Son of Daviddo you have a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? The Son of God. Q: Is Dusty the doctor that Royal did malpractice work for?

Josh CaswellIn The Royal Tenenbaums, we meet "Dusty" (Seymour Cassel) as an elevator operator at the Royal Palace Hotel. He seems to have a very congenial relationship with Royal Tenenbaum. Later, Royal asks for "Dr. McClure" to be called to the house to respond to a medical incident. Dusty shows up, in a wh...

A J
@steelerfan Hey there :)

@AJ How was your weekend?

A J
Pretty good. Yours?

I had a great weekend! Glad to be back :)

A J
I took a full day rest after the most busiest week.

5:13 AM
Oh, good for you :)

A J
@steelerfan What did you do on your weekend?

@AJ I went down to Palm Springs for a Paul McCartney concert. It was awesome :)

A J
@steelerfan Paul McCartney. Wow.

@AJ Yeah. It was really good. It was like an outdoor festival kind of thing. 2nd best concert that I have ever been to!

Q: Why did the Blair Witch need James and Lisa to look at it in order to kill them?

pacoverflowAt the end of Blair Witch, James tells Lisa that if they don't look at the Blair Witch, then it can't kill them. James, who was facing the corner, ended up being tricked by the Blair Witch, who used Heather's voice to make him turn around. At that point he presumably saw the Blair Witch and met...

@AJ Where is Ankit?

A J
@steelerfan Don't know. He was here yesterday. Maybe busy with work, or sleeping. ;)

@AJ Okay :)
@AnkitSharma Where are you?

Q: How car drag scenes are filmed without hurting anyone?

A JMany movies have scenes where a man is tied to rope which is tied from a vehicle and he is dragged for a while. Road usually have rough surface and may contain obstructions like stones. If a person falls from his vehicle on the road, he gets several injuries. So, how do they film car drag scene...

Yep

A J
Nothing ;P

Phew. Got my Kate Winslet question done. Woot!

Perhaps I should have put "consummated" instead of "sex" I don't know.
I can go all medieval and use "carnal relations" :P

7:36 AM
"I have... known her"

Hehe!
@MovieReel Nice! Good question :)
Wow. We actually have good questions on the front page!! Woot!

@steelerfan cleaning office mess created when I was not here

@AnkitSharma ANKIT!!! YOU'RE HERE!! YAY!!

Why someone have back to old name new name

Are you referring to Napoleon Chris?

7:50 AM
yes

I don't know. I guess that he doesn't want to be moderator in chat anymore.

Can't get that decision

There's been a lot of kerfuffle over in the other room lately. He probably just wants to step away for a while. I don't blame him.
I can't speak for him, but I don't think that it has anything to do with this room. I don't know.
Sometimes things get heated over there. There are alot of different types of personalities. He is being the mature one and stepping away from it for a while, which is commendable.

That's why I never watch Jersey Shore

No need to. Just go into Mos :P
It's not that bad, but there are always certain people that will just never agree on anything and sometimes things get heated and blown out of proportion. You know how it is ;)
@AnkitSharma How was your weekend?

@AJ YAY! Congrats!

A J
My flags will be converted into votes.

Oh, you couldn't VTC before?

A J
@steelerfan Yep. Now I can.

YAY!
@DrRDizzle I just noticed that you asked a question about Steve Jobs. Did you like that movie?
Also, has anyone seen The Big short?
I watched it in my hotel room one night. It was okay. Really confusing, but still interesting.

A J
8:45 AM
@steelerfan never heard.

I didn't really like how they portrayed the people that made billions off of the collapse of the housing market into heroes...but, okay.
Maybe Dizzle has seen it.

A J
@steelerfan It has my favorite actors, and got good ratings. Perhaps worth watching.

@steelerfan I did indeed, it's really very good.
@steelerfan I have indeed, that too is pretty good.

A J
I need your review for The Big Short.

If a film has came out in the last couple of years and you want to know what I think about it, there is a good chance you can just Google the name of the film and the word "screennerds" in order to find it.

