Q: 90s or 80's movie- false accusation of rape

 SilvaOMG i remenber almost anything about this movie, but... the last scene shows a woman having rought sex with a guy, because he is very angry with some shit she did. She intencionaly provokes him to have sex with her. But as he is angry she estimulate him to tell the he is raping her, meanwhile she...

1:18 AM
@steelerfan I heard about that... I'm so sick of hearing about that crap... not the hearing about it... but the fact that it happens so I have to hear it.

1:32 AM
@Catija I know, it is getting old. I am trying to watch the game and local news, I am sure local news will be on it all night.
@Catija was in Mos Eisley earlier.....no way I was mentioning that this happened around where I live. No way I was going there. It would spark gun control, politics, religion......who knows what other debates :)

1:55 AM
@steelerfan Probably a good call.

@Catija Yeah, I pop in and say hi to Wad or major stackings if I see them in the room, but certain topics send me running for the door :)

Yeah... and then they wonder why the mods and CMs spend so much time in there. :D

I know, I saw that Richard had a bunch of them in there today.....never a dull moment over there!
I feel bad for Slitherincess (sp)? She is one of the nicest users on the site, I chat with her over there on the weekends.....she is constantly reigning in chaos in a very polite manner. I am sure she is re-thinking her new position over there :) it is pretty entertaining :)

2:15 AM
I think she'll be fine :D They all seem to like her... and it's funny because she's the only girl over there that I'm aware of.

Yeah, it's entertaining, she is like the den mother always reigning in her cubs :) she is super cool.
Arghhhh!!! Baltimore just scored, I am outta here, gotta start concentrating on the game. My team does better when they know that I am concentraring :)

Q: Was Inspector Highland the inside man?

OmegacronIn the film Patriot Games starring Harrison Ford, the terrorist group uses someone inside the police department to obtain the route & arrangements for Sean Miller's transfer. A few lines and glances by Inspector Robert Highland (played by David Threlfall), riding in the van, seem to indicate that...

@MattD Yeah... if you mean a kickstarter just like that stupid "potato salad" one.

3:42 AM
That guy is from Columbus, oddly enough. I was tempted to back because the festivities would go down 20 minutes from where I lived.

@MattD You mean the potato salad thing?

@Catija Yeah.
I have zero intentions of backing this because I've spent like, $250 on board games on Kickstarter this year, but dumb, harmless ideas that gain traction amuse me.

@MattD But for less than $15 you can make one yourself on any of the various custom sites like zazzle or cafepress. :P

The video is perfection for this thing.
Just, oh my word I was laughing my ass off.
@Catija Pshhhhh, I don't condone movie (hat) piracy.

And you can pick whatever font you want :P

3:46 AM
Just like fandub anime!

What.. because the fandub anime is usually better?

Not even going there tonight, at least not on my phone. :P

The Dattebayo subs for Bleach are way better than the "official" ones.
Well... were, anyway.

I still have copies around. Burned to DVDs I believe.
I dropped that show after the Bounto arc.

Oh, wait... those are fansubs...
Yeah... we made it a bit farther than that but not much.
I considered starting it again but Andy wants to watch it in English... because it's on Netflix, I think... and I can't stand listening to them with the "wrong" voices.
But I don't like watching Fullmetal in Japanese because the English is the "right" voices since that's what I watched first... plus, they put out AVIs, I think... and our video player doesn't like them very much.

3:50 AM
Meh, I'm over all that crap, and now that I'm on my laptop because the wife fell asleep on the couch and this damn football game is blocking Colbert, I'll tell you why.
I don't care how people get their anime, honestly, but I really do feel the US anime industry deserves tons of support and cred.
For how often people bitch about the movie and TV and music industries not "getting" new media, the US anime industry has generally come through in spades.

A lot of the actors I know do the dubs for English stuff. behindthevoiceactors.com/Elizabeth-Maxwell

So many legal streaming options, simulcasts with currently running shows from Japan within an hour of airing there in cases like Crunchyroll, and companies like Funimation offering an entire DVD line of complete series for super cheap.

