@rumtscho I thought my answer here contained useful information. I understand you feel it didn't answer the question... do you think instead it would be better if I asked and self-answered a different question to share knowledge wiki style, or do you just feel it's a bad answer and should remain deleted?

@TheUnhandledException not @rumtscho here, but she was just faster: The post doesn’t answer the question, and we can’t ignore one of the basic rules of the site.

@TheUnhandledException Yes, noticed that you had invested quite some effort in writing it.
If you can formulate a question to fit the answer, then self-answering is OK and even encouraged.
The problem would be, how to formulate the new question such that it fits in the site scope?
The way it is written, it seems to answer the question of "what is your preferred technique for sauteeing mushrooms", and this would be closed as subjective.

For a separate post: I have seen different guidelines on washing or not, as also posted by another user quoting a seller at their locale. Note that for food safety questions we are especially strict, i.e. when one manufacturer says “wash” and another “don’t wash”, it’s probably more about liability during packaging and transport and less about food safety?

@Stephie a question on "should mushrooms be washed" will be a duplicate.

Q: Is it safe to not wash mushrooms?

user33210Most chefs stress the fact that white button mushrooms, and others, should not be washed to be cleaned. They say to either lightly brush them or just pat them with a cloth or paper towel to get the "dirt" off to clean them, and then cook or eat them raw. Do not "wash" them, to clean them, because...

@rumtscho Ah. Good catch. In that case it’s probably even trickier to phrase a question for the deleted answer?

@Stephie I was assuming that The Unhandled Exception wants to write an answer describing the "start in water, finish in oil" technique, which they summarized as the core message in the original answer.

@Stephie apologies, I wasn't asking for you to change the basic rules of the site. While I don't agree (I feel my answer was a frame challenge to the question) I accept that it's deleted and wasn't asking for it to be undeleted
I was just wondering if people thought it contained useful information and I should try and salvage it somehow
Seems like not really
@rumtscho That's correct, as my biggest issue with the original question is that there shouldn't be water left over when cooking
But I am a developer, not a chef, so 😂 I'll leave my answer deleted
And yes the other part was "is it safe to not wash mushrooms" and maybe there's a regional difference. Doesn't matter too much to me, we wash mushrooms and cook them as described and find them delicious, so we'll continue to do so 🙂 Others can cook as they want

@TheUnhandledException there is no universal rule that there shouldn't be water left over.

Got it, I accept that this is my opinion and that my answer should have been deleted

it is not a bad thing to have your own opinion :) if we can find an alternative question to which the information in your answer would fit, that would be positive.