8:57 AM
@steelerfan bit tiring

@DrRDizzle Did you like the portrayal of him?

@steelerfan did you just missed the point or teasing me

@steelerfan I don't know enough about Steve Jobs IRL to say if it was an accurate portrayal or not, so all I can really say is that I thought Micheal Fassbender gave a really great performance.

@AnkitSharma I was just teasing you. I'm sorry that your weekend was tiring :(

@steelerfan wedding dance and all other stuff
Reception was on Saturday , so we only got Sunday to rest a bit

8:59 AM
@DrRDizzle I thought that Steve Carell was great :)

But tomorrow is holiday

What holiday?

Vijayadashami (Sanskrit: विजयदशमी) also known as Dussehra (Sanskrit: दशहरा) or Ayudhapuja (Sanskrit: आयुधपूजा), is an important Hindu festival celebrated in a variety of ways in India, Nepal "Dussehra" is derived from Sanskrit; Dasha-hara is a form of Dashanan ravan ("Ravana's defeat"). The day marks the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura. The goddess fought with evil for ten days and nine nights. Indian festival related to Ramayana and Durga goddess both

Oh, cool!

@steelerfan For sure. I've seen Carell in a number of more dramatic roles over the last few years, and he's always impressive. I thought Ryan Gosling was pretty great too.

9:01 AM
Not my kind of festival, I used to like it when I was kid but not now
But I don't mind getting an off \o/

@DrRDizzle Nice review!

@steelerfan meh

@AnkitSharma Did you see that movie?

No
But I just don't like him
Fassbender is good

I really liked Steve Carrel's character in this movie.

9:04 AM
@AJ kudos
@steelerfan k
@steelerfan +1

I need to watch the rest of Steve Jobs. He was just kind of an ass and I wasn't really interested in watching him become a multi-bazillionnaire ;)
@AnkitSharma Thank you, sir :)

@steelerfan Thanks lol

Has anyone else even participated in that challenge?

I have no question on kate
I don't really even like her

A J
@steelerfan Perhaps you're first.

9:06 AM
Poor Kate Beckinsale can't make it

@DrRDizzle I'm totally serious. Your reviews are always so well written and insightful. I read every one of them even if I don't like the movie :)

@steelerfan I haven't looked into main site from days

A J
@AnkitSharma Poor v?

@AnkitSharma Well, I admittedly like Beckinsale better.

@steelerfan blushes

9:07 AM
;)

If my ego weren't already big enough, I'd star that message.

@AJ lol, fixed

Hehehe!

@steelerfan same here
@DrRDizzle I do like your writing, even when I don't agree with ur opinion most of the time.
But frankly I didn't read your latest ones

Dizzle and Rand need to be speech writers for the royal family or something.
Wait. Does the royal family even make speeches?

9:11 AM
@steelerfan But I can't agree with them most of the time :P

@AnkitSharma Haha! Of course not ;)

Looks like Rans is posting his sarah chronicle questions on SFF now

I'm always afraid when I see that guy post questions.

I hope he behave this time over there at-least
@steelerfan don't worry for a year here ;)

@AnkitSharma Yes. Thank God :)

A J
9:16 AM
@AnkitSharma I doubt his nationality. Sometimes he speaks broken Hindi.
KyloRen has 12 questions out of 50 on first page.

@AJ he ask very basis and hypothetical question a lot which work there and looks like he is not creating any trouble too, so good for SFF

@AJ He's seeking downvotes...at least he was the other day. I think it just depends on what kind of mood he is in ;)

@steelerfan hopefully not drunk

I noticed that Rathony guy was getting into a little bit of a comment thing on meta. He's the same guy who got in a heated comment war with Wad over at Sports.SE

Not following anything much this days
too stuck with non SE stuff

9:21 AM
@AnkitSharma Yeah. I have seen his behavior in chat at times. He has always been pleasant with me, but, I wouldn't want to even attempt to get into that dog fight when he is on one of his rants.

and also trying to catch pending TV series and films

Well, I am just bored right now...and wide awake ;)

@steelerfan I though you are in night shift
You should sleep now

@AnkitSharma Nope. I only had to work until 11pm. I am just wide awake. My sleeping schedule got messed up this weekend. I am sure that I will get tired soon.

hmmm
Now time to check missed out posts

9:45 AM
@Walt Quick ID:
A movie in which bodies of a boy and girl are swapped and they live each other's life for a while. In the end, they fall in love and their bodies are swapped again. This swap thing happens in a church or some place that has a statue of some god.

