If I buy A to B to C and then don't take B to C, the airline isn't out anything because the alternative is that I take B to C, not that I pay a premium for A to B. If the hardware store has some special on a drill/battery combo that is cheaper than the normal price of the drill alone, would you say I'm somehow cheating them if I just throw away the battery?