You mean like Funimation?

@Catija Funimation, Crunchyroll, whoever the hell owns that Raven channel or whatever.
But yeah, I know you weren't really going there, but it irks me that people still seem to prefer fansubs over legit means of getting the shows they enjoy.

Sure. What they do is amazing... And I'll always watch some of the shows in English... usually if I watched it that way originally or if I got lazy and didn't want to read...

3:54 AM
I feel the general quality of dubs has grown to be way better as well.
I don't watch as much anime as I used to, but I don't really come across a dub anymore where I'm like, "This is completely unbearable."

The best thing that the fansubs did was actually explain what was going on if there was a uniquely Japanese concept or if they were making a play on words that doesn't translate or is based on mis-reading Kanji and that sort of thing. I've not seen the corporate subbing people do that.

Funimation has an INSANE process to qualify to be a translator with them.
I've not been through it, but I have a friend who translates Japanese for a company that makes Honda parts who had one of Funimations reps on her panel for breaking into the translation industry.
They do no mess around.
Further....
Sometimes it's not their fault.
The show owners in Japan usually like to get involved, and if they feel Americans won't get something, they'll demand some silly change. That's why rice balls were jelly donuts in so many anime dubs in the 90s and early 2000s: they didn't think we'd know what they are or could understand what we were seeing.
Company doing the dub has little to no say in what the owners in Japan want. Caitlyn Glass made that absurdly clear fielding questions about that at a voice actors round table I attended at a con back in 2009.
They want you to call them jelly donuts? You call them jelly donuts, or they take the rights back.
Funimation specifically only has so many translators, all working on several shows, and all living in different parts of the world.
The process is pretty intense, and the final part is basically full blown translation, including cultural and regional contexts, no dictionaries or aides of any kind, only what you know.

Well... fortunately, more people know Japanese culture now and they don't have to do that any more... but I've always liked getting a "learning experience" where, even if the info's only in frame for a few seconds, if I want to read it, I can rewind and pause to read it.

Of their "entrance exam" to be a translator that is.

Anyway, Husband wants to do the crossword and I need to restart my laptop because it's doing something stupid.
Night!

4:01 AM
True, it's not as bad as it used to be, but I've attended looooots of panels with voice actors and ADR directors and translators and have a massive appreciation for what they try to bring.
Night, and sorry if I went on a rant. :P

@MovieReel It ain't Disclosure. But not answering til Q improves, otherwise what's the point.
After a small increase in quality, ID Qs seem to be getting crappier again. [Yeah, yeah, I know, "it's always crappy!" etc. Trust me, it was slightly improving.]

Q: horror movie mid - late 70's

johnnovague memories of a horror movie, where these group of people venture through a cave or portal to a hidden valley maybe, i only remember the scene, probably towards the end where the sole survivor (possibly) escapes but is attacked by a flying devil / beats gargoyle, it lands on his/her back and ...

@NapoleonWilson Sure, I guess that's something
"How is Bucky even alive?" Because, suspension-of-disbelief-wise, it's the low point of an already iffy movie (apologies to Dizzle). My eyes rolled so hard at that bit, they stayed rolled for the duration.

@Walt But it makes sense, was clearly set up and works within the logic of the universe that the film is set in.
@Walt Also - do you not like Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

1:05 PM
@DrRDizzle Your definition of 'sense' is apparently unlike my own. :/
@DrRDizzle To be fair I don't like most comic book movies. But still watch a bunch of them. I guess I'm that bored (or easily coerced by friends)

@Walt The Marvel Cinematic Universe is great. The individual movies might not be, but overall the MCU is amazing.

@DrRDizzle From a commercial pov, it's a huge success and seems to be well planned, sure

Though, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is quite universally considered one of the best (if not the best) MCU movies to date, but of course that is to be weighed against one's own attitude towards the MCU movies in general in the first place.
But to date I didn't actually even read that Bucky question at all, let alone its answers.