@AJ Is it a boy and girl or a man and woman?

A J
@steelerfan a man and woman, about 25-30 years old.
Do you know which one is it?

@AJ Hmmmm...I was gonna say Prelude to a kiss, but Meg Ryan's character was swapped with that of an old man, not her fiance's body. No, I don't know, then. Sorry.

A J
@steelerfan It was a new movie, released b/w 2005-13.

@AJ Why don't you ask on the main site?

A J
9:51 AM
@steelerfan Lack of plot details.

Gotcha.

A J
Though I know other things.

Like what?

A J
Release year, language, genre, country of origin etc.
But I have only plot details mentioned earlier.

That seems like a main plot point of the movie, though.

@AJ YAY!

@steelerfan The Queen does, on Christmas Day.

@DrRDizzle Ahhhh...well, there you go. You and Rand can write her speech for her ;)

Knowing the fact that Rand and I agree on quite a number of things politically that might be a little controversial coming from the Queen, I don't think we'd have the job for very long ;P

A J
@steelerfan It is a good movie though. And only one and half hour long.
Hmm wondering what @Walt would say?

10:01 AM
@DrRDizzle Sure. It would make things interesting, though. The Royal family is just too boring nowadays ;)

@steelerfan I agree, but don't let my girlfriend catch you saying that. She'd lop off our heads without a second thought.

Hehehe!
I want Harry to become king and declare himself Henry IX. That would be AWESOME!

A J
@DrRDizzle As far I know, only Queen doesn't require any passport and visa to visit another country.

It would never happen, but it would be great!

@AJ Her ID is the fact that she's on every single piece of our currency lol.

10:04 AM
How lame will it be if stupid ol' Charles and Camilla are on the throne? Ugh.

If I were Charles, I'd accept the throne for just one day before passing it on to whats-his-face. Hold the record for shortest ever reign.

Totally!
I mean, don't you guys want a breath of fresh air from the monarchy?
Aren't you tired of seeing old, lame people on the throne?

@steelerfan They don't really do anything though. The Queen legally holds a lot of power, but if she ever actually tried to use any of it, she'd be roundly ignored.
They're a tourist trap more than anything now.

@DrRDizzle Yeah, but I thought that you guys loved your royal family over there or is that just something that we Americans are led to believe?
I am confused why the royal family is financed by tax payers when they really hold no purpose.
<yawn> I'm finally getting tired. Time for sleep :)

@steelerfan I think the country is pretty evenly split.
@steelerfan I believe that they bring in more money than they cost.
Night.

A J
10:14 AM
@steelerfan good night.

@steelerfan Good night.

A J
You came and she left. ;)
Puzzling is removing users these days. Reps are being affected much.

@AJ Yeah, she probably doesn't like me anymore. ;-)
@steelerfan Hehe, see! Wait for the fresh ones, they're even more amazing!
@steelerfan Me, it was quite nice. I actually watched it on the flight to Vegas.
@steelerfan I thought Margot Robbie was great. ;-P

10:31 AM
@AJ I know this but you already got it I suppose

A J
@AnkitSharma I did.

@AJ I like it

A J
@AnkitSharma Yes me too.

@DrRDizzle holy moly

A J
Nowadays on social media

10:36 AM
@DrRDizzle wow
@AJ agreed
@DrRDizzle like Indian president

A J
@AnkitSharma Very much so.

@steelerfan good night
@ChristianRau of-course :p
@ChristianRau Margot Robbie is hawt, not sure about greatness ;)

A J
Interesting fact
3 ships were perished at the same location at Coast of Wales on the same day(5th Dec), and all of them had one survivor whose name were also same, Hugh Williams.

