Hi @ThomasPornin, I could use your view on some crypto stuff.
It looks iffy to me although I have no concrete reasons why. Is this insecure at all?
01:46
@Xander You say that as though there is a difference.

5 hours later…
06:47
@TerryChia oh yeah, that should be ral nice. The Macallan is always a very solid choice, even though I usually prefer it more smokey.
@TerryChia heeeey, I'm not a snob, I've just learned to appreciate some of finer whisky.
Mind you, growing up in a Merkan family, I thought Jack Daniels was the bees knees, and Chivas Regal is for when you want to go upscale.
@AviD There really is an XKCD for every situation in life eh?
@TerryChia I think there is actually an xkcd for that.
@ton.yeung @ThomasPornin @RоryMcCune also, dont forget about sharing - users are wont to copy paste the URL into an email - or just use an app to do that automatically.
@ton.yeung Of course - consider "50 shades of Gray". Or "Twilight". You really dont want anybody to know if you've been reading that, do you?
@Xander oh gawd yes. It's painful.
I've chosen just to ignore it for the most part, the IL chapter is kinda too independent anyway...
As one of the leaders said on the lists: "My opinion on this whole topic is.... Lets get some work done on the Coding Guide."
@Iszi oh man. If you get @TildalWave to put that together, I am so using that as my avatar. Hell, I'd print that on a tshirt.
@RоryMcCune didja see that Mark Curphey is tweeting about jumping in to reset the whole thing? :D
07:02
@AviD So, I'll be opening the bottle tonight probably. How do you usually drink it? With ice/without etc?
@TerryChia personally I dont usually do with ice, unless its a cheaper whisky. I will add a splash of water if it is cask strength.
@AviD Ok, so what does cask strength mean?
with a good whisky, I usually prefer it straight, room temperature (or even slightly warmed in my hand - this depends on your glass). But for this you really need @RoryAlsop level of snobbishness proper whisky drinking.
I think the bottle I got qualifies as a cheaper whisky? It certainly isn't expensive.
@TerryChia it would say it on the bottle if it is.
Cask strength (also known as barrel proof) is a term used in whisky-making to describe the level of alcohol-by-volume (abv) strength that is used for a whisky during its storage in a cask for maturation – typically in the range of 60–65% abv. Most bottled whisky is diluted with water to bring its strength (i.e., its abv level) down to a level that makes it less expensive to produce and more palatable to most consumers, usually about 40% abv – a level that is the statutory maximum in some countries, and the statutory minimum in others. The degree of dilution is said to bring out differe...
07:05
@AviD Ahhh, yeah it isn't that.
@TerryChia no no, Macallan is very good whisky. Even their cheapest bottle (I think what you got isnt that) is at least decent++.
@AviD I see. Good to know I picked a decent one when choosing at random then. :P
If its new to you, I would say experiment. Find the way that you enjoy it most.
@TerryChia ahh, you were probably subconsciously influenced by all our talk here before :-)
@AviD Heh, I think I do remember you guys crapping on Jack Daniels on a frequent basis so there's that.
Hey Jack is a fine bourbon. But its just not the same as a good Islay single malt scotch whisky.
07:09
@TerryChia Jack Daniels isn't bad IMO, especially the Gentleman's Jack or the Silver Select
oh yeah, the gentleman's is nice. I had a veeerrryy good flight to the US once thanks to Gentleman's.
one thing I don't like is J&B
@LucasKauffman an essential ingredient for Three Wise Men.
@AviD I thought that was Johnny Walker, Jim Bean and Jack Daniels?
@LucasKauffman yeah?
07:12
I mean J&B
Justerini & Brooks is a fine wine business selling wines to merchants, restaurants, hotels and private clients. It is known for developing the J&B blended Scotch whisky. The company is owned by multinational Diageo plc. Products J&B Rare Blend, the standard J&B whisky brand, is a blend of forty-two Scottish malt and grain whiskies. Single malts Knockando, Auchroisk and Glen Spey are at its heart. In terms of flavour, its closest competitor is Cutty Sark. Furthermore, J&B's portfolio includes: * J&B Reserve 15-year-old * Jet 12-year-old * Exception (a pure malt limited to France) It is ...
oh duh, I read that as "JB", assumed you meant Jim.
