9:50 AM
Is it just me or is Twitch basically becoming an online brothel?

o_O
I generally don't go on twitch, I had noticed in the past some ... females, who clearly weren't there for the gaming

I find it so weird. An acquaintance of mine is streaming, and she said she deliberately doesn't use a webcam at all, because she doesn't want to be associated with "those streamers"

Also the income distribution for female streamers is insanely uneven
the top 2% earn like 95% of all income

....
that follows global trends extremely well infact.
and youtube
and onlyfans
etc

9:58 AM
Are you at all surprized?

It's just the natural progression of things. Sexuality has become completely commodified
Go into a high school in the US today and ask the girls there how many of them plan on whoring themselves out on OnlyFans

That's not even a joke
How many girls, percentage wise, do you think have exactly that planned? 25% 33% 50%?
Imagine telling an 18 year old she can earn more than her parents by selling nude pictures of herself. How many do you think would do it?

I do notice something however - TV basically 'died' due to the seeming proliferation of people who exploit the fact they're not intelligent, whereas I think most viewers, at least for awhile, wanted intelligent content.

Will the same happen with twitch, it eventually dying, because those who wanted to watch gamers, find they can't?
If I was female, I'd prob do it
tho, things would likely be different if I was female, I dunno

10:03 AM
@djsmiley2kStaysInside All it costs you is your dignity.

If you feel it's devaluing, sure

And I agree with your assessment on TV. I have a more sinister opinion there as well, but mods are probably awake, so I'll save that for later :D

if you don't? Then it doesn't.

If you don't feel that showing yourself naked to strangers is devaluing, then you've already lost.
Reminds me of this interview with a porn actress, who was really distressed, because she couldn't find a boyfriend.

Again, that's your viewpoint.

10:05 AM
Yes, it is.
She said as soon as she said what her occupation was, they told her they weren't interested and left.
Like oh gee, what a surprise. "My job is to get fucked by countless strangers, so that thousands and thousands of people online can watch it." Completely surprising why someone wouldn't jump on that opportunity immediately.
I wonder how many women would accept a male porn actor as their boyfriend. "Darling, I'm not cheating on you - it's my job to have sex with countless women every day."

Q: Unable to remove -rf folder

mrrobot1o1So I recently discovered a folder named -rf in my folder directory, and I am unable to remove it from my device, after several failed attempts, I am worried if this is any malware? its persistence is very aggressive.

I just love bug bounty hunters like this

mv ./old ../
rm ./* -rf
mv ../old ./
:D
if rm ./* fails, use find .... --delete :D
or hell, rename it first
mv ./-rf ./lolololol
disclaimer: I've not tried any of these in this specific situation.

If you write --, then every following argument will be considered a directory name and not an argument
Precisely for a situation like this
Or hell, just use the desktop manager for it :D

10:22 AM
that also works :)
As I can't even get xargs working, i can hardly talk I guess :K

10:41 AM
xargs doesn't work well when you have a lot of long arguments
You should use it to loop over your arguments instead

Anonymous
@MechMK1 Yeah, it pretty much is an online brothel.

@J-- How dignifying

Anonymous
TL;DR - you cannot wear a bikini on stream. However, there are no rules against going to the beach and wearing one for example. So, to game this system women are bathing in their house or outside (in hot tubs for example) so they can show a lot of skin, including cleavage while remaining under the guidelines.

Anonymous
This attracts a bunch of coomers who donate endless amounts of money to see ass and cleavage.

Honestly, I find it disgusting
As I said above, an acquaintance of mine isn't using a webcam at all, just because of this
Remember when Twitch was about videogames?

Anonymous
10:56 AM
Well, I don't think we should be blaming the women taking advantage of it.

Anonymous
The problem is Twitch, they should do something about it. If I was a woman and could do that to make hundreds of thousands, I sure would.

Anonymous
But yeah, you're right. It does cause an issue with how people interact with women on the platform, whether they are a "titty" streamer or not.