Did heard about it before
Maybe he is a time travelling robot

A J
@AnkitSharma maybe
Something like Triangle.

10:53 AM
@AnkitSharma Really? I would have assumed that the President was the guy in charge.

@DrRDizzle In India president have power which he rarely used , prime minister is the one who do things which matter
Holy shit I forgot bounty reward post

@AnkitSharma That's interesting. Is the President elected, or is it a bloodline type thing?

@DrRDizzle picked by govt
Nothing go by bloodline here

@AnkitSharma Yeah, same here.

holy shit SE query page capcha irritating me

11:04 AM
The president is like the Queen. He's only called when there's a mall to inaugurate or a funeral to be held.

President can cancel death sentence or reduce imprisonment time

@AnkitSharma You have the death sentence in India?

A J
@DrRDizzle Yep. And there is also a TV show in which a character always says this in the end, "You will get the death sentence.".
It doesn't matter what the crime is.

Huh, for some reason I assumed that India wouldn't.

@DrRDizzle yes
Capital punishment is a legal penalty in India. It has been carried out in 5 instances since 1995, while a total of 26 executions have taken place in India since 1991. The Supreme Court in Mithu vs. State of Punjab struck down Section 303 of the Indian Penal Code, which provided for a mandatory death sentence for offenders serving a life sentence. The number of people executed in India since independence in 1947 is a matter of dispute; official government statistics claim that only 52 people had been executed since independence. However, research by the People's Union for Civil Liberties indicates...
@AJ I am sure that show sucks

A J
11:11 AM
@AnkitSharma Yes, it does very much. And I am sure you know the name of that show.

Generally speaking, are the Indian public in support of the death penalty then?

Adalat?
@DrRDizzle yes I suppose but those activist say otherwise

@AJ hahaha, got it
That dumb fucking lame show

user116211
@DrRDizzle I'm not it in favor of it.

user116211
11:16 AM
@AnkitSharma The quality of the show has really deteriorated; but I really liked the genuine episodes back in 2000s.

@MAFIA36790 why not? What about serial killers? rapists?

user116211
@AnkitSharma Hanging them is the solution?

I want torturing methods but from the available ones hanging can work for me

Torture is inhumane, as is the death penalty. What about people wrongly convicted?

user116211
@AnkitSharma Capital punishment doesn't really work.

11:23 AM
Bad peoples need to be punished

user116211
It's not French Revolution that you use guillotine...

Terrorists , rapist, serial killer are better to be dead

user116211
or some commie revolution that slays all people irrespective of class.

@AnkitSharma OK, let's assume that's true for a second. What about innocent people who are wrongly convicted of those crimes?

@MAFIA36790 I will consider them terrorist

user116211
11:26 AM
I know commies are terrorists.

It's estimated that the false conviction rate is about 4%. That means that for every 20 people you execute, 1 of them was actually innocent.

@DrRDizzle so punish no one because someone might be wrongly stuck there?

user116211
@AnkitSharma That's wrong though.

@AnkitSharma You can let someone out of prison if you find out they shouldn't be there. You can't unkill them.

More innocent die by the hand of bad people
You kept a terrorist in prison and his partner abduct a dozen people to make you leave them....now what?

11:33 AM
Then you arrest his partner too.

tea break.........will be back soon

user116211
Hanging does neither amend the wrong nor end the cirme.

Innocent people being killed by bad people doesn't make the fact that innocent people are being wrongly killed by the state any better.

@ChristianRau As did I. That was one of my favorite parts ;)

Hehe!

11:37 AM
OMG. You guys are talking about the death penalty? Is this Mos? ;)

I'm not.

user116211
The whole discussion seems to be futile though.

Q: Why was the correct and accepted answer deleted?

Jan DoggenIt seems there was a correct answer under Movie about ability to touch objects and know its past. Since I can't see who wrote it, I hesitate to recreate it - after all is was user John who came up with the solution.

