@steelerfan Where?
@NapoleonWilson uhm, where you live.
@steelerfan January 7th, it seems.
@NapoleonWilson Really? I'm surprised it's that much later over there. When I say "over there" it means across the ocean. Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you.
Well, we often get some of the Oscar stuff from autumn in January/February.

Gotcha.
@NapoleonWilson Well, I am outta here for a while. See you all in 4-5 days. Wish my Steelers luck :)
Oh, you're starting your journey early?
I have a lot to do tomorrow.
Doing some tourist stuff in Washington while at it?
No. I have been to Seattle quite often. I have to pack and ensure everything is taken care of at my house. I'm entrusting my neighbor, I am scared.
Well, good luck then. I'll keep an eye out for you in the ranks.

I am working all day on Thanksgiving. If I have a chance, I will pop in and say hi/bye.
Did I tell you where my seats are? I can't remember.....
I have vacation on Friday, so I can enjoy the thanksgiving football games.

@NapoleonWilson OK, just talked to my brother in law. Our tickets are on the 20 yard line, Visiting side. 2nd tier. I have no idea what 2nd tier means, he said he will explain it to me when he sees me and show me the seating chart. So, there you go, that's where we will be. I will be the blonde jumping up and down waving a 'terrible towel'
@NapoleonWilson Oh good :) Have a good Holiday. Talk to you later.
GO STEELERS!!!
Anyway, I'll look out for the terrible blonde with the jumping towel.

Q: What is this movie series? Action, thriller, spy-ish genre?

TommyrooThere's a series of movies, action-based thriller genre. Kind of spy-ish, was released fairly recently (no earlier than 2010, I think, and even that's pushing it). However, while I rejected his most recent one for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tag, while it appeared to be copied from Wikipedia, it's one of those things where it actually does work, keeping things concise and whatnot. Soooooo yeah.

@AnkitSharma Thanksgiving is this Thursday in the US, and coupled with work and very busy weekends the last few weeks I haven't been able to hop on as much.
17:08
Got called into work today. I am so sick of flaky people. Looks like I will be bugging you guys for a few more days. Please, contain your excitement :)
@NapoleonWilson I know I am annoying, but I didn't think I was 'terrible' ;)
@steelerfan So you do this a work>
?
@Axelrod Yeah, usually. I work in ICU, it is usually slow, Dayshifts it is busy. I only have 2 patients up here right now, and one is being moved this afternoon, I usually get bored.
@DrRDizzle That sucks. I have been anticipating this movie for a while.
17:28
@steelerfan Nice.
@Axelrod Doesn't almost everyone in Mos Eisley (with the exception of Wad) chat while they're at work?
@steelerfan I have no idea.
@Axelrod Yeah, I always see "I am at work right now" or "I have to go into a meeting" talk over there a lot. I believe almost everyone over there has tech jobs with the exception of Wad and myself.
@MattD I know quite less about Thanksgiving. I only know its about combine diners and turkey
@steelerfan sounds good to me
I have no idea what people in here do for work. I know Catija does something in the film industry.... I think? But, I am not sure what.
17:32
I'm not sure if I should be here, despite the tech job, but I guess as long as my production remains high I'll be fine.
@AnkitSharma Yeah, I keep forgetting that Thanksgiving is mainly an American holiday.
Catija is a student.
I am Database engineer
@Axelrod Oh really? I didn't know that. Very cool.
@AnkitSharma Yeah, you guys are all smarter than me, that's for sure.
@Axelrod You are more than welcome to be here :)
@steelerfan I am planning a shift from long but confused at the moment. Need to study hard and i hate studies
@Axelrod Its good having you here
17:36
@AnkitSharma I cannot imagine you being confused at anything. Everyone in here seems like they can solve all of the world's problems.
Napoleon intimidates me on how smart he is.
@AnkitSharma Nice.
@steelerfan The internet does that to you.
@steelerfan I am lazy and when hardwork come.....i get confused in searching excuse ;)
But when start something, i mostly complete it.
@Axelrod Yeah. I am used to just being on my Steelers forums. No offense to most Steelers fans, but it is not like they have any advanced degrees in anything. It is much different chatting with them than it is with you guys :)
@steelerfan For what it's worth, most of what any tech jobs do can be taught in about six months.
We just have a crazy anti-trade school thing going on.
@AnkitSharma I pride myself in having good work ethic. I guess it was how I was raised. My dad was adamant that you NEVER missed work unless you were on your death bed and laziness was not accepted in my house.
17:39
I mean, they teach large portions of it to Marines who go into the engineering groupings.
3-6 months.
@steelerfan Its not that i am lazy for my work but for doing other stuff like gym, further studies, learning driving, swimming etc etc.......long pending list
@Axelrod I am not a tech person at all. I am the first to admit it. I mean, I have a regular cell phone, NOT a smart phone and an i-pad at home. That's it. I don't really want anything or need anything else.
@AnkitSharma Oh, I wasn't calling YOU lazy. I am just bitching because people are constantly calling in at work. When I get my new position the first of the year, they are all being fired. I am sick of this crap!
Gotta go. Work calls. Be back in a bit.
Though it's sad, that's really all most people need.