I think my favorite is still the 1st Iron Man. Some sharp writing and the fact that the first half hour or so is his origin story worked surprisingly well.
Final fight was kinda lame, but well, can't have it all.
And then they had to ruin it with an awful sequel (and an odd 2nd sequel that's borderline parodic)

1:23 PM
@Walt Iron Man is still one of my favorites, sure. But there have been so many MCU films that are one of my favorites that it still ends up near the middle of my favorite MCU films.
@NapoleonWilson You edited one of the answers!

Hmm, as usual I don't really know exactly what my favourite MCU movie would be, they're all mostly fine in their own ways. But I'd probably go with some of the obvious contenders, like Winter Soldier, Avengers 1/2, or Guardians of the Galaxy. Though, in retrospect they all have their weaknesses and it's hard to say one of them was actually much significant. Rewatch on TV for sure, but nothing really BluRay worthy I think...
Though, recently Ant-Man was quite cool, too. Avengers 2 had those great moments of post-human evolution and classic idolization and The Winter Soldier some fine, even if obvious, reminiscences of 70s paranoia fare.

@NapoleonWilson I have them all on Blu Ray.

Q: I want to watch a movie like I Origins

SlimonadeI recently watched "I Origins" very cool movie with a lot of philosophy and thinking but also many emotions. I'd like a movie in that style, like "I Origins", "The philosophers" (also known as "After The Dark") or even like "Life of Pie".

@DrRDizzle Busted, NW :P [Admittedly I really haven't read the answers yet]
@MovieReel Toodles

That new close reason really pays off. I wonder if we tend to get more recommendations now that it is in place.

1:26 PM
@NapoleonWilson The only MCU films I don't love at least a little bit are Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World.

@NapoleonWilson How would that be the case? (I like this option too, BTW. Very handy)
Was The Incredible Hulk really an official entry in the current MCU?

Well, as usual I can't chime in into the internet's utter hate of Iron Man 2. Thor: The Dark World wasn't that bad either, even if admittedly not as good as the 1st one or many other MCUers. But yeah, The Incredible Hulk was crap and I'd prefer the Ang Lee version any time.

@Walt Canonically, yes. Head-canonically, no.
I was lying, @NapoleonWilson - I don't own The Incredible Hulk on Blu Ray. I am deeply sorry.
@NapoleonWilson I like both Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk, I just don't love them. I think Iron Man 2 is the only one I actively dislike.

@Walt Huh? Was just a small remark, I don't think there's any actual causality there. And what "opinion", did you respond to the correct message?

@DrRDizzle Hey, you're right. Released after Iron Man.
@NapoleonWilson I wrote 'option' :P

1:30 PM
Oh, then it makes sense.

@NapoleonWilson Just asking why you think one would lead to the other

@Walt It even has Downey's Stark in a post-credits scene.

@Walt Not just that. The events of The Incredible Hulk are shown in Iron Man 2 and referenced in The Avengers/Avengers Assemble, Tony Stark is in the post-credits scene of The Incredible Hulk, Emil Blonsky/Abomination is referenced in The Consultant and Agents of SHIELD and General Ross will be in Captain America: Civil War.

@DrRDizzle I hated these too! (But, well, also others :S)

@Walt It was just that I subjectively tend to notice more of those questions now than during the whole proposal phase of the close reason at all.

1:32 PM
@NapoleonWilson Oh, OK

@DrRDizzle But will it be the same (i.e. William Hurt) version?

@DrRDizzle Do you think they're ever going to feature a reboot in the current MCU?

@NapoleonWilson Yes. William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross: The United States Secretary of State and former U.S. Army general dedicated to capturing the Hulk. Hurt, on returning to the MCU, said, "I don’t think it’s a reprise, I think it’s a new iteration completely," adding, "what [the writers have] done is they've taken a character who was the Ross from [The Incredible Hulk] and made a new version... a more modernized style."