11:38 AM
Yeah...just like discussions in Mos :P

user116211
@steelerfan So, Mos is the hub of politics ;D

@MAFIA36790 It's the hub of "interesting" topics ;)

To be fair, I was never under the impression that we were finally going to come up with a solution to the death penalty problem in The Screening Room.

@DrRDizzle Hahahahaha!
Hey, you guys talk about what you want. Doesn't bother me ;)
@ChristianRau Awwww. That's just not possible :)

user116211
So, Let's talk about Trump!

11:41 AM
Let's not.
2

Oh, God.
Himarm already got into some debate in Mos last night. Nothing good ever comes of talking about this frigging election ;)

user116211
You guys talked about the Royal Family!

Have I already mentioned how immature and annoying the new wannabe Darth Vader is? :P

user116211
Hmm, they are too normal to deserve any discussion on them.

The current royal family is lame ;)

user116211
11:52 AM
The only thing they do is some international tours; and nothing else.

Yeah. That's why I don't get why they are so important. They serve no purpose other than tourism. I guess that's an important part of England's economy, though. I don't know.

user116211
Many commonwealth countries are thinking of ditching the Queen.

Just because she serves no purpose anymore?

user116211
She is nothing but freaking old lady who is, in name, a queen who virtually has no power.

user116211
Nevertheless, she is still considered an image of England.

user116211
11:58 AM
But who cares now.

Exactly. Soon, there will be a freaking old man who is, in name, a king who virtually has no power ;)

user116211
@steelerfan This will never happen.

@steelerfan ... in the movie, or in mos eisley?

@KutuluMike Hehehe! I just happened to reiterate my feelings on that character due to recent events ;) Good Lord!

@steelerfan Says the girl whose primary interest in England are royal families. ;-P

user116211
12:02 PM
@ChristianRau Is it so?

@ChristianRau Only through the Tudor dynasty. I don't really care that much after that ;)

user116211
@ChristianRau: Do you know Keiser Wilhelm's family still exists and still bears the tag royal family...

user116211
of Germany or Austria or Hungary? I doubt that.

@MAFIA36790 He didn't even know what Krampus was! ;)
In Austro-Bavarian Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat, half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. Regions in Austria feature similar figures and, more widely, Krampus is one of a number of Companions of Saint Nicholas in regions of Europe. The origin of the figure is unclear; some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated a pre-Christian origin for the figure (see Germanic paganism). In traditional parades and in such events...

user116211
@steelerfan Holy crap ;P

user116211
12:08 PM
@steelerfan There was a film on this too.

@MAFIA36790 Yeah. I just watched it the other night. I asked him if he was familiar with it because he lives in Germany. He was not familiar...just sayin' ;)

user116211
@steelerfan Goat is a symbolism of satanism.

@ChristianRau Is Krampus German for hooves or hoof or something?

@steelerfan No.

@ChristianRau Well, then the movie sucks;)

12:12 PM
@steelerfan Well, it's apparently Middle High German or Bavarian for claws.

@ChristianRau What in the heck is middle high German in comparison to "regular" German?

@steelerfan An old historical form of it.
Middle High German is the German language between 1050 and 1350. It is preceded by Old High German and followed by Early New High German. In some uses, the term covers a longer period, going up to 1500. The Middle Low German and Middle Dutch areas in the North are not covered by MHG. While there is no standard MHG, the prestige of the Hohenstaufen court gave rise in the late 12th century to a supra-regional literary language (mittelhochdeutsche Dichtersprache) based on Swabian, an Alemannic dialect. However, the picture is complicated by the fact that modern editions of MHG texts have a tendency...

user116211
@ChristianRau Do you know it?

@MAFIA36790 No.

user116211
Is the language dead or still used?

12:14 PM
I guess I can make some sense of it when I have to, but it's not really something I'd call myself able to read and write.
@MAFIA36790 It's not used anymore, it was used in the middle ages and then developed into the current language.

user116211
okay.

@ChristianRau Also, the Grandmother in that movie was speaking German. There are a few parts where it is not subtitled in English for some reason. I will need you to translate this immediately ;)

@steelerfan I don't have the movie at hand, though.

