@JBis why would I need an ssh tunnel if I cant run any commands?

It's been a long time since the latest worldwide critical security vulnerability. I can't wait for the next one.

well, why do you think forest has gone for a week? Im sure they are in an ancient temple with indiana jones to find the ultimate vulnerability, predicted by the mayas in 1442

@BenoitEsnard I think we have gotten a bit indifferent by now. Foreshadow was kinda big and it hasn't gotten the attention it "deserves" imho

10:47 AM
@TomK. What do you mean?

11:26 AM
@JBis what do you want to accomplish with your ssh tunnel?

11:45 AM
@TomK. SOCKS Proxy to encrypt traffic

Any hardware expert here?
NVidia annonced GTX2080, and I would like to estimate how much powerful it will be for hash-cracking compared to GTX1080 :o
(is that a good question for the main site?)

12:19 PM
@BenoitEsnard I wouldn't say so. Isn't it esentially a math question?

Well, I guess if you need to understand the basic aspects of GPU computations before doing the maths

I think a good question would be, "How do I determine the number of hashes than can be cracked per second with a GPU?"
not sure if there isn't a dupe on the site

GTX 1080 had 8.228 TFlops in simple precision, 2080 has 10.1 TFlops so I guess it will "only" be a +20% hashrate improvement
Not sure if that's the right way to calculate this, but I guess people will benchmark as soon as the GPUs will be available

wouldn't that be a 25% improvement?

Well you're right :D

12:30 PM

@TomK. has been awarded the GPU expert badge!

yay me!

I always thought that 'not much good' was just an Internet meme... Turns out people actually type like that.

12:48 PM
I think I won't be using the word "much" anymore since it was used in the such wow, very something, much cool meme

@BenoitEsnard much sad :(

very English

2:25 PM
@Arminius are you familiar with the new BSI standards?

2:45 PM
@TomK. I'm not too familiar with infosec standards, neither ISO nor what the BSI does. Is there something in particular you wanted to discuss?

3:35 PM
@Arminius yeah. I have a pretty specific question and I was hoping for some insight from a native german speaker who is also familiar with the new BSI standards. but no problem, it's not too urgent. I'll find someone
and I guess it's too specific for sec.se

Q: Strange history: colleague at work

jennifer ruursI have a colleague at work who is using a macbook air. He called me that he was hacked. I try to copy his key private files. because he was busy coping his personal files. He yelled that the Dutch AIVD is trying to hack him. People have sent him to hospital for that(the Dutch police). He told ...

"He hacked in the past the hackers that hacked him and he found that the hackers where located in zoetermeer."
I have no words

Well I think there are a few native German users, so maybe you're lucky

It's amazing how many issues and misconceptions in infosec are rooted in bad terminology
Dumb example: The idea that you visit a website seems to make it much harder for people to grasp concepts of webapp security
Admittedly, a bit of a <s>stoned</s> weekend thought
Also, not sure why strikethrough HTML doesn't work in chat

7:53 PM
@Arminius im much more amazed about the "weekend" part, since it is ... Tuesday
