has had enough

@A.B. So, if you need someone to talk to about your concerns I'm open to having that discussion (not like immediately though as it's late here and I should be heading to bed soon). However, I wanted to make some things clear: nobody here thinks your evil, nobody here is trying to kick you out. We're happy to have you here.
You've butted against some community norms a couple of times and it seems, from my POV, like you may have not fully understood people's concerns (I'm not doubting your intelligence or anything here, listening to multiple people telling you things can be confusing). That can be remedied if you are willing to listen and take some time to understand what people are saying. But it is definitely nothing personal, I promise.

@Rubiksmoose leaving a message for you whenever you next pass through. I'm not sure how I can "listen and take some time to understand what people are saying" when @NautArch seemed to keep telling me to apologise and drop it straight away and not prolong things by asking questions or trying to explain.
I may have taken them more literally than they intended because I've encountered exactly that in other chatrooms before and any attempt to say anything further of any kind has been met by being kicked out without further ado!
Thanks very much for your offer, I'm now already talking to two mods in a separate room so wouldn't wish to take up any more people's time... you can weigh in if you want to though... :-D further discussion there if you wish.

6:44 AM
Very nice of you to say that.

7:23 AM
@Adeptus @AndrasDeak Did they manage to turn Maleficient into a villain? Because that is the direction I seem to get from the various trailers. And what I liked in the first movie is that in the end she in a way was the "good" character.
@Adeptus Leveling... jrpg had that from the beginning. And not just RPG games, even some action/platforming ones - think Battle of Olympus, Faxandu, Zelda 2 (all sort of "Fantasy Metroidvania" if you get what I mean) and so on.

@Derpy I don't think JRPGs predate D&D

@Carcer well, first D&D was .... 1974? Doubt you will even find many videogames in the first place in that year. Even Ultima started in 1980

Yeah, 1e AD&D was published late seventies, and I may have misunderstood your point

7:39 AM
No sorry, I was just checking - no real point there. D&D probably is the first game that introduced EXP and Leveling.
That said, I don't think that I would call an anime "D&D based" because it mentions leveling.
Mostly because that would probably end up in claiming that Dragonball Z is based on D&D because it has (power) levels :P

sure, though the original line was about D&D's "influence"

@Carcer I know, but you also have to take in account that the blog post was about Tolkien's Orcs influence on D&D and other medias, so I expected that they would mention other works where you could see influence from D&D world building, not from game mechanics.

fair enough

In that regard, Rayearth is exactly what I would call "D&D" based... You can kinda see is mostly based on a Magical Girl anime scenario, with a plot that in the end due to a certain plot twist is clearly hinged on "romance elements" (trying to be pretty vague because spoilers).
In a way, you could say it is similar to Sailor Moon (which should be fairly more known)

8:49 AM
I have no idea regarding DnD's influence on codified power levels in gaming, but I agree, power levels in general predate DnD by ages. See belt colors in martial arts, or Dan levels in go, all that jazz.
The concept of troops gaining abilities through experience might have a precedent in strategy wargaming? No idea but I'd be interested to find out.

9:05 AM
@Derpy no spoilers ;)

@kviiri it seems like the kind of thing you'd imagine strategy wargames nerds who ran ongoing campaigns would want to consider doesn't it
veteran units and that

Aye, although I must stress that my knowledge of the history of strategy wargaming is incredibly vague at specific points :p
Many earlier wargames were much less simulationist than the later ones

9:26 AM
@kviiri since you've become my resident bird person: there's a viral new tune taking over white-throated sparrow songs in Canada

Wow
Also, Otter.

10:09 AM
Then there's also wargames with experience as a static unit modifier, which makes sense for reasonably short scenarios
Eg. you might have a few battle-hardened veteran units but no way to make other units veteran

@AndrasDeak wish they would just add Spoiler Markup to the chat.....

on chat.SO I only miss it during Advent of Code :)

Anyway, I am just worried this is another case of "Cerberous Retcon", either Type A) "characters are now incompetent, they accomplished nothing, meet new unrelated new characters" or Type B) Let's twist characters ethics/morale/personality in the most annoying way possible

10:26 AM
You should probably just watch it rather than work yourself up over multiple possible ways to do it wrong :)

10:37 AM
yep, that is an option.... but you know.... I would gladly avoid having to add one more movie to my personal "does not exist" list.
It's already pretty long with things like Indy Jones and the Flying Fridge, Aliens: Mass Produced Bioweapon, Batman&ThatGuyFromTeenTitans.....
Not as long as the "Videogames that I should avoid if I care about the franchise", but it's getting closer.

10:52 AM
@Derpy it's not that bad, just not that great either
there's additional mythology which is nice, although that also raises a few questions

2 hours later…
12:48 PM
@Derpy Kind of, for a while... but she redeems herself by the end

1:21 PM
@Derpy I think you mean "Cerebus", after the aardwark comic?

1:31 PM
I have only heard of it but I think its shift from being a light-hearted comic to a really serious grimdark graphic novel is somewhat well-known

2:00 PM
@kviiri Pig Latin.
(actually.... yep, you got me. Tried to make up an excuse)

2:23 PM
How aardwark
