Sue
12:00 AM
@Jefromi I've noticed a lot of community-owned posts.

I'm a big contributor! I have almost more than 4 questions and answers!
=)

Sue
One of the things that brought me here in the first place was that you also have a bunch of questions in the close vote and low quality answer queues and I wanted to know what makes them that way.

queue size isn't just about the questions, it's about how fast reviewers are clearing the queues
low quality is automatic
plus people's VLQ flags
close queue is all votes/flags

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe You have lots of cool stuff here - besides, I love giraffes!
@Jefromi Is there a reason for people's vtc flags, that's most common? Like dupes?

Sue
12:05 AM
@CaptainGiraffe Beautiful!!
@Jefromi Good point about how fast people are doing the reviewing. I just figured you have a steady stream of lots of questions that people want to see closed.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe Even better! Is it yours?????

These are all precious photos from my childhood.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe In person?

@Sue no, some things stay in the queue long enough for votes to age away
We only get 6 questions a day, and most aren't closed.

12:09 AM
=) Unfortunately no. Just stuff I gathered from impersonating the real Captain.

Sue
@Jefromi Interesting, I didn't even know votes could age away...
@CaptainGiraffe Do you love other animals too?

@Sue I do. Pigs, dogs are my favorites.
I try to protect Cod when they are heavily fished too.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe I love all animals, without exception! People make fun of me because I pick up ants or spiders or moths and put them outside. And I kill nothing - ever!
@CaptainGiraffe I love preservation. How do you do that?

I just donate to the baltic sea conservation peopl.e

Sue
I should confess I'm not a vegetarian though. I used to be, but have gotten lazy. No excuse there. I don't care if people eat meat, I care that the animals are treated properly. I really admire people who care enough to protect the world for animals.
@CaptainGiraffe Is that where you live?

12:17 AM
Yes.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe Cool! What country (if you want to say).

It isn't black and white though. Where I live we can grow livestock feed. We can't grow tomatoes and stuff.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe That's interesting.
Do you hang out in this room a lot?

Not really =)

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe I don't either, but people are really nice to me when I pop by.

12:22 AM
I find people to be quite nice overall. This place is no exception.
I tend to leave spots occupied by dunces.

Sue
@CaptainGiraffe I'm only active on a few sites but they all have really good chat communities. I have no social media accounts, so when I want to hang out with people I don't actually know, I come to my few favorite rooms. (Here, Gardening, and Great Outdoors).
I have to run, but I loved your pictures, and that you believe in conservation. Hydroponics is fascinating, and I hope you check out the information at GL.
@Jefromi If you're still, here - bye, and thanks! @rumtscho and @Stephie - it was good to say a quick hello!
ElendilTheTall I won't ping you because I noticed you had a migraine. Those are awful, so I hope you're feeling better! Hi to Jolenealaska and all the other folks here too!

@Sue bye!

Sue
@Jefromi :)

@Sue Bye bye, and I'll quite likely intrude on Gardening.

7 hours later…
7:58 AM
Good morning!

2 hours later…
10:05 AM
@Stephie morning

10:21 AM
Hi, how's the head?

Glad to hear. Are you back at work or home?

At work
I didn't go home

Dang. With a migraine? Phew, tough...

10:37 AM

Dragon hung over?

she stole it
I have a mouse

Huh?

10:44 AM
she stoll
it
realy?

Sorry, Jojo, can you explain very carefully and with simple words (like to a foreigner ^_^) why yor foot hurts?
Pretty please?

And how's a mouse involved.
A rodent or a computer gadget?

ow little mouuse, ow

Do you need help like NOW?
@ElendilTheTall help me out here!

10:49 AM
Morning guys! Is Jojo okay?

No idea.
Apparently not.

ummm.... yeah. Little mouse is not messing with me

So I don't have to figure out how to send an ambulance to your house from here?

@Stephie brobably not

@Jolenealaska Hey, I've done weirder things in my life. Not on such short notice, though.

10:54 AM
@Jolenealaska Did you hurt your foot?

@Jolenealaska have you taken some painkillers hon?

I can't get anything to agree with me
fucking dragon

We can deal with a fucked up dragon. Incoherent jojo has us worried!

incoherent jojo is quite normal

not this incoherent

11:02 AM
What tall said.

Ditto.

Really?

> ow little mouuse, ow

Really.

Really. Read back a little.

11:06 AM
I have a mouse, Everybody sats so
says

yeah... that's the kind of slightly random comment that has us mildly worried hon :)

Dragon sucks. everybody says so

what happened with your foot Jojo?

it's swollen

Since when is your foot swollen?

11:11 AM
three weeks
brb no dragon

@ElendilTheTall @Stephie Any idea?

I was just about to ask the same....
Can we figure out whether she took anything?

Tall asked but she didn't say.

I was here all the time since the "owwww".
Let's wait a bit and see which part of the confusion is dragon and which is jojo.

dragon is not responding
this is lame

11:23 AM
jojo, are you ok other than your foot?

foot sucks, so does dragon

yeah
but do you feel alright otherwise?
do you have a fever?

have you taken something for your foot?

not yet
jeez people

11:31 AM
@Jolenealaska Darling, that sounds a lot more like YOU than everything you said before!

good grief.
dragon will not comply... must recoot
You guys totally stopped
Suck
My foot is massively swollen

We are holding our breath and keeping our fingers crossed.

