Q: Proposing a list of writing books

ReedI understand that lists or specific book requests are forbidden on SE groups , though I don’t really see why, apart from the fact it would take up lots of time and generate multiple duplicates. I also saw that on meta, there were several questions about how to deal with lists of books, but I...

Q: Pirating books, taboo?

ReedIs it alright to speak about pirated books in writers SE? This is a controversial subject I am not sure how to approach the issue. For instance, when my interest in potentially being a professional writer was rekindled, I downloaded over 5GB worth of writing books. Some a general and some focus...

Q: Are all the tweeted links broken or just this one?

hildredI was looking at http://writers.stackexchange.com/posts/17467/revisions where I noticed that the question had been tweeted. Cool but the #! in the tweet-link causes problems. Is this a common problem?

Q: Difference between Analytical Writing and Critical Writing

CipherI have been spending time online since yesterday trying to understand the difference between analytical summary writing and critical writing. I intend to write an analytical summary essay on the topic of gender bias in academia after going through multiple sources (e.g: two academic research pap...

Q: Should I force-developing a story to a setting I have?

MnementhI have invented a setting I think is kinda cool, but I have no story for it. Now the question is - should I develop a story for this setting or is it bound to be a bad story, because not developed for the reason of the story but to throw light on a setting? For those interested, it's an Science ...

2:27 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 the dangers of addiction, right there, man
we might have to stage an intervention

Don't worry, I'll run out my supply and then the danger will pass
That's how I handle all my addictions
I just stop buying whatever it is

that's a sound plan
stop being addicted by not being addicted

In this case, I don't like paying full price for a season of tv on BD. And a recent notice from my ISP has turned me off of downloading illegally.
So when I finish Season 3 I have nothing left to watch until I find a good price on Season 4

maybe you could import it from Colombia directly
oh, sorry, that's cocaine

2:44 PM
would that work do you think? put a few kg of cocaine in a wooden crate, pack it with coffee and send it by air freight and pay the duty on the coffee. I mean, someone must have thought of that
@KitZ.Fox howzit?

@MattE.Эллен I think they use chemical sensors to try to catch that sort of thing.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 that makes sense. I wonder what sensors...

2:59 PM
@MattE.Эллен did you see my fb post from when we went on vacation? their random chemical check found traces of "chemicals" in my 5-year-old son's backpack

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 that does sound familiar

it was so lame
they had no clue what to do

"chemicals"? how ominous! maybe it was hydrogenised oxygen
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 so it worked then, smuggling cocaine in your son's back pack? ;)

yeah, cuz I hid it in my daughter's backpack

lol
did they search his pack, then?

3:07 PM
yeah, they took him aside for random extra screening. One of the screening tests was waving a cemical-sensing wand through his bag.
I'm all for random screening. It's fine. But the security theatre falls apart when they get a positive match, and then they have no idea what to do, so they do something, anything, to meet the rules.
In this case, they wanted to frisk his mother.
Not because the rules say "when a child is travelling with his mother, check her for whatever"
but because the security guard was female, and so she could frisk my wife but not me.
My wife had already walked off with my daughter to get coffee.
So I had to wait while they got a second (male) guard to come over so he could frisk me.
I'm not sure what frisking me accomplishes.
They didn't frisk my son.
They didn't search my bag or any of our other bags.
Their high-tech gadget found a match, and then they waved their hands around until we could go.

ridiculous!

ohai
just back from pilates

hello :D

ass is thoroughly kicked

you feeling toned?

3:16 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 except LEGO never runs out
@MattE.Эллен no.
:D

:-o
how long until you feel toned?

I don't know. Probably never. My arms feel tight though.
Check out my 12-inch guns!

flexes
really more like 7, but I haven't actually measured.

oh! how muscular

3:24 PM
@KitZ.Fox Yeah Lego is a tougher addiction nut to crack.
But I think I've reigned it in a bit.
I crack my nuts by reigning them in.
isn't that what everyone does?
mixes metaphors, pours into cake pan, bakes at 350 for 45 minutes
Actually, though, I did restructure my Lego hobby a few years ago to shift from collecting, which is very addictive and expensive, to building, which is very addictive and expensive but also productive.

hahaha

Q: Non-human protagonist - Good, bad, or up to the writing?

Tommy MyronIn a novel I plan on writing soon, the main protagonist (and indeed nearly everyone else in the story as well) is an elf. Humans are present, but they are far in the mountains, living in disorganized tribes, and barely ever mentioned. Will my reader have trouble identifying with an elf at first...

Q: Self help project

MargoI had some individuals submit anonymous small stories about themselves that I wanted to compile into a book..... I don't know who they are and it's based off a research project I did. Can I turn these stories into one book?

@KitZ.Fox I've been good thanks, much busier than normal, in the mood for writing again