@LucasKauffman yeah, familiar with it - it was a staple in my 'merkan house...
@LucasKauffman Heh. There are some non-standard variants to that...
The name of the Three Wise Men cocktail is derived from the recipe, which blends three types of whiskey together. Each brand usually included is named for its maker (the "wise men" of the title). Recipe ;In a tumbler, pour: :1 part Scotch Whisky (e.g., Johnnie Walker Red or Black Label). :1 part Tennessee Whiskey (e.g., Jack Daniels). :1 part Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey (e.g., Jim Beam White or Black Label). :Serve either neat or on the rocks, according to taste. Variations *A Southern Wisemen is made with 1 part of Tennessee Whiskey, 1 part of Kentucky Bourbon, and 1 part of Tequila (e.g.,...
> A Three Wisemen Go Hunting, or "Three Wisemen on a Hunt" consists of the traditional recipe with an additional 1 part Wild Turkey (bourbon).
haha
I liked:
> A Three Wisemen on Acid consists of the traditional recipe with an equal part of Absinthe.
cant say I've ever had absinthe (except for the PT tool), but it amused me.
It's been a while since I drank Absinthe, although you can't find any anymore which still contain absynticum
@AviD It's quite nice actually, especially when you burn sugar in it
07:22
@AviD Huh... you know what.. HIMYM may actually been where I heard the name "Macallan" from.
No, that's Glen McKenna.
Ah. Sounds the same. :P
Hey Miley Cyrus, I see you like to twerk. I have a new dance for you to try; it's called "POP POP RET."
this is a classic:
did anyone here ever go to a fysiotherapist?
i went yesterday to check on the muscles around my heart, he corrected 3 ribs, and it hurts like hell :I
07:38
@Lighty that means its working.
@AviD The heart or the ribs?
hehe, I meant the physiotherapy, but sure, those too.
@Lighty "ne kraker" :p
it does, the therapist thinks its my back, since it was really 'stuck' there, the muscles on the chest around the heart are connected to the back (and the spine all the way to head, explains my headaches), so he 'cracked' about my whole spine too
ne kraker? @lucas
07:45
@Adnan I strongly disapprove of this
can't even spell inadequate
@Adnan I'm guessing spelling isn't a prerequisite to feminism?
inb4
i wanted to make a boob comment about feminism, bout i would be eaten alive by atleast 2 persons in the room here, so i'm just going to grab some tea and enjoy my sarcasticly day with PHP
@kalina I thought it was some kind of hipstery combination of "inadequately quiet".
@Lighty What exactly does "sarcasticly day" mean?
07:47
that i do not enjoy my day with PHP :3
@TerryChia Nope. There's only one prerequisite for it.
@Adnan Bewbs?
beeewwwbbbssshhhhhhhhhhhh
"This is a great forum. I'd like to join"
"Do you hate men?"
"No, but I strive for society where we're all given equal rights and opportunities for a good life regardless of our gender. I think that men rights is as important as women rights"
"SALVE TO THE PATRIARCHY. GET OUT!"
@Adnan False. One can be a feminist without them.
07:51
@Adnan no no no, it's not about hating men
And I dont mean just Angelina Jolie....
one does not need to be a victim of injustice to fight the injustice.
@Adnan Salves are generally considered to be good things. :)
@AviD "BIGOTED ASSHOLE""
@TerryChia don't ruin it, he was trying to be funny
he doesn't get so close to succeeding this often, don't dampen his moment
@kalina Not even close to what I was trying
07:52
I've already made my punchline, it's too late
Though it's funny you see comedy in these matters
@kalina I was on a punch line once. Not as much fun as you might think.
@Adnan I see comedy in a lot of things
@AviD It is, if you're on the other side of it
@Adnan true. I've done that too.