@ChristianRau I know, silly. I'm just messing with you, anyways. One of these days when you see it, you can tell me :)

@steelerfan Unless I see it in German anyway and don't know which parts you're talking about. ;-)

12:19 PM
@ChristianRau Well, she talks in German and it's a part that's not subtitled...like the restaurant scene in The Godfather...which has always annoyed me! ;)

And it depends if she is really talking High German or some more Alpine dialect like Bavarian, which I might not be able to make much sense of either.

@ChristianRau Well, the internet says that she's speaking German.

Sure, but if I really want to, I can speak in a way that people in the same country would have difficulties understanding me, too.

How is that?

We just have many different dialects.

Would you speak in that gibberish-like language that you use in here sometimes? ;)

Oh shit, this reminds me of a question that I've been meaning to ask for ages now. So, @ChristianRau, maybe you can help me. In Inglorious Basterds, is Micheal Fassbender's character doing the "wrong" hand gesture for three really that big a give away that he isn't really German?

@DrRDizzle Oh, that thing. Well, it wasn't for me, I never ever noticed that difference before. But I also heard from other people that they knew it before. To be honest, I don't really know. I guess in that situation maybe, but I personally never was aware of it.

@ChristianRau So if you were to gesture for "three", would it be three fingers, are two fingers and a thumb?

It was a nice trick in the context of the movie, as that difference definitely exists, even if it might have been played to more significance than it actually has for the sake of the movie.
@DrRDizzle two fingers and a thumb. As I said, that difference indeed exists. But I wouldn't ever have conciously noticed it.

@ChristianRau OK coo', thanks very much for answering. It's nice to know that it's based in reality at least somewhat.

I only learned from that movie how weirdly those Englishpeople count.

Chris is brilliant. Enough said.

@ChristianRau What'd you mean?
(It's really weird not typing "@Nap" and hitting "tab" in order to ping you, by the way.)

We Americans start off with the index finger.

@DrRDizzle The whole starting with index thing.

@DrRDizzle I know, right?

Q: German way of gesturing 3 in Inglourious Basterds?

Downey_HUffHow true is that., when i googled I don't find much info about that. Is that made up for film or do Germans gesture like that.

As always, Movies & TV knows the answers!

See, if I were to count on my fingers, I start with the thumb. But if I were to gesture a number, I start with the index finger. Odd.

Q: How could Lt. Hicox fluently speak German and then give himself away by using the wrong gesture?

sharptoothIn Inglorious Basterds Lt. Hicox is an English officer who speaks German fluently yet with a mild accent. Speaking a language fluently requires a lot of practice with native speakers and so spending a lot of time with them. So I'd expect that he should know German culture well enough to not order...

so, if you were ordering just two drinks, would you implicitly be calling the bartender a loser?

Hahaha

@KutuluMike Well, you would do it in a country where that sign doesn't even exist with that meaning.

12:33 PM
Smashmouth exists in every country.

@KutuluMike HAHAHAHAHA! Hilarious!

Anyway, it's the best scene from the whole movie. August Diehl is boss!

Just googled him, and he looks like he could be related to my main man Mads.
(As in, they look similar. I don't think they are actually related)

@ChristianRau Well, I simply need you around to explain and translate bizarre German-like stuff like this. I mean, I don't know what other reason I have to keep you around :P

@steelerfan Yeah, I know, I know. :'(

12:42 PM

@ChristianRau Awwww. You know that absolutely none of that is true. I'm just being silly, silly bean ;)
I am being goofy from lack of sleep.

@steelerfan I know, don't worry. ;-)

@DrRDizzle Hehe!
@ChristianRau ^^
:))
steelerfan is going on 1.5 hours of sleep and like 2 cups of coffee already...WATCH OUT!! ;)

Awww, no sleepies for yousies? :'(

No :'(

Q: Why does MacKenzie McHale retain her cut-glass English accent?

EleventhDoctorIt seems hard to believe that MacKenzie McHale would retain her very English accent in view of her many years spent with Americans. She seems to identify closely with the USA. Is there an obvious reason why she would have retained her English accent so firmly?