Have funnn
C u later
@AnkitSharma So, Ankit, what do you want to know about Thanksgiving?
17:43
@Axelrod I mostly love to know origins
In India Christmas and halloween has been started celebrating with Valentine etc day
But Thanksgiving not yet
The concept of a Thanksgiving itself is from an old Christian practice where they'd fast for a day (they wouldn't eat) and pray in thanks.
The Thanksgiving holiday celebrated in the US, however, is more about the Pilgrims, who were a group of Puritan Christians, and their first year in the US after landing.
(Of course it wasn't called the US at the time)
The trip was hard, and a lot of people died along the way and in the months after they landed. Many people starved due to the differences between the English climates and the north eastern US.
They essentially couldn't farm the same way and had to rely on hunting.
17:49
You mean UK to US?
Essentially yes, though the UK is quite a bit bigger than just the British Isles.
Now, the Native Americans in the area had just had a major catastrophe years earlier. It was the 1600s and explorers had been coming over from Europe, bringing diseases that the Natives had no natural resistances to.
So the Wampanoag tribe, which lived in the area the Pilgrims landed in, befriended the Pilgrims for two reasons:
1) The Pilgrims brought advanced tools and asked for simple things like beaver pelts in trade. There were a ton of beavers, but natives in the area were mostly using rock tools and bows.
2) The Wampanoag were at war with a neighboring tribe that was less damaged by the diseases that had swept the area previously.
The Wampanoag taught the Pilgrims how to plant sustainable crops in the area.
Nice to know that stuff
Yep.
Is it celebrated like potluck ?
It was essentially a potluck at the time. The Natives brought some of their food (mainly maize-based items, but also deer and turkey)
and the colonists made what they could as well.
Which included beer because they managed to get barley growing.
17:56
Great......atleast i can have beer ;)
Ohhhh Maize is corn... i can have that too
Yeah, but that was corn before it was selectively chosen to be juicy and sweet. They used it like a grain to make flour.
So cornbread, for sure.
Corn flour is common in my native place too
Corn came from America, heh.
They also had squash and potentially rice depending on the crop.
Its part of Punjabi cooking from long ago
Makki di roti (Punjabi: ਮੱਕੀ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ (Gurmukhi), مکی دی روٹی (Shahmukhi), मक्की दी रोटी (Devanagari)) is a flat, unleavened Punjabi bread made from corn flour, primarily eaten in Punjab region of Pakistan and India. Like most rotis in South Asian cuisine, it is baked on a tava. It is an important element of the rural Punjabi cuisine. Literally, Makki di roti means "bread of corn" in the Punjabi language. Makki di roti is yellow in color when ready, and has much less adhesive strength — which makes it difficult to handle. Due to this, making makki di roti is more difficult than roti made from wheat...
makki=corn
roti = bread

So bread of corn
That's cool
Often served with Sarson da Saag, huh?
18:08
My roots from Jamu (Indian state) and it have great influence from Punjabi food
How does that taste? It sounds like it a tortilla with mustard.
Nothing like tortilla
Its not that crispy but sift like any other roti
Roti is like base of roll or taco i think
Yeah, tortillas are usually soft until fried. Does it taste like corn, or is it more bread like?
Sarson da Saag is Mustard leafs but its like spinach gravy
@Axelrod in middle
Huh.
What's the difference between roti and paratha?
18:13
I am not fan of it, even when its part of my hometown food
Sarson da Saag is ok to me but i avoid Makki di roti.
Is it the texture or the taste you dislike?
I only like roti made of wheat flour
@Axelrod nothing specific at all
But i like other things made of corn or babycorn.
I like nachos etc
A lot of people are like that with tortillas too. My girlfriend only likes corn, I prefer flour.
Nachos are awesome. Better with meat, but still!
So apparently India uses the same corn variety as the US mostly (yellow sweet corn).
@AnkitSharma Yeah, tons of food. Some people go to more than one family member or friend's home throughout the weekend as well.
@Axelrod My preference depends on what dish I'm eating, I guess. I lean a bit towards flour, but lately I've gravitated more towards corn.
Nachos with meat? Sounds quite different.
ANyways for vegetarian like me this doesn't matter much, i will eat nachos with salsa
18:19
@MattD Flour is a must for burritos, but I dig corn for tacos.
@AnkitSharma What sort of cheese do you use for nachos?
@Axelrod Yeah, that's usually the way I swing as well.
@Axelrod don't know, i just buy them from market. Any reputed brand
But no specific type, like cheddar or colby?
Or is it one of those cheeses kind of like a sauce?