07:54
@kalina When you're here, I do too.
har har
@AviD There's also the shooting line. Now that's where all the fun is.
"Please don't hurt me! I have a wife and children"
Hehehe.. classic
@Lighty Worm World. Haaaaaallelujah.. booom!
Anybody played that game? No?
i was pointing at Monthy Python....
shame on you D:
07:56
@Adnan heh, that I wouldnt know. We did our shooting 30 km away from us.
@AviD Very impersonal. I like to see the dude's face. If you can't see the white in their eyes, it doesn't count.
what should I do today
@kalina Get bored a little, and then got get some cookies from Subway
Then go home and get bored a little more
Ideas will come after that
mmm subway
> Fortunately though, widespread sarcasm and insincerity make it easier for sociopaths to "pass" in society. It allows me to speak my mind quite sincerely and have people laugh it off, apparently because no one wants to believe that someone would admit to thinking such bloodless things. I regularly comment on my desire to exploit my admirers or to kill cute animals, and I don't even need to laugh or smile for people to think I am joking.
One my favourite parts in a book I'm reading
Sort of reminds me of @kalina's fire thing.
08:03
yes
nobody expects that I would actually ever retaliate with fire
but under the right circumstances I wouldn't even hesitate
the rest of the time, people just assume I'm quirky
@Adnan Those were fun times
OH NO
CHATEXCHANGE WENT DOWN BRIEFLY
I'm bored
no I'm not, I'm going back to sleep, back later...
You must not be doing the drill right ...
Oh ok. This is the IS page - back alter
08:25
@Lighty that's what we call them
@kalina don't you have to work?
@RoryAlsop how come you didnt close this one outright?

Q: Two-factor authentication Without Mobile Phone

EngineerTwo-factor authentication is based on the notion of “something you know” and “something you have”. Is it absolutely necessary for having your mobile phone involved in two-factor authentication, which is used by all the big companies, like Google etc.? Instead of relying on a third-party device, ...

even if it wasnt spam - and it totally is - it is such a wide open discussiony q. Not to mention practically nonsensical.
Though @atk's answer there is brilliant, even bear-worthy. I am favoriting just for that... that idea of image-password as another factor keeps coming over and over again, in different formats. This is a great summary of the issues with it.
@TerryChia @Xander speaking of which, I do need to order a new package.
@AviD ahem
Pacific it is.
> Indonesia Sulawesi Kalossi is a rare bean with a full bodied, chocolatey richness similar to Sumatra, and very smooth. Sulawesi coffee has unusual depth and complexity. Bold and full-bodied, this is a multi-dimensional, highly aromatic coffee with prominent herbal, nut and pleasantly sweet wood notes. Very low acidity.
This is high-grown coffee. I wonder if that is anything like high-born.
@AviD You do realize that since @Xander isn't here at the moment, no one understands what you are talking about?
@Xander is an actual person?
I'm just talking out loud to myself here. I dont expect anyone to be listening.
08:41
@CodesInChaos Indeed
@AviD So basically being @Simon?
@LucasKauffman nope, I don't have a day job as such
ouch. point taken.
@AviD born-high
@kalina for the unelucidated, I am referring to how they call nobility in GoF.
08:45
nobody cares about game of thrones
Continuum!
I only care about Ygritte.
Why did she have to die?! WHY?!
also, maybepossiblypotentiallyalthoughIwasn'ttoohotonthefirstseasonbutithadsomeinteres‌tingideas Under the Dome
Nope, not reading that.
@kalina y u no have job?
@LucasKauffman Because she's a princess
08:51
@Adnan And she has slaves lackeys do the work for her.
yawn Morning.
@Adnan valar morghulis
@TerryChia Where's the coin?
accurate @Adnan
08:55
Also, I need to catch up on GoT.
snape dies
@TerryChia I can help you with that. He dies
and she dies as well
@Adnan Don't worry. I read the books. I already know who dies.
@TerryChia EVERYBODY DIES
Spoiler alert: everyone.
08:56
@TerryChia You're one of those, aren't ya?
