@Duga Look at all those closed issues!
@Mat'sMug Before I start localizing the Source Control, I want to ask you a question.
There are two things I can do:
1) Create an initialization method and set all the text.
2) Go into the Designer file and change all the text initialization to pull from RubberduckUI.
I've done both before, without any harm, except the second way feels a LOT cleaner.
Supper now.

12:21 AM
End Supper.

@Hosch250 designer code should not be modified by hand

OK, is there any way to get the designer code to read from Rubberduck.UI by hand?

Yeah, VS may eat your changes if it decides to regenerate the UI.

OK.

But I do edit it by hand sometimes. But that is pretty much limited to removing code, not adding it.

12:26 AM
I edit it by hand all the time, but I guess I'd better stop :(
Not nearly so much since Mat told me about the Properties tab.

yeah, go with the properties tab firstly.
You might find this useful: stackoverflow.com/a/14500428/2301065

Yep, I tried that.
But Mat wants to have one centralized resx, I think.

ok, I have never actually implemented a localizable app myself.
do the resx files get embedded?

Embedded?
They are part of the solution.

i.e. is he worried about proliferating resx files in binary form or source?
binary = compiled/shipped form.

12:32 AM
I think he just wants to have it simple to maintain the other languages.

I suppose so.

@Mat'sMug Any particular reason for wanting a centralized resx file?

I did read that you could have a centralised one that contains the commonly used phrases like 'ok' 'cancel' 'save' ...

Yes, you can.
I'll set localizable and see if you can't set the resx to read from.

but from what I skimmed over, you potentially need to alter the size of controls in different languages.

12:33 AM
That would be easy enough...
Yeah, you might.
So far, we haven't.

12:47 AM
@Rossco that's THE main reason to redo all UIs in WPF!
@Hosch250 because it makes 1 place to go make changes to?

Awesome that you've discovered a way to use WPF

@Mat'sMug I thought so, just wondering if it was anything else.

@Rossco haven't tested WPF interop with the docked conrols yet though
But my gut feeling is good about it

It will mean a bit of a change in the presenters.
a good change.
MVVM is way better than MVP

Yes!
Just for the freakin data binding power...

12:51 AM
yeah, you will be able to databind to a treeview.
that is awesome.

So much code will just... vaporize..

@Mat'sMug If/when you have time, can you look over how I refactored the reorder params?
I don't want to cut over and debug until I know it is a good design.

If you're following the IRefactoring contract, it should be good ;-)

I am, but I just want to know.
It's like the fourth time I've refactored the bloody thing.

12:56 AM
Sure I'll take a look. Grinding coffee beans...
Brewing
Booting
@Hosch250 guess what? When the UI goes WPF, there will be a 5th!

@Mat'sMug Boo :)

Fact: software changes.

I like WPF, and the way the view is completely separated from the logic, how bad can it be?
But, don't start that until we release 1.4, will you?

Not even sure it's for 2.0
Although it probably will ;-)

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit 44137a34 to next: Partial source control localization. @Rubberduck needs to pull this so he doesn't have merge conflictions.

1:06 AM
Those do ping, don't they?

IDK.. but it might be better to use his/our GitHub aliases ;)
conflictions?
Damn I like the smell of fresh coffee

Lol.
What's the word Github uses again?

> know what I mean, sugar and cream
@Hosch250 uh, merge conflicts?

OK.

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit 8b06b47a to next: More localizations, almost done, and dishes time. Remember to pull, @Rubberduck @ckuhn203

@Hosch250 there's a possible NRE here:
            _model = presenter.Show();
            if (!_model.Parameters.Where((param, index) => param.Index != index).Any() || !IsValidParamOrder())
            {
                return;
            }

@Mat'sMug Yes? How?

presenter.Show() can return null

Oh, OK.

            if (_view.ShowDialog() != DialogResult.OK)
            {
                return null;
            }

2:08 AM
Whoops.

if you cancel the dialog, it blows up

I have not tested any of it yet.
The refactoring is still running off the old version.
But thanks.

ok
but it looks good

Thanks, will finish later/tomorrow.

what do you think of the idea of the factory injecting the presenter with the current selection? is that too convoluted?
I think you can inject an IActiveCodePaneEditor instead of a VBE there
    public ReorderParametersPresenterFactory(VBE vbe, IReorderParametersDialog view,
        VBProjectParseResult parseResult)

2:11 AM
I don't know.

you're only using it to get the current selection:
        var selection = _vbe.ActiveCodePane.GetSelection();

No, it wouldn't seem too bad.
Yes, I know.
BTW, did you get my ping about the re-written generic declaration finder?

nope
as long as it works and doesn't break the existing code that's using it ;-)

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit 5b001472 to next: More localizations @Rubberduck @ckuhn

I didn't touch your version.
I just rewrote mine.
Yours doesn't work for my purposes because it relies on the qualifiedmodulename, which isn't always of a valid type.

2:15 AM
k

Also, you have to check all the references and declarations before you return to get the one in the tightest scope, not declarations first, then references.
Because it would return Sub A that contains a reference to Sub B, when your cursor is in the reference to Sub B.

