Q: Is it possible to secure a web app without HTTPS?

Konrad GarusThink of a typical web application where the users log in, and then the session is kept with a session key. Is it possible to protect it from all kinds of sniffing-based attacks without HTTPS or its equivalent? Let's say I'm not worried about data transfer, only password or session theft.

Yup. It is.

Q: Can you secure a web app from FireSheep without using SSL?

FalkaynAssume that you want to give some web users privileged access to your website, but that you are unable (or unwilling) to offer SSL to all of them - at least past the initial login page. In this instance, is there some way to manage the user session that will negate FireSheep, but not create a pa...

Q: Will using unicode chars in my password increase security?

iTaybBruteforce tries cracking the hash with every possible combination of letters. Then, If I'll use an special Unicode char, as ♥ or ¿, will it increase my security? I'm talking about NTLM passwords.

Morning gents

@nealmcb A question with a comment thread like that should be shut down.

3:16 PM
@Iszi My goal in pursuing that was to figure out if I was missing anything in the answer, and I think I know now that I wasn't. What do you mean by "shut down", and shouldn't the answer be addressed rather than the question?

Generally, comment threads that long (TL;DR, FTR) are indicative of a question that's more likely to generate discussion than real answers.

Or a question that is in serious need of reformulating

I don't suppose any of you guys have any experience with blackboard logs?

@Iszi In this case it seems to be someone finally seen to be pushing for an alternate off-topic approach, and a willing discussant (me).
And the advice from the system (take it to chat) is probably the best....

@nealmcb Sorry. Like I said, TL;DR.

@Iszi FTR IICFPWDR

@nealmcb Okay... I'll bite... WTF is IICFPWDR?

I Ignore Commentary From People Who Didn't Read..... ;)