@LucasKauffman I didn't say I don't have a job, I just said I don't have a day job
@Lucas Well, looks like she's offering.
Say no.
@Kisu I was just complimented on my perfume. Dude, my shirt smells like you! What have you done to it?
@kalina are you soliciting?
@LucasKauffman no
@Adnan this happens
That's what someone who's soliciting say when they're asked "Are you soliciting?"
08:59
a woman's touch seeps into the lives of everybody we frequently interact with
3
Did anybody catch the flags?
:D
I saw them. wat.
@Kisu Hey, wanna frequently interact tonight?
2
is that a euphemism?
@kalina Do you have to ask?
It's @Adnan in The DMZ....
09:03
I wasn't really asking
me stating "is that a euphemism" happens almost as frequently as me stating "I am bored"
i think adnan meant with interacting at night, is to fight who owns the blankets
@kalina if you watched it, you would.
@Adnan hey! spoilers!
Jun 12 at 15:10, by kalina
I am using "penis" as a replacement word for "euphemism"
need to include all instances of "penis" also
09:07
you're skewing the results to make yourself correct
I hate it when you do that
I am not!
i wanted to make a bad penis joke about kalina now.... but FEI would be jealous if i did
now you're getting all defensive, you must be guilty
@Lighty This is funny
09:08
victory \o/
@kalina I can't win anyway. >.>
@AviD Spoiler alert: Hodor became the new king of Westeros.
2
I really wanna see you guys here after 2-3 years.
It should be hilarious!
@TerryChia GRR is saving time, so he's writing the next book from Hodor's point of view.
@AviD I think I mentioned that here before.
09:09
> Hodor hodor hodor, hodor hodor hodor. Hodor! Hodor hodor, hodorhodorhodor.
@TerryChia yes yes, I am reminding you.
@AviD Doesn't really save time though, you still have to hodor the whole plot and everything.
@Lighty I dont think there is anything funny about bad penises.
@Arperum He could write a python script to generate the next book.
@Adnan spoiler: It will be exactly the same as today.
@AviD Oh, I can assure you it's not.
Most likely, @Lighty and @Kalina won't be here anymore
09:11
@TerryChia or PHP, if you really want to have a surprise ending.
@AviD Chat today is a lot different than when I first joined.
PHP, because valhar morgulis.
4
and @FEichinger would be starting his 20s. I really wanna see that development
@AviD PHP should adopt that as their official motto.
You, @AviD, will still be here, same creepy old man
09:12
@Adnan just a little bit older...
Probably @Lucas would be dead
Oh! I am officially too old.
I received the call yesterday.
@Adnan, i prolly won't be, i'm sure of that ;3
@AviD Congrats!
from my army unit... They are sending me to the higher unit, temporarily until I get let go.
So being phased out...
09:14
@AviD Kinda figured so
@Adnan I probably wouldn't be here anymore either, though.
@AviD Well, it's happy news. No more refreshment drills, right?
@Adnan absolutely!
they "reserve" the right to call me in emergency, but no drills, and no non-emergency activities.
You're never too old, build a pillow fort and go play pokemon in it
@AviD Well, then let's hope ISIS don't start becoming active in the south
09:16
@Adnan isnt ISIS an egyptian goddess?
@Adnan I softened it with something that is in a pink bottle. :D
i read alot about that ISIS bit... what a mess
oh and secret spy group on Archer.
@AviD yes but not in this context
@AviD They're the dudes whom Al Qaeda renounced for being too brutal.
09:17
Ah.
they're the dudes who're making America look like chumps
im suprised goold 'ol murica didnt give em fake democracy yet, but then again, there's no oil to gain, so they won't bother
I would go and join them but they're also the same people who claim religion requires their women to be covered from head to toe and forgo all of their human rights
@AviD Yesterday I spent a few hours watching videos on them. Maaaan..
Their videos are almost all shot with GoPros
and with some toy-drone cameras
@Lighty yes, it's funny how America pulled out of Iraq, a war is starting, and they're sat back going "HMMM, NO WE NO GIVE NO MILITARY SUPPORT"
09:19
ikr @kalina?