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] retailcoder pushed commit b6b4d5eb to next: fixed NRE in ReorderParametersRefactoring, swapped VBE for IActiveCodePaneEditor in presenter factory constructor; factory now returns null if there's no active selection (IRefactoring

Thanks.
You know, we currently have three versions of OK: "OK", Ok", and "Okay"

oh nice, I switch to Swedish and I get a CultureNotFoundException

I think we need to go down to one.
What?!
Oh, it doesn't have a designer file, which may be the problem.

2:21 AM
huh?

We use three versions of OK in RD.
I think there should only be one, but it has to be a two-letter version because some of the buttons are kind of small for the four-letter version.

one is for the [Ok] button, the all-caps is the "OK" inspection status, ..what's the other?
"Okay" should be the [Ok] button

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit fb730409 to next: More localizations, @Rubberduck, @ckuhn2013 z-strings need to be translated, @Simon @zomis @Mat @retailcoder

Okay is only on one - in source control.
Just pushed, you can take a look.
I really need to get washing.

2:25 AM
ok

I didn't test the dynamic changes.
But, it is done enough to close that, I think.
Anything will be caught when we test source control.

uh, is your code explorer displaying anything?

Lots.
BBL.

hmm
I can't run the unit tests... dang, wtf happened?!

@Duga I bet that's the Japanese version coming up

4:01 AM
@Harish Your answer was removed for a couple reasons. First, you did not provide a review, and second, you said "Please provide your feedback on my updated code." A self-answer would have perfectly acceptable if you provided it in the form of a review, specifying how your new code was better than your old code; however, you just posted your new code with a comment that it is your updated code. Also, we do not write reviews on answers, but on questions. Because there were no answers to this question, rolfl posted your new code to your question, instead of directing you to post another question. — Hosch250 1 min ago
Exactly the comment character limit.
Never had that before.
@Mat'sMug Any issues?

can you run a unit test?
all I get is "automation error"

I can, well, try.
Run it in debug mode?
It wasn't working last I tried.
Also, I am getting an error when I try to compile the thing.
> Error 10 The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTestin‌g.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\" exited with code 4.
Sorry for spelling your name wrong, if I change it, I need to run the TLB again, and I'm too lazy.

well, we have a bit of a problem.

It says it can't run a macro.
(Is "macra" the feminine form of "macro"?)

exactly
no idea

4:12 AM

4:23 AM
damn, it was working yesterday

It hasn't been working for me since you had me enable that Rubberduck library thing.

rubberduck-vba.com home page redesign completed (will publish the updated site with 1.4)

Cool, can I have a preview?

@Hosch250 what library thing?

Rubberduck Unit Tests 1.0.

4:27 AM
@Hosch250 nah, that worked yesterday here

I have always had the problem here...

4:45 AM
I think I know why it's not working. ......but then I can't explain why it was working yesterday
the .tlb can't be x-copied to the rubberduck bin folder, it has to be registered/generated from the local copy, post-build.
ugh. not working.
we're not getting the same error though
> Test raised an error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A9C68

5:37 AM
oh crap
unit tests run - it's the AssertClass that's not working.
yesterday I had no asserts, just Debug.Print calls.
I can't get it to work.
tired.
need
sleep
'night

> Unit testing "works", in the sense that modules and methods can be added, and executed.

The problem is that the `AssertClass` throws an exception whenever VBA code uses it - it *looks* like a registration issue, but everything I've tried so far didn't get it to work.

We may have to fold `Rubberduck.UnitTesting` back into the main dll.

Monking duckies

@RubberDuck whenever you're around, do you know a way in Access to get around CStr(foo) for a value that can be null?
@JeroenVannevel

no hate
only love

@JeroenVannevel FLAGGING AS SPAM!!! LOL
@Phrancis in what context?
In a query, or in VBA?

SELECT DISTINCT
  dp.DPStream
, sku.SkuNumber
, sku.Category
, CStr(prod.ProductId)
, CStr(prod.WINProductId)
, prod.WINDescription
FROM (StreamSKUs AS dp INNER JOIN SKUs AS sku ON dp.SkuNumber=sku.SkuNumber) LEFT JOIN CategoryProducts AS prod ON prod.Category=sku.Category
ORDER BY sku.SkuNumber;
^^

2:20 PM
@Duga critical is right. Can't believe I missed that.
@Mat'sMug I'll try to take a look at that this afternoon.

@RubberDuck Can you use Nz() in a query? (also, who came up with such a bad name?)

Yes. It's specifically for queries. In VBA you would use Iff(IsNull(foo), truevalue, falsevalue)

Hmm, do I have the order wrong, or...?
Ah, yes I did have the order wrong. Thanks @RubberDuck :)

Np!

WTF does Nz stand for, anyways?

2:36 PM
Not a frakkin clue.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised; it's Access, after all.

It's nice to have actual work to do again.
It's been an unbearable two weeks.

@RubberDuck easy, could be just my build - I could have sworn Assert worked with just copying the tlb... but now that I think of it, it might not have... ugh. I don't know anymore!

We need to get the next version stable soon.

@JeroenVannevel ah, no wonder you need a stockpile ;-)

btw we hit the 60 followers bar on Twitter

Nice.

