@Dɑvïd or anybody: do you know of a list of errata in BHS (i.e. misrepresentations of L)? I'm sure it's not that common, but we did this, I've run across at least one other in the interim, and then just now Esau's name in Gen 32:18 (with a shin), also correct in L (close up).

I always feel a need to chase these, but seems likely that somebody somewhere has already compiled them, which would spare me the exercise of hopscotching through archive.org's L.

Oh weird, that one's correct in my Accordance BHS, which I thought came (I assume in digital format) directly from DBG. Is there more than one edition of BHS?

@Susan The text of "BHS" in Accordance, BibleWorks, and Logos (as I understand it), is the WLC, not DBG's BHS -- and both are transcriptions of the Leningrad Codex (I know you know that). I believe there might be a list of errata in B19a in one of Tov's things, but am on a train at the minute. :)

There is, however, the list of "Supplements" to WLC, one of which, the "U" (unexpected readings) set, is probably close to an errata list.

That's not the classification for the oddity of Gen 32:18, however, which is a "#1" - "BHS has been faithful to the Leningrad Codex where there might be a question of the validity of the form and we keep the same form as BHS."

But will need to have a closer look/deeper think when I get home.

But none of that has to do with a mistaken "Eshau" for "Esau", I now see (which is correct in WLC). There were five editions of BHS, though, and the first edition was notorious for having rather more mistakes in it than BHK -- presumably over the five editions (the latest confusingly "editio quinta", which does not make it "BHQ!!) these errors have been eradicated.

You'll notice, too, that a few of those sigla from the WLC "supplement" list are specifically about typos in BHS.

@Dɑvïd Oh yeah, forgot about WLC. It's weird to me that they can call it "BHS" if it's actually a different transcription of L with the apparatus of BHS superimposed, but I guess that must be right. My Accordance attribution even says "hg. v. Elliger und Wilhelm Rudolph, fünfte, verbesserte Auflage, hg. v. Adrian Schenker" -- all of which is in Latin in the printed one. (Since approximately 2% of the world's population speaks either German or Latin, this is all immensely practical.)

@Dɑvïd I'm not following this. BHS is faithful to L there? L (and WLC) have the "expected" form. BHS doesn't. No?

@Dɑvïd Oh! We can see only the numbers/letters in our WLC app. But I think is possible to show a message with the note (in the same way as the Bookmark button).