Nachos are a Tex-Mex dish from northern Mexico. The dish is composed of tortilla chips (totopos) covered with cheese or cheese-based sauce, and is often served as a snack. More elaborate versions add more ingredients and can be served as a main dish. First created in about 1943 by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya, the original nachos consisted of fried corn tortillas covered with melted cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeño peppers. == HistoryEdit == Nachos originated in the city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, just over the border from Eagle Pass, Texas. In 1943, the wives of U.S. soldiers stationed at...
We have a similar brand of chips called Doritos out here.
They're awesome with sour cream.
@Axelrod Ohh, as a dish. We don't make them in house, atleast i don't but had it in restaurants. They served it with white sauce and small chopped tomato onion etc
Ohhh Sour cream it is
Not sure how accessible that is out there. It's not on the list of common dairy products.

Chili's Grill & Bar is an international casual dining restaurant chain that features Tex-Mex-style cuisine. You have chili's out there?!
Hah, that's awesome.
I like there nachos which have jalapeno and Sour cream
Yeah. The menu I pulled up seems to be pretty close to what you'd get out here.
18:29
But i have gone there thrice only and my Mexican food knowledge is not good enough either
@AnkitSharma Yeah, those are pretty typical nachos here in the US. They're also usually offered up with some kind of meat on them, usually ground beef or chicken.
Good Mexican food is one of those things that sort of keeps me from ever wanting to live outside the US, unless it was also in a Central American country.
I had nachos over some stupid bar last time and they just ruined it with Indian spices. They didn't fused well at all
@MattD I have heard this before
A lot of Mexican foods are really simply. Nachos in their base form are one of them.
@MattD Hah, then there's all those huge differences between the central american countries.
Do you like your tamales made with corn, or banana? Salsa with various fruits and sweet, or mostly chilies and spicy?
I had tacos and wrap with kidney beans from some called to be a Mexican food restaurant fro a food curt but disliked it
Chili's is only my good experience with Mexican food
Kidney beans aren't very popular for Mexican food. Pinto beans are more common.
18:35
Pinto and kidney beans , both are known as Rajma in India, so i might have fused them and got confused :D
I think it was pinto
Ok... pinto beans are oval, kidney are shaped like kidneys.
Pintos are small (like a centimeter in length), kidney up to an inch or more.
Ermm
2.54 cm
I like kidney beans gravy made from India, one of my fav from my hometown
Rajma masala?
@Axelrod yeah
But Rajma should be from Jammu only, else they will have different flavor
That's very close in appearance to chili.
Chili con carne (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈt͡ʃile koŋ ˈkarne]; English: chili with meat), commonly known in American English as simply "chili", is a spicy stew containing chili peppers, meat (usually beef), and often tomatoes and beans. Other seasonings may include garlic, onions, and cumin. Variations, both geographic and personal, involve different types of meat and ingredients. Recipes provoke disputes among aficionados, some of whom insist that the word "chili" applies only to the basic dish, without beans and tomatoes. Chili con carne is a frequent dish for cook-offs and is used as an ingredient...
Many chilis don't have meat, but this is the only wikipedia page I found.
18:40
@Axelrod seems similar
The spices in the masala recipe I found online would definitely make a difference.
Just remove meat and its done almost, we had it with rice
It's interesting how cultures separated by thousands of miles make such similar foods when given similar ingredients.
And what kind of rice do you mostly use?
White, brown, golden, wild, etc?
Basmati (pronounced IPA: [baːsmət̪iː] in South Asia) is a variety of long, slender grain aromatic rice which is traditionally from India and Pakistan. Basmati rice is believed to have been cultivated in the Indian Subcontinent for centuries. The earliest extant work to mention the...
white
Or some other Indian variations of white rice
Interesting.
It's healthier and apparently has a spicy aroma?
18:45
In most of India we have rice or roti else our food felt incomplete
Rest region have other stuff made from rice or some similar flour
Very cool.
Thank you for entertaining my curiosity, @AnkitSharma .
My pleasure
Anyways its The Screening Room where we rarely discuss movies this days :D
Now I'm hungry for Chili's, hah
My roommates gf is here for few days, so we went out for dinner and had some amalgam dinner with chole bhature , biryani and pizza
Sounds like a good time.
18:52
lately I've been more into black beans over pinto.
Never seen black bean in here
The black turtle bean is a small, shiny variety of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), especially popular in Latin American cuisine, though it can also be found in Cajun and Creole cuisines of south Louisiana. Black beans (and all common beans) are native to the Americas, but have been introduced around the world. They are also used in Punjabi cuisine. In Punjabi, they are known as maa ki daal, but are used interchangeably with vigna mungo in countries such as the USA . They are often called simply black beans (frijoles negros, zaragoza, judía negra, poroto negro, caraota o habichuela negra in Spanish...
I didn't go to over expensive restaurants, maybe they have them but its surely not common in here
They have a nice flavor, and they're healthier than pinto beans.
Not sure how to describe the flavor, but I like pinto more.
Earthier?
Kind of like smoky?
I think... I'm going to have Chipotle today.
With black beans because of this discussion.
18:57
@Axelrod Thank you for the history lesson today. Awesome!!
I'm having pumpkin gnocchi with chicken and some kind of sauce, plus asparagus.
That sounds delicious.
@Axelrod I honestly say give it a try. They're healthier and I've come to like the taste a bit more. I also tend to get bowls over burritos to further cut calories.
Can't find anything like that out here without cooking it yourself or sitting down for an hour, though!
@Axelrod Where's "out here"?