I went to the doctor today

It massively interferes with me cooking lunch ;-)

She said you all suck
She also told me that I don't have to be worried
Trump sucks
I'm not crazy
ffs
Really?
It's almost my bedtime and now Cerby has shown up.

11:55 AM
@Stephie check your e-mail?

Fine.
Good night.

@ElendilTheTall I was just going to ask if you were still here.

@Jolenealaska jojo, we're just trying to establish if you're ok
@Cindy check your e-mail too :)

@ElendilTheTall I'm not.

Ok - so do you think you could get some medical attention?
Do you need us to try and get some for you?

12:00 PM
I am not amused;

@Jolenealaska, can you see that you are very angry right now?

@Jolenealaska We're genuinely concerned for you.

Maybe you're all right. I'm angry.
Good night

eek, don't go
@Jolenealaska have you had a drink or a smoke? we're trying to determine whether we need to get you some help or not
we're not being patronising, we're worried

12:18 PM
you don't, but thanks

have you spoken to someone about your foot?

Only the doctor today.

and she said not to worry?

No, she didn't say that.

what did she say?

12:23 PM
She said that I only need to be concerned about things I am concerned about

that doesn't sound very helpful

It isn't

other than your foot feeling painful, how are you feeling?

I don't know
I seriously want to take him out.

take who out hon?

12:29 PM
Who??

you said "I seriously want to take him out"

Do you mean on a date or shoot whoever 'him' is?

Yes, I'd kill him if I could

Trump

12:34 PM
This is why we feel you're not 100% jojo
not that you'd like to take trump out, but that that comment just kinda came out of nowhere

Well, perhaps I am not 100% myself. In fact, I would kill him. He is vile.

probably best not to keep repeating that in a public space though sweetie
do you feel like you could sleep? sounds like it might be an idea
put that foot up

I have been watching Trump since he won the Republican nomination. I know him. He's beyond vile. He actually frightens me. I believe that people will die because of his words.
In two weeks

well, we'll see
hopefully it won't come to that

I went to the grocery store about two weeks ago. What I heard in the checkout line was abhorrent.
Trump is trying to scare us.

12:49 PM
Everyone is trying to scare us
Politics these days is all about fear and loathing

politics, advertising, the media....
ARE YOU AS GOOD LOOKING AS YOU COULD BE?!

I would never vote for a four

a four?

12:51 PM
four what?

Have you been paying attention?

as much as I ever do, yes

Looks scale 1 - 10.

@Jolenealaska Oh, I see
sorry
Obama is probably the best looking president y'all have had

In Trump's world, women do not matter if they score less than a five.
Considering the worldwide issue of women's issues, Trump can jump off a cliff.

12:59 PM
are you watching Trump videos atm or something jojo?

I realised that looks only matter if you're dating someone, and I consider the ability to deal with sarcasm somewhat more important.

@ElendilTheTall I have been watching election news.

@Jolenealaska I normally don't bother until after I vote
and the last time, I went to bed cause the folks I wanted to see do better didn't do that well

I meant to vote today, but I didn't. I'll vote tomorrow.
And I really am way past my bedtime.
Goodnight all

night hon, hope you feel better

1:05 PM
G'night Jojo. Sleep well.

Night, jojo! Sweet dreams!

4 hours later…
5:16 PM
Hi @rumtscho!

hi @Stephie, how are you?

Ha! I'd thought I'd seen your avatar blink ;-)
Busy, quite busy.

harvest time?

Re-structuring the household patterns and preparing to re-enter the job market.
Polished / updated my CV and such.

household patterns?
and job search :( I am glad that you will get to have a job, but the search process itself is never pleasant.

5:21 PM
Yeah. Like who's responsible for what and who needs to help with what tasks. Babysitter, cleaning lady.... And hubby started his new job this month.
@rumtscho right now I'm sticking to "internal" jobs within my company.
Hope I won't have to expand the search radius.

Ah, this is of course easier.
so, nobody has decided to snap you yet?

Not really... Ok, a bit.

and I didn't know that your hubby is changing jobs. What is he doing now?

Same company, diffent corner. From production like halfway to R&D.

And what do you want to do?

5:27 PM
I'm looking into (Software) PM - in other words, being a nanny, only this time for grownups and projects ;-)

Cool. This is the job I've been doing since the end of August, and I understand now why you want it. Intense, but rewarding, and never boring.
I've been thinking of your family lately - how did it go with your grandma and mother? Did they recover well from that matter some months ago?

Depends on how you define "well". She's back home, but definitively not able to fend for herself any more.
So my parents have been cooking extra meals almost every day.

awww :(
how does she take it? Does it bother her, or is she accepting?

For my mom, it's been tough, but she learns how to emotionally distance herself from granny's irrational behaviour. And define clear limits. Gran has a hard time accepting that she's not "in control" any longer. She used to be a rather string and dominant woman.
^strong
But she's clearly going downhill, mentally.

