11:52 AM
Lunch today: Tuna in a sesame crust.
What you can‘t see is the new set of plates I bought last week. ^_^

12:04 PM
@Stephie mmm, that looks good!
what plates did you get?

Wait a sec...

oh, Steinzeug. nice.
They look good with this subtle pattern.

Sold as dessert plate, but size-wise between dessert and dinner plates. Not exactly round and I immediately fell in love with the “unevenness”.

I also find plate sizes weird.
I currently eat from "dessert" plates at 23 cm.
The 27 cm "main course" plates wouldn't fit in my dishwasher.

Never let me into a Depot unattended during shopping week and with an extra 10x payback coupon. >.<

@Stephie haha, yes, I know the feeling! At least it wasn't Villeroy.

Ouch.
The Shopping Week offer meant -10€ with a minimum purchase of 30€. So six plates was a better deal than the four I had originally in the basket.

I think you read into that something I didn't mean. I (or my bank account) don't suffer from Villeroy-inflicted trauma :)
Sounds quite reasonable. And from time to time, you do want to refresh your table.

Nah, I just imagined what a “oh, I like these, let’s get them” at V&B would have done to my bank account!

@Stephie I know. I mean, they have done a really great job with Samarkand.
I might have spent some minutes or hours admiring it on their web site, working very hard not to notice the price label.
How does your family like the new evening-sky-blue dishes?

They like them! Even my Mom, who’s not a fan of blue.
But they won’t be the new “everyday” dishes, just for when I want to do something different. When a white plate (the standard set) won’t work as well. Think either deep reds or white sauce.
Or a variation of the panini at our favorite cafe I posted a week ago.
You get the idea.

12:21 PM
Yes, it's good to have some change once in a while
do you use a set for your everyday dishes, or an eclectic mixture?

I have a basic white set for everyday use. Actually a V&B workhorse. No extra “good china”. Plus an assortment of muesli bowls and a weird collection of mugs.
We bought the set when we figured that the minors were old enough to no longer constantly break an chip everything. Before that, it was more of a weird collection of “inherited from grandma” plus “we’re running out of plates, let’s get a few more.”

the "weird collection of mugs" doesn't surprise me
when we moved at work the last time, we got a whole corridor for our department, including a kitchen. But there was no budget to get it outfitted. I was in charge of getting it up and running, so the first thing I did was to ask colleagues if they have leftover stuff they can donate.
It is now bristling with mugs and knives :)

Lol.
why am I not surprised!?!
Doesn’t every office kitchen work that way ;-)
Have to run - a bit more office work before minor needs a taxi.

I think that every home kitchen works that way too - people have one set of plates, one of spoons and forks and serving knives, etc. But mugs get bought and gifted on the weirdest occasions, and many people buy a set of knives only to find out later that they only use the one.
OK, have a productive afternoon.