Never seen anything like that.
From the videos, they seemed to have very solid intel work
the media portrraits them as basi terrorist, you know, the media view of hobo's in caves with half functioning pistols
those dudes there have fucking tanks, and US hardware, and there are rumors they even obtained 2 planes...
that classifies as a terrorist army
you say "US hardware" like they're packing laser rifles
i meant guns that are 'better', as in, they dont gobble up dirt every 5 shots
but also deserted humvees and such
forget all that middle east crap, I got some next gen US hardware right here
09:22
@kalina They are using nightvision and rifles with invisible laser
The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department.
@Lighty Interested in the matter and not sensitive to gore?
That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger.
That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.
You got that?
@adnan, waddaya mean?
@Lighty Never mind.
I forgot you're 17
09:25
oh, a news article (dutch) popped on the news, the the US is sending military support to defend against ISIS
im speshul @Adnan
@Lighty That he could post a link to some video/pictures that would like to seriously gory stuff.
@Arperum Not exactly. Mostly GoPro combat stuff
ohh, right
no problem i guess, im not sensitive to gore at all
@Lighty uh, no, the other way around - a handful of sand or dirt will turn a standard issue M-16 into a glorified tent spike. Kalashnikovs, on the hand, and Galil-based weapons, can soak in a river for a week, be cased in mud, and run over by a truck, and still shoot straight.
American weapons are like plastic toys compared to those.
@AviD I completely disagree.
09:32
@AviD Isn't the Galil based on the AK47 or AK74?
Of course, I would rather lug around a plastic toy then a 4.5 Kg piece of metal that I dont shoot well either way.
@LucasKauffman similar design, yes.
then why do those muricans always brag about them being the msot technological advanced army and such (wel all know the most advanced airforce is britain, navy the netherlands, and ground forces keorea or japan if i were correct)
@Lighty Because they are only comparing to Canada?
@AviD Actually, most of those fuckers have M16
@AviD Hey, don't diss plastic guns. They will come in handy when the Americans need to deal with Magneto. #fuckthatmovie
2
09:33
@AviD You do realize that about 70% of the American small arms (pistols, rifles, PDW,...) are built and/or designed by Belgium :p?
@Lighty You're talking about the US. Why on Earth are you surprised about their over-inflated ego?
@LucasKauffman he said "american weapons". I assumed he was talking mostly about M16s.
The P90 is also partially plastic, yet I think I know what I prefer if I have to pick between the P90 and the Uzi
im not, im just facepalming they try to bosot their ego over bullcrap xD
well, then again...well, nevermind
theyre crap anyway
@AviD the FN SCAR is also a lot of plastic :p
09:35
screw them, im going to grab some tea
so is the F2000
@LucasKauffman You've shot a P90?
@Lighty actually when it comes to pure technological weaponry, Israel is up there... Air force, tanks, etc.
@Lighty You need to type slower and correct for spelling and grammar..
@Adnan I wish, the irony is that everything we produce in weapons is considered illegal
09:35
@LucasKauffman you're talking handguns. I'm talking about assault rifles.
@LucasKauffman :(
@AviD FN SCAR is a rifle :p
@AviD What the shit?! AR-15-based rifles are really good!
@Adnan so what part did you disagree with?
shoots @AviD with a nerf gun
09:36
@Adnan indeed, but I agree with Avid that the AK47's design is more reliable when you don't clean your weapon
@AviD The part where you say that little sand make them inoperable
@Adnan didnt say it wasnt.
and I would much prefer that then a Galil.
BUT one of the tradeoffs, is that it simply wont work if left to the elements without proper care.
then again, I dont like guns anyway....
Galil is nice though, in a time where the best weapons were the AK47, FN FAL and M16 it really was a prettty innovation
@AviD what soldier doesn't clean his weapon?
If all you do is play in the sand and swim with your weapon then shoot combatants 10m away from you, then yeah, AK is quite good.