@Walt Uh, I thought that only comes in, say, 10 years, when the MCU has been exhausted and they need something "new". But of course then as a completely reboot of the whole MCU.

@Walt I doubt it. They put a fair amount of effort into continuity - we might see an actor change but I can't see them invalidating an older film.

1:36 PM
@DrRDizzle So they'll dye his stache or something

@Walt He has a mohawk now /s

@DrRDizzle Those are in again? Damn hipsters

@Walt HULK SMASH PUNY GENERAL ROS... is that a mohawk?

ADHD Hulk
@DrRDizzle Hmm. I'd never put it past these people, really.

Well, they could do a kind of in-universe pseudo-reboot that'll look like a reboot for all intents and purposes but stays inside the continuity, e.g. Days of Future Past/Star Trek style.

1:41 PM
TBH Daredevil is kind of a reboot, isn't it? Just on TV

@Walt I can't see it, at least not while Kevin Fiege is in charge. A reboot would serve no purpose - it doesn't advance the MCU, it doesn't give them a new character to play with and it would annoy the fans.
@Walt Daredevil the film was made by 20th Century Fox, not Marvel Studios.

@Walt How's it a reboot? OOOOHH, now I get it, you mean a reboot of a previous film but not necessarily a previous MCU film?

@NapoleonWilson You can add Terminator Genisys to that list btw.

@NapoleonWilson I think it's nice of you to assume I know what the hell I mean

@Walt They way I (and I believe Marvel Studios) think of the MCU is as a television series. A reboot would be akin to releasing an episode of a show, and then a season later remaking that episode. It wouldn't make any sense.

1:43 PM
Looking at my IMDb MCU rating. Some of them are a bit harsh. I'll rectify it
Guess they were first impression grades
@DrRDizzle Ah, but we know it could happen ;)

Seeing the resident MCU expert here, I have "acquired" Avengers: Age of Ultron but was considering to maybe rent the Extended/Special/Remastered/Whatever BluRay (if existing) instead, for a possibly longer version of the movie. Thus I'd ask the question, does it have significantly more scenes/longer runtime? Is it actually a longer version instead of just some spearate deleted scenes in the extras?

@NapoleonWilson Is Whedon moaning again about someone tampering with his work? (His usual excuse)

@Walt I don't know. I only heard there would possibly be some kind of Extended edition (since many people, not me though, complained about some open storylines that weren't explained to their fullest).

@NapoleonWilson As far as I am aware, there has been no extended edition released. According to this article (which matches what I have read), all the special features are on the regular Blu Ray.
@Walt What the hell.

@DrRDizzle Some shows are weird like that

1:51 PM
@DrRDizzle So there isn't a longer version of the movie but just some extra deleted scenes?

@NapoleonWilson Yup. I haven't yet seen them.

@DrRDizzle And well, the CSI franchise had been remaking its own episodes for years, but it seems no one ever noticed this

@Walt The snark is real.

@DrRDizzle You don't even own it yet? So you lied two times.

@DrRDizzle As real as a bandersnatch, anyway

1:53 PM
@NapoleonWilson I own, it I just haven't watched it. I've been super busy.
@NapoleonWilson I guess if you really want to "get" me, I haven't got Ant-Man or any of the future MCU films either.

Oh, ok.
@DrRDizzle Hmm, indeed. But ok, I'd not count future stuff or stuff that isn't released yet.

@NapoleonWilson I also don't own Agents of SHIELD season two on Blu Ray, but that isn't a film
@NapoleonWilson or Agent Carter.

@DrRDizzle Which, uh, implies you do actually own season 1? o_O

@DrRDizzle You should say that more proudly

@NapoleonWilson Yup. I plan an owning season two as well.

