ID up to the same standards we hold ID.

I'm inclined to agree. The question in, well, question, is 100% easily searchable via Google. OP either knows this and is attempting to earn easy points, and/or made absolutely no effort to research the matter himself.

@MattD It's worse than that, it's in the movie. If you missed a line or a scene, we're not really here to fill in those blanks. Watch it all the way first.

you can't put lmgtfy in a comment?

Hah! Seems my clean movie poster image source is back in free watermark-less mode! \o/

huh. the first google hit is a link to SF&F

@MattD Blech, now a movie?

wonder if that's just me.

@Mike Google adapts itself to you.

@Walt It's being handled by Lionsgate. I think it could be decent.

9:48 PM
@Mike It is. Mine's a few sites of Wiki stuff.

pfft.

Lemme guess, the SciFi people loved it.

@MattD Yeah, well, Trank was considered a promising choice too. I think I know how this ends

with Trank making a halfway decent movie, getting fired at the end, having an anonymous idiot come behind him and reshoot the last 1/3, sloppily splice together a half-ass story that makes no sense, and flopping at the box office?

@Mike Kinda, yeah. Only with a villain named Rita Repulsa. :(

9:55 PM
who will disappear at the end of act 1 and only show back up during the final rushed 10 minutes?
maybe they'll make it R-rated

@Mike And answerers so preoccupied with the fact that they could, that they don't stop to think if they should :P

@Mike No, because be nice and stuff.
@Walt Was this supposed to be a Jurassic Park quote?

@NapoleonWilson You have to ask? :O You'd be hard pressed to find a single comment I make here that isn't a quote

@Walt But not all of 'em are from Jurassic Park.

@NapoleonWilson Sure. I'm not a huge fan of it anyway

10:04 PM
Uhuh.

@NapoleonWilson ...Except for quotes :P
Anyway, I have a better Spielberg film on pause ATM
Went to get a snack and passed by the screen

@Walt Which would be...?

@NapoleonWilson The only one I truly admire
The trio get on the boat just now

Uhuh. Sure, seen that last weekend.

@NapoleonWilson Always a good idea
Off to see the rest. Farewell and adieu to you, fair Chatty laddies :)

10:12 PM
@Walt Meh, sure.

10:35 PM
Oh, no. I missed Walt :(
@NapoleonWilson What gives? I come back and everyone leaves but you ;)

Q: Is the Night watch Crows to the Stark Wolves supposed to imply a "wolf-bird" relationship?

cdeThe raven/crow is sometimes called a Wolf-bird due to the symbiotic relationship they have with wolves. @steelerfan Don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They don't like me (or you)?

@NapoleonWilson Well, I like you :)

@steelerfan Aww, you know I know that (which is not to say I don't appreciate you saying it).

@NapoleonWilson I drank too much coffee this morning and now I am wide awake and can't sleep ;)

@steelerfan Don't you have noc anyway?

@NapoleonWilson Not until 11pm. So, I wanted to sleep for a few hours. I'M WIDE AWAKE AND I CAN'T LAY STILL!! Haha! Coffee Buzz!

11:05 PM
@steelerfan Oh, well that's late indeed.

Noc shift is 11pm-7am. When everyone around here is asleep except for Ankit ;)

Hmm, I'd normally be awake at that time during week, too. But tomorrow I've got quite a few meetings. :'(

Bummer :'(

And now I can't seem to find something to say as long as you're still here. And that when I'm so glad you showed up. ;-)

You don't have to say anything, babe! I'm just watching a movie trying to get sleepy and failing miserably ;)

11:15 PM
@steelerfan And which?

@NapoleonWilson Money Train

Oh.
Hmm, I could try to sing you asleep, but I'm not sure how that would go over in chat.

Haha!! Oh, really? What exactly would you sing?

I don't know, any preferences?

Oh, God. I don't know. My mind is drawing a complete blank right now. Argh!

Q: What is the longest running TV role for a child actor?

Dennis WilliamsonWhat is the longest running TV role for an actor who started in the role as a child (regardless of their age at the end of their role)? I'm especially interested in those that were part of the main cast and/or appeared in the majority of episodes rather than an occasional recurring role.

> And if that lucky charm won't do, Mama's out of ideas for you.
@steelerfan Ok, I'll stop. Don't really know much more anyway. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson OMG!! That was enough!! The awesomeness of that sent me hyperventilating!!! That was like......like.....I have no words.....which is rare ;)

Oh god, thanks! It wasn't that great, though. ;-)

Uhm, it was great to me :)
