Why is it, when people want to give an example of a bad practice they hate, do they always seem to choose a super-famous, popular, critically acclaimed book or author as their example of why it doesn't work? It seems kind of self-defeating...
@ChrisSunami It's difficult without seeing the specific instance you are referring to, but it might be that some parts are bad and some parts are really good - which makes the book overall good, but still leaves some parts that could be better. And as the books are famous there are many people who have read it and therefore many people who can point out things they don't like.
Popular examples also evoke something in the reader of the answer. For example you are still thinking about the answers thanks to the examples they chose. Therefore people who like the idea of "There is no such thing as bad advertisement - every advertisement helps your product" may like to use this to advertise their answers on the site.
And there are no results! It says it's over but not who won. If it's you, @Secespitus Congrats and I know you'll do a terrific job. Unfortunately, I've got to get two of my cats to a vet appt and will be away from my computer for a couple of hours.
frustrating, trying to figure it out now, there's some file you can download to "audit" the election and it needs some software to tell you what the hell it means that no longer exists but there's a website for it now instead and that wants you to sign in
Writing's first moderator election has come to a close, the votes have been tallied and the new moderator is:
They'll be joining the existing crew shortly—please thank them for volunteering, and share your assistance and advice with them as they learn the ropes!

@Cyn it's on meta now. Also presumably in your inbox. :-) When you get back from the vet you'll have some reading ahead of you.
@Thing-um-a-jig I downloaded the file and ran the election software, and just as I was getting ready to post my unofficial results we got the meta post. (Meta posts sometimes have taken 10 minutes or so to show up, but this one was quick. Nice!)
@Secespitus It was more of a rant than a serious observation :D Sometimes it seems almost as if people are trolling --or at the least, trying to show off their sophistication --by being contemptuous of someone successful.