1:59 PM
@NapoleonWilson Clever MCU, they use this continuity to reel people in. "Watch this if you wanna catch up, even if it pales in comparison with the other things in our franchise"
Anyway, hair getting unruly, gonna go chop it off :)
Catch you guys later

@Walt I'm a sucker for continuity
@Walt see you around

@Walt And it's to date still debatable if you even need it in order to catch up at all. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson If you really want to know whats going on, its important. Agents of SHIELD set the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron in motion, which in turn will go on to set up Captain America: Civil War.

But granted, when I find the time I also gotta get into AoS season 2 some day.
@DrRDizzle Uhuh.

@NapoleonWilson Did you watch season one? Season two is a big improvement, and season three just started (and is also good so far).

2:03 PM
Hmm, I wanted to point you to answering the respective question, but, I see you already did, silly me.

@NapoleonWilson The one about Agents of SHIELD affecting the films?

@DrRDizzle I watched season 1 and it was fine. Nice light-hearted entertainment even if nothing more, like the movies largely, maybe not as good. I couldn't even understand the broad internet hatred towards it, but well, I rarely can.

@NapoleonWilson It did have some really weak episodes.

Well, from a bunch 22 you're actually allowed to. It's not an 8-episode premium show but a friggin' TV action show afterall.

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I know. It got a lot better after the tie-in episode to Captain America: The Winter Soldier anyway, but by then people had made their minds up.

@steelerfan Ok... She had a bunch of surgery to remove the gland so she's got stitches and a slightly caved in anus... which means we have to clean it since she's not allowed to lick.

@Catija ahhh..now that's love! Is she in any pain?

@steelerfan Only when we squirt water into the crevasse.
How's the puppy?

@Catija well, my puppy thinks that I am a nutjob. My sister and my nephew came up to watch the 2nd half of the game lastnight. It's not a pretty sight when my sister and I get together for a Steelers vs. Ravens game. We start speaking in tongues. My puppy didn't come out of the bedroom until about an hour after the game :)

Aww. Poor baby... pretty soon he(?) will be right there cheering along with you. :D

4:23 PM
@Catija he is doing really good though. He is such a good boy. He listens so good and he is so easy to teach things to. Yeah, he will either tun for the hills or watch the games with me :)

@steelerfan Awww. Sounds so sweet.

@Catija he is a boy. I named him Levon for my favorite Elton John song.

@steelerfan Ah, I think I remember you saying that now.

@NapoleonWilson Too bad you didn't get the game lastnight. The horrible kicker for the Steelers missed two field goals, game went into overtime. The Steelers lost to the Ravens.....The Ravens!!! Our bitter rivals.at home. in overtime. Needless to say, I am contemplating throwing myself into oncoming traffic today.
@Catija btw, I asked a question in SE History and asked for other sources than Wikipedia.....got voted to close within about an hour!
@Catija not only that, the user that voted to close actually answered my question.

@steelerfan Wow, that's crappy.

@Catija Yeah, I went in chat to ask a mod, I was told that you cannot request sources. Then I was told in the numerous amount of comments that I won't find what I'm looking for on the History site......??? Even though it was a question regarding Anne Boleyn.

@steelerfan Wha? That makes no sense.

@Catija Yeah, I can try with my i-pad. Give me a few minutes.

steelerfanAnne Boleyn was executed on May 19, 1536. @Catija yes!

What a bunch of asses... seriously... "we don't help with research"... WTF? Any question could be that. Why bother having a site if half the questions are closed for stupid reasons.

4:51 PM
@Catija Finally.....a voice of reason! I thought I was going crazy! I know, most of the questions get closed or on hold. It's impossible to have a site devoted to history without citing sources...I don't get it.
@Catija no, it's not closed, it was voted for closure by one user....and then the same user answered my question.
@Catija I am going to inquire about this on the meta site, I am so confused and there is nothing in the help center stating that these types of questions are off topic. Then, there was a question posted right after mine and the OP actually states in the question that they are researching for a book, but that one was not off topic. I am taking it to meta, it's confusing as well as inconsistent.

