I am totally not ashamed to admit that I will occasionally use a box mix for when I need a quick solution for a less-discerning audience (like that bake sale minor forgot to tell me about...) and I can always include an extra or two that makes all the difference. Today, I used a shot of espresso as part of the liquid, baked the batter in a small sheet pan instead of a loaf tin and covered the batter with cherries to let them sink into during baking. Good enough, by all means.
