Morning all - I'm going to have no time to write this one up - far too busy at work I'm afraid. Any takers:

Q: Are common passwords at particular risk?

Ben BrockaThe question Should we disallow common passwords like “password” and “12345”? on User Experience immediately made me think that these common passwords were extremely dangerous not because they are weak but because they are common. Rather to my dismay the security side of the arument seems focus...

Q: Security Stack Exchange's Anniversary Competition

Rory AlsopJuly the 12th marks one year since we came out of beta: And we have had continuous growth ever since, steadily gaining new users and questions, and the odd peak where a particular incident or burst of activity has boosted the community. Our birthday is an excellent opportunity to generate anothe...

Q: Prizes/Swag for our anniversary competion?

Rory AlsopAs you will see from the associated question on what competition we should have to celebrate our anniversary, we will also need to think about prizes. The message from SEI is to think up the sort of things we would like - don't worry about cost at this stage. Once they have a better idea as to t...

So I've flashed 4 different roms on my phone over the past 2 weeks, and I think I finally found one that's usable and has good battery life.

Q: How can I set the priority of Wi-Fi networks on my iOS device?

Iszi Rory or IszntiI have two Wi-Fi networks in my house, one at one end of the house and one at the other. While signals from one side of the house are generally audible on the other side, they are generally fairly weak and quite nearly unusable - something in the house's construction attenuates signals traveling...

@IsziRoryorIsznti yes, but did we expect him to be a serial flasher?
actually, most of us did, yeah.

Any of you rories have first hand experience with any SANS courses?

@ScottPack I might know some who do... 'sup?

I was going to take the Securing Linux/Unix OnDemand course, but it's unavailable until November. So I narrowed myself down to 3 others and was trying decide between them.
Hoping to get an idea about how worthwhile the content is (with the understanding that individual skill level and background makes for significantly different experiences).

@ScottPack Does NIST control selection confuse you as much as it does me, sometimes? Example: CP-9, Enhancement 3 (requiring off-site backups for "critical information system software" and other things) is only applicable to High plans, while CP-06 (requiring off-site backups in general) also applies to Moderate. How does that make sense?

@IsziRoryorIsznti I would like to think there's a way for it to make sense, but I would have to spend some quality time with it
