And if I could read faster than I write, the cache would be full permanently, and if I write faster than I read, then the cache would usually be empty

After thinking about it a bit more, it might actually be an interesting answer (voted up), although I'm not sure I understand all the details. If you really only have to trust the CPU (using encryption), then everything in between could be untrusted and it wouldn't matter
