Y'know what'd be kind of cool? (Someone please point me to this if it exists.) A USB dongle that allows a laptop's keyboard and touchpad (and/or touchstick and/or attached mouse/trackball) to control another system. Even better, bundle all KVM functions - send audio & video to the laptop's screen & speakers as well.
Would be nice so that I don't have to have a spare keyboard/mouse/monitor sitting around just for when I need to work on someone's desktop.

@Iszi It sounds like you're looking for a kvm...
I've used Synergy to share keyboard/mouse between systems when I didn't need to share the video
I've also used USB extension cables the same way. I just had 3 or 4 extensions sitting under the monitor and would switch the keyboard between them.
That one worked best when the keyboard had its own USB ports for plugging in the mouse.

@ScottPack No, a KVM requires an external keyboard/mouse/monitor. I want to use the equipment built into the laptop - ideally, including the monitor.
@AviD Is that Super User's April Fool's Easter egg or something?
19:35
@Iszi Ah, that's a bit more tricksome. In that case you may be up to using synergy, though that only does keyboard/mouse.
There are some all-in-one devices that give you a video input, but I don't know of any laptops

Hey I was wondering if someone could explain or give me pointers to a lp2t/ipsec thing I'm trying to do with android.
Basically, I've configured a linux host to run with openVPN, I've generated a p12 key, installed the file on an android tablet.
However, I can't seem to connect correctly. On my android device I've attempted to add a l2tp/ipsec CRT for certificate based vpn, I've set up the l2tp secret as per the cert, user certificate and certificate authority.
I have no idea how to debug this or trouble shoot. Android just says "failed." Any pointers on where I can start looking would be appreciated.
@Incognito You might want to try over at Super User for troubleshooting tips, but someone here may still have an answer as well.
That's a good idea, thanks :).
20:45
@Iszi no, it was on Stack Overflow

evenin all
that's me back online - have been in Paris all weekend
@AviD - met some of your countrymen - Doron Ronen being one
@ScottPack made some very minor spelling updates, but I like it. Must have been some serious swearing while you were trying to diagnose though.
One possible further piece folks might find useful - could you do a snippet (sanitised) of what the chain cert file looks like (I don't think I have ever seen one, for example)
21:54
@RoryAlsop cant say I know him.
though that's probably surprising, seeing as there's only 16 of us ;)
well, I guess there's a few folks in security over your way :-)
hahahahaha
@RoryAlsop actually heard that Israel has some of the highest percantages of high-tech people, and more - amongst high-tech, some of the highest percentages of security folk
so it should be pretty dense here.
yep, I think that was evidenced somewhere
but, its still a pretty small place...
where's that Doron fellow from?
Tel Aviv - President of ISACA chapter there
21:56
since I dont know him, i figure its highly likely that I know some of his co-workers...
cant find him on linkedin...
@RoryAlsop interesting, isaca is relatively low profile locally
but sounds like gaining profile within government, yes?
on risk, controls and governance
@RoryAlsop yeah, starting to.
but then, security in general is still not where it should be.
in gov't, i mean.
big difference between defense orgs, and the rest, though
22:28
@AviD Just popped up here, too.
@RoryAlsop That's rather embarrassing. Punctuation I'm still trying to figure out, but I had rather hoped to be beyond spelling at this point. I'm trying to come up with a reason to need to sanitize the chain cert file at all. What with the certificates being public and all.
22:53
@ScottPack Love your Kodak link.
23:08
Sweet. Hail
Sounds really scary what with a metal basement bulkhead door right beside me.
23:36
@ScottPack I'd expect it's scary at onset, but extremely annoying as it persists.
Didn't last long, just a few minutes. Was about .25" big. Not huge, but a reasonable size.
3
@ScottPack Reasonable size? That's not even pea-sized. Hardly worth mentioning.
.5cm is considered the standard size for peas, which is definitely smaller than what we had tonight.
We don't tend to get such weather up here. A hurricane would also warrant comment :)
Just saw this
