A: Eforms on Mac OS X

Alan MunnFirst of all, using the MacTeX distribution of TeX Live, you should set any paths in your editor to point to /usr/texbin, not to the particular folder for the distribution. This is so that subsequent updates will not require you to reset these paths. /usr/texbin will always point to the binarie...

Thanks for the extended answer, I appreciate it. I did exactly as you told me to do but my texclipse still cannot locate eforms.sty. How can I tell texclipse to look into the Library folder?

What is the result of kpsewhich eforms.sty from a new terminal window? It should return /Users/<yourusername>/Library/texmf/tex/latex/acrotex/eforms.sty Does it?

It doesn't return anything actually. Hmmmm so where is the problem you reckon?

That clearly means that you've not quite done everything right. Just to be sure, what does kpsewhich article.cls return? It should return /usr/local/texlive/2011/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/article.cls. If that works, try touch ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/foo.sty and then kpsewhich foo.sty. (This is just for testing.)

When I execute kpswewhich article.cls I get like yourself this /usr/local/texlive/2011/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/article.cls. However when i try kpswewhich foo.sty I get nothing once again.

@Dimitris I've created a chat-room so that we can get to the bottom of this in real time. If you click on chat join the room TeX Troubleshooting.
@Dimitris Did you type touch ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/foo.sty before doing the kpsewhich command?

Hi Alan
thanks for this

Not a problem.

I tried again all your steps and this time when I execute kpsewhich eforms.sty I get ./eforms.sty

Good. That seems right. Just to check, type
cd
and then type
kpsewhich eforms.sty
(Unfortunately you can't cut and paste from chat)

damn it :) now it doesn't seem to work
again comes back with nothing

11:47 PM
Weird. Ok. Try cd ~/Library/texmf

ok

now type ls

I can see tex

you should get (at least) tex and doc
ok, that's good. type mkdir -p doc

ok done

11:49 PM
now try cd tex/latex
then ls again. You should get acrotex

ok now I can see acrotex

good, now cd acrotex and then ls *.sty

done. I get these results: dljslib.sty eforms.sty exerquiz.sty insdljs.sty taborder.sty web.sty

That's exactly right. Just to be sure, can you now type pwd

/Users/dimitris/Library/texmf/tex/latex/acrotex
only thing I am missing is doc
everything under acrotex is there

11:53 PM
Ok. So that's also right. Don't worry about the doc for the moment, it's not so important. This is quite puzzling. Just to be sure, did you install TeX Live using the MacTeX installer or some other way?

I had TexLive installed ages ago and can't tell you for sure which method I used. But yesterday I installed the new 2011 texlive using install-tl
So really I updated it and installed all the packages
is there a way that I can uninstall this and then try again with MacTex?
it might be that certain paths are mangled

Ah, that's the problem. Almost all Mac users use the one-click installer from here: tug.org/mactex/2011 rather than the install-tl.

Aaah I see
Can I do it again on top of everything? Or do I need to remove what I have?

Yes, that might be the fastest (even though I'm sure there's a way to fix things, if you have adequate bandwidth, installing the MacTeX would probably be easier.)

I dont mind about speed as long as I get the problem fixed
so you reckon I can install this on top

11:57 PM
You should be able to install on top. If you do that, everything that you've done so far with Acroread won't have to be redone (so that should just work.)

ok excellent
thanks for all your help. I will drop a message if that works
I ll see if I can give you maximum votes :)

Ok. I'll leave this room open. If you run into problems just add a message.

ok cool :). Thanks again