@steelerfan i am also not agree with her many times. Specially that time when out inter-site relation were in trouble. But still this step seems big cruel to me. She should be warned at first and then given time to improve.
Or maybe they warned her before and nobody knows?

@AnkitSharma yeah, I don't know about what happened in the past. I am not in there that often. I am usually in there a lot on the weekends when I work overnight bc someone is always in there. I am pretty sure there were warnings in the past. I think yesterday was the straw that broke the camel's back.

It's nice to see that her spirit is still bright and participation is same.
Maybe she will get elected back again.

you do know Richard's not a "she", right?
he's just a very big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

@MikeEdenfield thanks, I was just going to post that.

it's a common mistake, though. a user I'm probably not allowed to mention by name proposed to him earlier this year.

5:44 PM
@MikeEdenfield I am bummed, it sucks about Richard :(

@MikeEdenfield i didn't

yes. many of us are. but it happens. I'm pretty sure there are lots of things going on under the surface to which I am not privvy.
I'm also pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fiasco yesterday
my impression is that the CMs don't rush to judgement that quickly...

@MikeEdenfield really? I just assumed that yesterday was li
@MikeEdenfield the final draw.

there was something that happened at the very end of it, after it had mostly died down, that may not have helped matters. but I don't think him asking someone to flag him got him fired.

@MikeEdenfield Yeah we all know that CM processes are too slow to take action that quick

5:48 PM
@MikeEdenfield well, at any rate it sucks.

it does. we'll get over it.

@MikeEdenfield it has been a horrible 24 hours. A mass school shooting in my area, my team lost in overtime lastnight and now this!

...
I think perhaps your perspective on tragedy is a teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeensy bit skewed there.

@MikeEdenfield yes, slightly, I am attempting to mask my grief with sarcasm.

I wrote a spoiler-free review of The Martian if anyone is interested in reading it. It's a great film that you all deserve to see, regardless of if you read my review or not.

9:10 PM
@steelerfan You mean the same guy who already missed 2 field goals in the opening game? When will they consider changing him actually?
@AnkitSharma Yeah, I think I already planned a time travel challenge for the Genisys release. But makes quite some sense now, too.

A: Weekly Topic Challenge - Ideas

CatijaI would like to make a counter-proposal for The Martian. I think it would be fun to discuss films that are about surviving alone, regardless of the circumstances. Films that would be included in this group include: Cast Away All is Lost Life of Pi Moon (maybe?) Gravity 127 Hours

What happen to this?

@MikeEdenfield Haha, sure you can mention Mr. Shekar here. He fortunately hasn't spread his "influence" to this site. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson that s.s.1234 guy

@DrRDizzle You know what, since it's The Martian I'm actually finally going to take the time for reading one of your blog posts. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Yay!

9:20 PM
@AnkitSharma Probably starting tonight, till next sunday night?

@NapoleonWilson ok
@DrRDizzle i want to avoid it for few days....will read it after watching it probably.

@AnkitSharma That's fair enough, but it is spoiler free.

Wait, actually I even did propose a time travel challenge for Genisys, but noone voted for it.

i did a variation of it

9:35 PM
@NapoleonWilson yes, that same kicker! Even Snoop Dogg posted a profanity laced rant about it! Everyone is calling for his head. I have been in a parallel universe of hell in the past 24 hours ;)

I have questions about a films promotional material. Is that on-topic here?

> Questions about a Movie or TV show's production.
Personally I'd say that qualifies.
try it and see :)

@MikeEdenfield I risked it for a biscuit.

Q: Who made this Ant-Man promotional material?

Dr R DizzleI recently found this promotional video for Ant-Man, posted by what I believe to be the offical YouTube channel for Disney Japan, a hilarious but very odd song and dance. Being as it is Japanese, I initially passed it off as "just one of those Japanese things" and let it be. However, since then ...