Anonymous
That is a serious issue, and it is a serious issue for women.

Anonymous
I don't disagree with you. But ultimately, a rule change needs to come from Twitch.

Anonymous
They have so far not indicated that they find this a concern so I am guessing such a rule change will not come.

Anonymous
10:59 AM
As someone who has been on Twitch since Justin TV, I very much do not like the way that platform has gone.

Anonymous
I've not liked it for a long time.

Anonymous
Unfortunately, Twitch is by far the biggest platform and to be honest, it has the best content on it by a longshot.

Anonymous
Not to mention the streamers that I have been watching since Justin TV still sttream on the platform so.

11:13 AM
@MechMK1 hm, well i just wanted say '1000' random files, from a selection of 100k plus.
so i was putting it through shuf, getting 5
and that failed ;D
then tryign to pass the filenames to xargs, to create a ln -s for each file
and failing due to line terminations.
At least, that's what I think was happening, I'm not really sure.

@J-- The problem is, Twitch won't do shit, because if they ban titty streams, they'll get yelled at "for destroying the lives of women". Which ironically implies women aren't able to be entertaining without being sexual.

and because twitch is making plenty from this

Anonymous
I don't think that is the reason they won't, Mech.,

If it makes money + and is within the rules they've set already...

Anonymous
They won't because of what djsmiley just wrote.

Anonymous
11:15 AM
They are making a fucking fortune.

To do something makes them moving the goalposts
and no one likes that.

Anonymous
They don't care about the rules when they're making that much from it.

Anonymous
The whole thing is retarded, but I am not going to waste my energy battling Twitch.

Look at how much uproar there is, every time youtube changes something about adverts/views/payment/the algro.

Anonymous
The platform has been going down hill for years.

Anonymous
11:16 AM
It is what it is.

I thought the rule was 'no nipples'
but I've never actually checked.

Anonymous
No, you're not allowed to just wear a bikini in your house anymore. They made it against TOS.

Anonymous
But if you do it in a bath, then it's fair game.

Thats.... weird.
:D

Anonymous
Or if you wear a sexy outfit while doing yoga

Anonymous
11:17 AM
then thats fair game too

Anonymous
its all just tiny loopholes.

Anonymous
its been going on for years.

"So you're telling me I'm not allowed to stream wearing only two nipple pasties and a piece of paper covering my vagina? How do you expect me to get viewers then?!"

sounds like the rules weren't really thought about in the first place.
Classic cancel culture and mucho funny

Anonymous
No, they weren't.

11:17 AM
@djsmiley2kStaysInside Because nobody though their gaming website would become an online brothel

Anonymous
You have to remember that Amazon bought Twitch.

Anonymous
They came into it with pre-existing rules which didn't make a lot of sense either.

@MechMK1 Oh, i'm sure if you actually thought about it, you'd realise it would happen

Anonymous
They made a new TOS without much thought quickly.

Any video streaming site + payment
that's what pornsites had been doing for years prior

11:18 AM
Yeah but why go on a gaming site when you could do the same on a porn site?

because of peoples views

Anonymous
Contrary to popular belief, Twitch has always had double standards.

So you feel better about "not technically doing porn"?

such as yours :D
exactly

Anonymous
Even before Amazon owned the site. People forget that.

Anonymous
11:19 AM
Ever since it became "Twitch" from Justin TV, the rules have been filled with double standards.

How is this legit?

Anonymous
Those double standards have gotten worse year by year.

Anonymous
Well, because what are they going to do, Mech?

Anonymous
Her defense will be: "Twitch staff are sexualising me".

it's legit, because twitch says it's legit.

Anonymous
11:20 AM
Then she'll file a lawsuit and probably win.

First of all, require gameplay

Anonymous
No, it doesn't.

Literally, make it a rule that streams need to include gameplay

Anonymous
Just Chatting is a valid category.

@MechMK1 does the streamer need to be the one playing?