I'm thinking to "rotate" the 3 items regularly
and it looks great on mobile (better than the current one at least)
...at least per the WebSiteBuilder previews
don't mind the nav bar. yes, it's staying on top... but I haven't redone the other pages yet
@RubberDuck there's probably much higher priorities, but shouldn't the SC grids have a "fill" column?

@Mat'sMug huh?
Pic?

oh and I dragged a file from "untracked" to "included" and its status remained "untracked" and IIRC it blew up when I committed
@RubberDuck 3rd image from the left

2:50 PM
I like it.
Yeah. You're right.
I thought I had it that way.
Ugh
Devil's in the details

^^
I expected the status to go from "untracked" to "added" when I dragged it from "untracked" to "included". that's probably why it blew up

Q: VBA) Time efficiency - Taking too long

BLkrnI have this Excel/VBA code and here is what it does 1. I have 3 sheets, where first sheet has two columns that will be used (A,C) 2. 2nd Sheet is just the raw data file that will be imported from external source 3. 3rd sheet is the final output. 4. Column A in the first sheet is "Raw Column Headi...

@Mat'sMug hmm...... interesting point. As it is, it's just taking the status from the current repository state.
@StackExchange needs a title and link back to the original question...

Hmm. Old pricing is gone as of today. New pricing... nowhere to be found. Oh, and our website is broken too.

3:11 PM
@StackExchange our 1.3.0.1 parser doesn't handle this line:
            wsImport.Range(source.Offset(1), wsImport.Cells(Rows.Count, source.Column).End(xlUp)).Copy _
                wsMain.Cells(Rows.Count, dest.Column).End(xlUp)(2)
I think it's the (2)
ugh Excel just crashed
yup. confirmed, it's the (2) at the end

As it does... XD

@Phrancis yeah... but I'd like it not to be because of my code ;-)
this parses:
            Dim target As Range
            Set target = wsMain.Cells(Rows.Count, dest.Column).End(xlUp)

            wsImport.Range(source.Offset(1), wsImport.Cells(Rows.Count, source.Column).End(xlUp)).Copy target(2)

It might help if you explained why VBA or managed code isn't appropriate. — RubberDuck 9 secs ago
Seriously people. Don't give arbitrary requirements without justifying them.

3:42 PM
Oh! But they are important! Otherwise, how do we know that you don't have an XY problem?? Anyway, .Net doesn't need the "Trust Access to VB Project..." stuff, so it's possible that accessing it via COM Interop with C++ would work just as well. Worth a shot maybe. — RubberDuck 16 secs ago

What's a worksheet-local function?
or does he mean workbook-local?

4:02 PM
0
A: Local (worksheet-specific) functions without using VBA or VSTO

Mat's MugWorksheet != Workbook I don't know of any way to create worksheet-local functions. In VBA to expose functions you need a standard module (.bas) without the Option Private Module option set, exposing a Public Function - that function is usable in every worksheet of the workbook that's containing...

Talking about source control, it bombs when you click Merge and are offline, or something like that.
An NRE.

@RubberDuck I reviewed the style aspects, leaving performance to someone else - I suspect the .Find calls are the pain point

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit 9b2a3412 to next: Cut over to refactored reorder params

Think this is ready to be closed? github.com/retailcoder/Rubberduck/issues/537

> Completed, will roll out with 1.4.

4:16 PM
Candidate for closure ^^?

> I would like to see this happen in the reorder parameters and remove parameters refactorings too.

@Hosch250 lol, only the home page was rebuilt!

Oh.

Damnit. If it's not one thing, it's another. Requiring the user to open the VBA is probably a showstopper. — Michael Gunter 41 secs ago

4:48 PM
@Mat'sMug copy could also be potentially painful.
Hard to say if that's faster or slower than looping through the columns without testing.
@Mat'sMug that guy needs to bite the bullet and use VSTO or VBA. He can't do what he wants to do.

I don't even know what he wants to do.
like, why do you need to create functions in other workbooks?
such problem. much x-y.

Oh! But they are important! Otherwise, how do we know that you don't have an XY problem?? Anyway, .Net doesn't need the "Trust Access to VB Project..." stuff, so it's possible that accessing it via COM Interop with C++ would work just as well. Worth a shot maybe. — RubberDuck 1 hour ago
Maybe a silly question, but why would you need to dynamically create the function to begin with? Why can't you just embed the function before distributing the workbook? — RubberDuck 9 secs ago

5:07 PM
^^ that

and this maybe?
You mean like this? Michael, I'm afraid that VSTO is the way to go here, whatever your internal policies about loading .Net are, it's the sensible solution and the right technology for the job. Good luck mate. — RubberDuck 4 mins ago

> Good luck mate.
yup
as in "reinventing the VSTO wheel with C++"
I tried to have an "If" loop, how do I made this a loop?I have learned VBA in the last couple days, I'm still a beginner. — Thomas Shera 2 mins ago

SharePoint is a server...

There is a SharePoint app too.
Probably for managing the server.
At least, the Office webpage says there is.

at one point there was FrontPage, too

There have been several discontinued, if you go to Wiki.
