Q: Guess a number between 1 and 16 with 7 attempts

YooNHow to guess a number between 1~16 in 7 attempts? The man who answer the question CAN either lies once or never. Can you make the proper 7 questions to guess what number between 1~16 will be, and when does the man lie?(or find out that there wasn't any lies?)

@shoover No! What better time than now to learn. :) Optional 0) read deus' guide. 1) make a double charade clue by looking around the page for a word you can split into two independent words (e.g. archive => arch + I've). 2) bust out the thesaurus and get synonyms for all the parts (e.g. accounts, crook, I have). 3) smoosh them together into a vaguely coherent sentence, ensuring the def stays at one end and you don't introduce any bad filler (e.g. Crook and I have accounts (7)).
4+) keep doing it, but start using more complex constructions (also note that I glossed over the fact that I kept switching out synonyms when I got to step 3 until I found something that would work in a sentence)

@msh210 I'm not sure the word "For" should be there, but this is PECCADILLO*
I'll point out that the word "police" is in there too, which is ... annoyingly distracting :)

two C's, though

oops typo

being POLICE-CLAD* (without permission) is probably a minor offense as well :P

@Rubio correct! "[Wordplay] for [definition]" is very common, so I figured "For [definition], [wordplay]" is the same thing and also okay. What do you (pl.) think?

9:17 AM
I think it's fine.

Q: Sliced sudoku: rearrange the tiles and then solve it

melfntRearrange the tiles without rotating nor flipping them to form a $9 \times 9$ sudoku. Then solve the sudoku according to the standard rules. Credits: the sudoku is one of the twelve schemas freely downloadable from websudoku.com for syndication. I made the tiling by myself.

@msh210 I was under the impression the rule that the definition be strictly at either end was inviolable. :) Obviously it's solvable enough, just not sure it's proper, but I'm no expert.

i think there was similar discussion regarding "[wp], [def] ensues" some time ago

Q: what's the name of this game?

ShlAround 15 years ago I remember playing on my computer with this game I loved. But it turns out I never knew its name and so, I can't find it anywhere now when I want to play it again. So, I'v had to create it myself. It wasn't that hard. But still I'd love to know how it's called. The rules a...

@GarethMcCaughan I was more bothered by “ensues” - the proper noun didn’t faze me
looks like the arguments that time were: gareth says allowed, rubio says not allowed, deusovi says not allowed in american cryptics but possibly in british ones
so it looks like consensus for the line being drawn at... the atlantic ocean?

At least I'm consistent? :)

@jafe heh. I'm an American immigrant to Israel and learned cryptics from U.S. publications. So I guess I shouldn't have used it. :-)
@Rubio con's piracy, &lit?

Q: Puzzle idea to develop an app as a birthday gift

user3405291I plan to develop a simple fun puzzle app and install it on my wife's phone to play with it, as her birthday gift. The puzzle should be very simple, as I don't have much extra time to spend on its development. Ideally, the app should consist of simple widgets like buttons, images, texts ... ...

Tom I may stick or be a stick, or am placed against a part of you with the same name, for perhaps hours. Looking back, I stick up, or am placed against a part of you with the same name, for only moments. Looking back, we appear stuck-up, but what am I?

@Avi We don't need a new close reason for "not related to puzzles". You can just VTC as off-topic and in the comment say "this is not related to puzzles".