6:04 PM
@Stephie Do you mean project or product manager by PM? (As Stack Overflow is going to be hiring the latter pretty soon)

@TimPost if Stack Exchange is keeping its policy of "independent contractor", Stephie cannot do it
it is illegal in Germany.

We have remote employees in Germany. I believe they're technically hired by the London office.
But it's all legal.

@TimPost is that an offer? ;-)

Ah OK. I applied for that position last year, and at that time, I voiced my concern. Your HR person told me "no, you will be an independent contractor, there is no other option. But don't worry, it is no way this could ever be illegal".

@Stephie Well, if you have time to shop and look around, it's defintely an invite to explore applying once the jobs are posted
PMs with experience with our software are generally the most desirable. While the outside perspective someone unfamiliar with it brings is valuable, the time it takes to get up to speed is drastically reduced and you generally have a good idea of stuff you want to work on.
@rumtscho That's strange, I'll have to check into that. I know we've got at least one person in Berlin happily (and legally) working from home.

6:10 PM
But like @rumtscho I probably prefer the relative safety and comfort of a German permanent contract. And I have a contract atm, just need a matching position.

If you mean Ben, I talked to him too, but he was considered an exception because of being among the first ten employees.
But whatever. If your company has by now recognized that you have to offer standard employment in Germany, then there is no problem for anybody applying in the future.

@rumtscho I'm going to find out about it because now I'm insanely curious to know for certain.

@rumtscho, out of curiosity - what exactly was the legal issue? I mean, you can do freelancing here in Germany?

@Stephie Scheinselbstst'ndigkeit

Ah. That's what I thought.

6:15 PM
funnily, the HR person from SE was not the only one to disbelieve it. To this day, Jolene is convinced that this law cannot exist, because if it did, nobody in such a country would ever get employed.

I remember that part ;-)

indeed, you were around here already when that happened
Well, for me, I'm not terribly sad, because I enjoy staying part of science. So I like the job I got now, despite the pay difference.

@Stephie Has it been quiet?

@Cindy so far....

@Stephie Good.
Hopefully that's a good thing. :)

6:27 PM
Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Me too.

How's your day so far?

Is it the proper time of year to do these things?
Maybe the hiring budgets for this year are getting low, and they are waiting to get their budget for next year confirmed so they can have you

@rumtscho did you see the transcript from around lunchtime?

@Stephie oh, yes. Sorry. I thought we are still talking about your position.

6:29 PM
@Stephie Just okay.

It was a good thing that I saw it 2 hours later, or I may have done something too.

@rumtscho I know that there are openings. Plus extra demand that's not budgeted yet.
@rumtscho We were a team of three ;-)
@Cindy mine is luckily winding down. A bit of kitchen cleanup and then I'm done.
Hubby was unexpectedly home, so I put a bit more effort into lunch than usual.

@rumtscho We're still a bit concerned.

I am also concerned. But there are good explanations.

@Stephie I'll just be starting dinner in a little while.

6:34 PM
What are you serving?

Meatloaf and either rice or mashed potatoes and something green, maybe asparagus.
@rumtscho You may have more insight than us.

Nothing concrete, just that I hope it's something benign and self-reversible.

@Cindy You have no idea how jealous I am that you can get asparagus year-round!

We can, but it's like everything else. It's better during the normal growing season. Much fresher.
Still good, though. We like to roast it.

Yum!

6:41 PM
Hubby has been wanting a meatloaf. So I'm going to make a larger one so he will have some to take to work.

Good move. Leftovers are an asset.

Always for him. He has a microwave, convection oven, single burner, etc. at work. So he can have a good lunch.
i wish I could take leftovers. But I really don't like eating in my car.

So have a picknick once it's warmer again!

Not many places for that. At least not near the stores I go to. But I do have one store that has tables and chairs available, even though they don't serve any food.

I love "leftovers, grains and greens" salads.

6:50 PM
Yes, salads are great! I often eat them for lunch. I'm definitely not much for fast food.

I feel I've "outgrown" fastfood. And I don't mean my waistline.

most of fastfood isn't worth it, but döner <3

Until two weeks ago, I would have agreed wholeheartedly.

Doner is in a different class! :)

Then I had the first that literally made me sick.

6:53 PM
what happened two weeks ago_
ooh.

Oh no. :(

It's a new owner in an established place. Probably they haven't all routines and such down to pat yet.

@Stephie fast food for me means only letting pasta dough rest 15 minutes instead of 30. I worked in fast food when I was younger and it's just utterly disgusting.
I was so happy when I finally got a job in a real kitchen.

@TimPost all of fast food is disgusting to you?

@TimPost I can imagine!

6:58 PM
I dislike stereotypical fast food like McD, have never liked the smell and taste outside of any hygiene aspects etc. But some of them like Subways tend to be OK for me. A bit on the cardboard side, but nothing worse than that.

@rumtscho The majority of it is, at least American fast food. But food able to be prepared fast isn't "fast food" to me, what matters is how you prepare it, where it came from, and what you put in it to stretch or preserve it.
