Xiaolongbao () is a type of Chinese steamed bun (baozi) from Jiangsu province, especially associated with Wuxi and Shanghai (Shanghai was formerly a part of Jiangsu province). In Shanghainese, they are known as siaulon moedeu or xiaolong-style mantous as Wu Chinese-speaking peoples use the traditional definition of "mantou", which refers to both filled and unfilled buns. It is traditionally prepared in xiaolong, which is a kind of small bamboo steaming basket, which give them their name. Xiaolongbao is often referred to as a kind of "dumpling", but should not be confused with British or American...

Modern genetics began with the work of the Augustinian friar Gregor Johann Mendel. His work on pea plants, published in 1866, established the theory of Mendelian inheritance. The year 1900 marked the "rediscovery of Mendel" by Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns and Erich von Tschermak, and by 1915 the basic principles of Mendelian genetics had been studied in a wide variety of organisms — most notably the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Led by Thomas Hunt Morgan and...

Q: Nurikolor (Level 1)

Player1456Welcome to my new puzzle: the NURIKOLOR, which is essentially the colored version of Nurikabe, but not exactly, with a few twists. The rules are simple: There are colored numbers on the grid, which indicate the number of tiles the group of its color holds. There are tiles with 1 "X", which ind...

Whadday'all think of a crossword clue having a small word in it that's the same as a small word in a multiword answer (light)? I'm thinking of, for example, "hero, for the nonce" for "MAN OF THE HOUR": both have "the". Words like "the", "of", "in", "for", etc. (Also, that example was non-cryptic, but my question applies to cryptic clues, too.)

Q: Is there a mistake in this vast rebus?

AnonThey say a picture is worth a thousand words. That may be a slight exaggeration in this case, but surely any deficit in the quantity of the words would be vastly outweighed were they to be infallible?