11:20 AM
Not anymore

Anonymous
It has been for 4 years or more now. They don't want to leave streamers or content out.

can I have AI play 'snake' in the corner?

Anonymous
You don't need gameplay! Twitch hasn't for a long time.

What the fuck is this bullshit?

Anonymous
Creative and Just Chatting have been around for a long time at this point.

11:21 AM
So twitch legitmised what she does, lol
that's why it's legit

Anonymous
Yes, a long time before she did it.

Anonymous
People need to stop assuming "titty" streams are a new thing. They're not.

Look, I don't mind "creative" stuff, like people streaming when they draw or such

I almost feel this is why onlyfans is doing so well, because it's not 'quite' a pornsite

Anonymous
It has been on the platform since 2014, maybe even earlier.

11:22 AM
"Not quite?" They have literal child porn there
Oh, forgive me. I meant "nude photos of minors"

hm, that's not why most people use it
at least, from what I understand

No, they use it to jerk off

like you said, 90% of the money is like the 2% of providers

Anonymous
This reminds me of the whole Twitter thing.

Anonymous
You can post porn on Twitter, at least, last I remember you can.

Anonymous
11:25 AM
There's been an ongoing battle for... Over a decade about whether porn should be allowed on Twitter or not.

Anyone here used opgenie?
@J-- it's much like drink/drugs/whatever illegal thing in $country is

Anonymous
I mean, I don't give a shit what people post anywhere on the internet, it's whatever.

Anonymous
The reason it is different for Twitch is because its primary focus has always been gaming.

Anonymous
It creates a really bad environment for women when there is soft-core porn on the site continuously .

s/focus/users

Anonymous
11:27 AM
It basically fuels sexually harassment.

yup
twitches primary focus is making money
the users primary want gaming

Anonymous
Well, of course

Anonymous
But you can say that about any business.

Anonymous
As far as the content of the site goes, the primary focus is that it is gaming, or at least, it was.

2:14 PM
well this is annoying
opsgenie not creating alerts from my api call, but I've no way of debugging it that I can see :S

1 hour later…
3:27 PM
and I fixed it, by deleting, and re-adding, the same thing D:

What would you recommend for a NAS, where Windows, MacOS and Linux have to access the files? SMB?

4 hours later…
7:12 PM
Folks, could anyone point me to a write-up or a video which describes what are the various fields [typical fields?] in an X.509 certificate, and what are they used for?
I understand the basic idea behind certificates. So, I do understand the public key field and the signature field.
But there's a lot of other fields in an X.509 certificate, and I want to understand those too.

@NickAlexeev like which fields? ssl.com/faqs/what-is-an-x-509-certificate explains the main ones
How would I calculate how long it would take for say Amazon to crack a HMAC-bcrypt hash of a 52 bit code?

max num of combinations x how long it takes to process 1 / cracking thread num ?

7:29 PM
@djsmiley2kStaysInside yes but how do i know "how long it takes to process 1" and "cracking thread num" ?

7:39 PM
my new noise maker machine: vitling.xyz/toys/acid-banger
it generates randomized electronic music... and it's good
@MechMK1 SMB is a good one...
or webdav
ah, you said NAS... so SMB is the way to go.
if wasn't windows, you could use NFS
and if you want to go ancient tech, FTP works too

@ThoriumBR Going to vibe to this now

2 hours later…
10:12 PM
@ThoriumBR whoa, that's awesome

I keep it on background now
it's the exact kind of music I use to concentrate

I have no idea how it works, if JS has oscillators or ways to generate waves and music, if it has samples, or if it's some kind of black magic

I believe it's html5 sound API... but I haven't looked into the code...

yes, it uses functions like "createOscillator". Geez, today browsers/JS/HTML are like swiss army knives

I've found Math.random(), window.AudioContext, createDynamicsCompressor(), and a couple nice sound generating functions on the code

11:18 PM
Web Audio API... yet another cool thing that I was totally going to learn 7 or 8 years ago...