Q: Is this a nod to new 52 or just a coincidence?

John DemetriouI saved this screenshot from the 5th episode of season 1 of Supergirl and I was wondering, is the a nod to the new 52 or just a coincidence?

Southern California, specifically in a business area of San Diego.
@Axelrod Do you have a Trader Joe's? I'm kidding, I know you do, somewhere near you.
But it have 12
Is there one real life version with 52 too?
I can't see the picture.
@MattD Of course, somewhere.
@Axelrod That's where my wife got the pumpkin gnocchi from.
19:05
I will remember this.
I meant for lunch, though, hah.
Ironically, everything's relatively close in San Diego but takes several times longer to get to thanks to the traffic.
@Axelrod Ah, gotcha. When you said San Diego I was like, you're so full of shit. You have everything there.
Yeah, unless you want good Mexican food, ironically.
It's all pampering the white elite around here, with their hatred of spiciness and their love for jerky flavor on their meat.
If your carne asada tastes like jerky, you're doing it wrong.
@Axelrod I've managed to find plenty of really good Mexican places out here in Columbus, Ohio actually, which makes me happy as I'm originally from Phoenix.
Nice. That must have been a terrible move, though!
@Axelrod It was when I was younger, moved here in 1995 just before my 10th birthday. Since then I've come to really enjoy Ohio and pretty much consider it my adopted home state.
But yeah, wife and I may actually patronize Trader Joe's more. Good quality and about the same price as most bigger grocery stores, maybe even a bit cheaper. Downside is I don't think they have things like dedicated butcher departments.
19:15
You guys are all in your late twenties!! I am older than all of you, yet you are all smarter than me!!
"Smart" is relative.
I have terrible memory. I could never be a nurse, for example.
I guess more intelligence.....I have my blonde moments, trust me. It is pathetic some of the dumb s**t that comes out of my mouth.
@steelerfan Actually I turned 30 this year, but I'll agree that I'm smarter than you. :P
@MattD hehehe :)
@steelerfan If it's any consolation, and while it is small, judging by your profile pic I wouldn't have pegged you for being older, or at least much older, than I am.
19:20
@MattD I am not much older than you. I have a couple years on you. That pic was taken last year, so I am a year younger. I exercise every day, eat right, drink a lot of water, do not smoke or drink. That is probably the reason I look younger than I do. Of course, my life is very boring though :)
@MattD What's the weather like in Ohio? I had 1/2" of snow at my house this morning.