@AviD good point, I remember someone doing that with a site once pasted a link onto a forum that auto-logged the person in! down to expectations of security in a URL again...
09:40
@Adnan that's why they made a 5.56 version of the Galil
@AviD yeah believe that one when I see it :) Lots of people talking about stuff, interesting to see who translates that to action ...
@LucasKauffman That I didn't know
@AviD It was a long weekend. I'd had many many mojitos. I was still in backstage mode...
@RoryAlsop drunk?
@LucasKauffman ahem
09:43
@Adnan is the M16 more accurate than the AK47, given you are firing in a single shot mode? The bullet is probably heavier, but so will the recoil be
@TerryChia depends on the whisky. Some need to be slightly warmed, as @AviD says. Some need a splash of water to release flavours. Some need ice.
@Adnan yknow all those training montages, where the soldiers have to wade through a river with their gun over their head? Yeah if it was a galil noone would bother.
@RоryMcCune exactly that. Expecations are important.
@LucasKauffman Oh absolutely. I shot both of them long-range with nice scopes. Couldn't get lower than 2.5 MOA with the AK. With an AR-15, I easily got down to 1 MOA (required some mods, though).
@LucasKauffman not version, all Galils are 5.56. Same bullets as M16.
@RoryAlsop @AviD so question, how d'ya know which ones taste better with water/ice and which ones just taste watered down...?
09:46
@Adnan yeah, Galil is comparable accuracy with M16 - even slightly better for a trained soldier, but then you have to account for it being much heavier, and hard to hold up on target for a long time.
@AviD nope, there are two versions, an older version still used the 7.62
@Adnan Beers? ;-)
@AviD :D
The Galil is a family of Israeli small arms designed by Yisrael Galil and Yaacov Lior in the late 1960s and produced by Israel Military Industries Ltd (now Israel Weapon Industries Ltd) of Ramat HaSharon. The rifle design borrowed heavily from the AK-47 and had a modified gas diversion system similar to the AK-47 to reduce the recoil of the rifle making it easier to fire especially in automatic mode. The weapon system consists of a line chambered for the intermediate 5.56×45mm NATO caliber with either the M193 or SS109 ball cartridge and several models designed for use with the 7.62x51m...
@LucasKauffman huh, I didnt know that.
09:50
Hmm.. I should try shooting this Galil
@RоryMcCune testing. Extensive testing
@RoryAlsop Sounds expensive and bad for my liver.
@TerryChia ... possibly :-)
@Adnan other than the weight, its not really that different from M16 (shaping is a bit different too). Does have more of a kickback though.
@TerryChia What do you need your liver for anyway?
09:51
@RoryAlsop right, that sounds like a line I can try with the missus :)
@TerryChia or delicious and fun.
@RоryMcCune hehe, I like that line.
@RоryMcCune It helps keep the whisky mystique :-)
I think I will use it as an opener next time I discuss pentesting....
@AviD They aren't mutually exclusive. It can be delicious, bad for my liver, fun and expensive at the same time.
@AviD shall we close it then?
09:53
@TerryChia like falling asleep in a Japanese prostitute's bedroom.
@TerryChia yay for multitasking
@AviD hahahahahaha
@AviD Speaking from experience?
@TerryChia hehe, not at all, just rumours and hollywood.
@AviD Is that the Israel version of "I have a friend..."?
@RoryAlsop actually I'm thinking that is a great answer to the generic question of image passwords. I think a rigorous rewrite can do wonders.
Dont have time right now, though, I will attempt my hand at it later if no one else gets there first.
@TerryChia hehehe
09:55
@AviD no change from normal then
except nobody ever gets there first
@kalina hehehe, you calling me lazy?
always with the hand
3
no that's a fair cop.
@kalina I'm leaving it open this time....
that's what... nevermind
3
the comments threads do also need to be cleaned up. or maybe just nuked.
09:56
did somebody say nuke?
did somebody say comments?
did somebody say somebody?
did somebody say also?
did somebody say @Simon? Oh wait, nobody says that.
2
@TerryChia False.
just most often it is followed by "NO".
