Okay. I am trying to write down the piecewise function corresponding to the following graph...Let $r \in [0,1]$. From $0$ to $r$, I want to the function to be $y=x$; then a vertical line connecting $(r,r)$ to $(r,0)$; and then $0$ from $[r,1]$.
That middle portion is giving me trouble.
I don't know why it is giving me so much trouble...

@user193319 If the graph contains vertical line, then it is not a function. (If $r>0$, you have multiple outputs assigned to input $r$.)

If you changed it, for example, to a line from $(r,r)$ to $(r+\varepsilon,0)$ and then zero, then it would be a graph of a function.
 
Ah, so the middle portion is a line with negative slope.
 
Yes, the slove would be $-\frac1\varepsilon$.
